Nov 19, 2006i was woundring how do u change the background picture in my documents and other folders i used to know how to do it on the old windows but the option isnt there in windows xp.

Whenever I try to change this to My Documents, it immediately reverts back to username's Documents.However, if I open a command window and say dir, I see My Documents which is what I would expect.

Aug 7, 2007I have lost all of my files within My Documents. All the folders remain, but all of the actual files are missing. No system changes have been made, nothing new was installed. I have run virus scans (I'm using SymantecAV Corporate) AdAware, Spybot S&D with nothing found.
They're still there somewhere, as the user folder properties show the correct size for the folder and number of documents, but not initially - right clicking on the folder to display properties shows a small number at first and then it gradually counts up. Properties for My Documents shows a small number of folders, all empty.

May 16, 2007For approximately the past two months my background is set to a solid color. Believe me I have searched everywhere and tried just about everything. I cannot change the picture, only the color that I set for icon backgrounds. That sounds kind of confusing but I don't know how else to word it. It does not change the desktop background. Background But No Desktop
Sep 16, 2007A friend has a Compaq laptop running Windows XP. When you power up the system, the Windows XP logo screen comes up and then the desktop background comes up but it stops there. You never get any desktop icons or taskbar so there is no way to navigate. If anyone has any suggestions on how to debug this it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Oct 18, 2004I'm using XP Home Edition, with all updates installed. For some reason, I can't change the background wallpaper on my screen. I right-click on the desktop, select Properties, then select the Desktop tab. There is only one wallpaper listed in the Background list, as well as the (None) option, which works. Unfortunately, I can only switch between (None) and my current wallpaper. Browse works, in that I can search my computer for other images. But when I select any of those images nothing happens. The current wallpaper remains in the preview screen, and the wallpaper I selected through browsing doesn't show up in the Background list. (I can Center, Stretch and Tile my current wallpaper.)
