I use xp pro with sp2 with ie7. Doesn't matter if I type in an address or click on a link it takes forever to get to the webpage then it takes forever to load in the webpage. I use AVG free and free Zone Alarm. I have tried spybot, ad-aware, scanning online at symatec. Oh I also have free avg anti-spyware. I am at a total loss. What could it be and what should I do?

Or it says done but the screen is white. Or after hours it loads but not completely. Or I get the message that ie cannot open the webpage. You just recently fixed a DNS hijacker with combofix. I have ran antivirus and antispyware and antimalware. The machine seems clean.

I have a Gateway, Windows XP laptop that's about 1 year old. A little over a week ago, it started "running slow". It's slow to start up (takes about 5-10 min), the mouse "sticks" sometimes although that is an intermittent problem, when I have multiple applications minimized (outlook express, firefox, My Documents, AIM), it's slow to toggle between them, and it's slow to open folders in My Documents.
On newly built system with a clean install of windows we are having trouble with my computer opening slowly. The box opens quickly but the drives take 20 seconds to show up. I have disabled windows image aquisition service and turned off Automatically search for network drives and folders. This computer is used to connect to three different hospitals websites with citrix and other web based portals. Is it possible that some of the active x controls that make it possible for the desktop to log in securely to the hospitals have caused this issue? If so how can I fix it without a reformat.
View 7 Replies View RelatedRecently my computer has been opening certain files that are double-clicked very very slowly--2 - 3 minutes, thats right minutes! If I open the file by launching the application then open the file via the Open menu item, all works as expected.I did some investigation and found that this happened to certain file types that were double-clicked from the desktop or from email attachments. This behavior happens from Excel, Word, Project, Access or Internet Explorer shortcuts that are in emails. PowerPoint, Infopath, Publisher and Visio all open normally (2-3 seconds).
Digging further showed that each of the file types that takes minutes to open all have something in the DDE Message field of the Entering Action for Type (File Explorer window, Tools, Folder Options, Select "Doc" file type, Select Advanced, Highlight Open, Select Edit). The file types that open normally don't have anything in this field. This is why I think the behavior is related to DDE.I have tried the "Detect and Repair" option of Office for my troubled apps but this does not have any effect on the problem. I have also tried using msconfig to do a Diagnostic Startup and it have no effect on the problem.
computer runs slow when i open programs, usually when i go to something in my 2nd hard dirve (d:) ran all the recommended spy and adware, but here the hijack log, i defragmented both of my drives and about to do a scan disk.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIntel Core 2 duo, E8500 3.16, 4 gb RAM. Running XP sp3 I am pretty sure that I am not lacking in power. However, I am REALLY SLOW, when opening folders, and going back and forth using the back and forth buttons in XP. I click, I get an hour glass for a seconds then it initiates. I have cleared out my Prefetch folder, changed a few registry settings, yada yada. I just cant figure it out. This is a fairly new install, just did a zero fill on my HD about a month ago.

View 8 Replies View Relatedhi, since today when i use explorer on my second partition it takes a few seconds to open root folders. hdd gets noisy, grinding for a while, explorer process reaches 90 ish % and then it opens a folder. i must add that all other folders open properly. the other issue accompanying it is jerky sound when playing audio or video files located even on another hdd. this is quite a fresh installation of win xp pro. no viruses detected, no bad sectors, defragmented, etc. this is a sata hdd, connecting it to another controler did not help as well. it seems to me like the problem could be physical rather than software. what do you think ?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a recent problem where my computer will spend anywhere from 5-10 seconds switching to a different window. It doesn't matter whether it is loaded or not. For instance, I'll have 2 MSN conversations open where I can see both at the same time, and no matter what I'm doing, it will take the same amount of time just to switch over to say "lol".
This is very annoying, because if an error comes up (in any program) that requires opening a new window, it will take 10 seconds to load, and then 10 seconds to respond to me clicking "ok". I am wasting so much time waiting, and it is becoming one of the most aggravating issues I've ever had.
This also applies to clicking on anything on the start bar at any time, minimizing, maximizing, or changing size to any window ever. It doesn't effect anything that happens within any programs itself that aren't window related.
I'm using XP and have 2 gb of RAM.

A few days ago, someone apparently hacked into my wife's Yahoo email account and sent out a bunch of bogus emails to people in her address book, including myself. The email contained a link. Since she sometimes sends me stuff to check out, I made the supreme mistake of clicking on it. It took me to some pharmaceutical site and I knew it was bogus and clicked out immediately. But the damage seems to have been done.

My comp is slow with programs (especially opening) and also on the internet. Aso, my processing light is always on, no flicker, just a solid light. I usually get frustrated and shut it down. View 10 Replies View RelatedOur family computer is running like a slug. It takes forever to startup and open programs and the hard drive activity light is always on. It also uses up a lot of RAM for some reason but the CPU usage is normal. I have another hard drive that is in a removable tray that I use, and that has all the same settings and everything, but that one is using a fraction of the RAM and runs pretty good!
View 9 Replies View RelatedAbout two days ago I can't seem to open the majority of webpages, everything just comes up as an error message, event the stuff in "Favorites". I have no clue why. I called the internet company and everything is OK. Some of the pages open and usually the same ones do, so it isn't a connection problem. the rest just say "Internet Explorer Can't Show the Page" or something to that effect.I've used Superantispyware, bitdefender, Nod32 and Spybot. Sounds like a configuration thing? Forgot to mention that after turning off windows firewall, some pages (like this one) came back, but most others didn't.

View 1 Replies View RelatedNeed some help figuring out why I have sound when I use RealPlayer, Media player or QuickTime but no sound if the audio/video is embedded in a webpage. My OS is Windows XP Home Edition 2002 with SP2. My modem is Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem and my audio components are RealTek AC'97 audio for VIA and Unimodem half Duplex audio device. I also have 2 external Labtec speakers. Windows diagnostics say everything is working O.K., and driver update gives me a message that the drivers that I already have are the best match. Interestingly when I check the Sounds & Audio devices in Control Panel, it says that I have no audio devices and buttons are greyed out. Also there is an update on the MS site for CMedia AC'97 device but when I download & install, I lose all sound. In multimedia preferences, play sound in webpages is on.
View 6 Replies View Relateda few days ago i had a major spyware problem. some of the nice people from this site helped me solve my problem, and i'm so grateful for that. but since then, i'm unable to get onto my homepage and some other websites (namely messageboards or other "interactive" sites) the sites are working for other people, so that's not the issue. i did something called "tuneup utilities 2004" on the request of someone here after i had cleared my computer of spyware, and i think that might have adjusted the settings for internet explorer. but i don't know what they were originally, and restoring them to default doesn't seem to work.do any of you have any idea as to what's causing this and how to fix it? like i said, most websites work, but some that worked before aren't working now.

My computer is free of viruses or spyware (Ad-aware, spybot, spyware doctor) but very few webpages such as this one, google and all associated pages, novell groupwise, baltimoreravens.com etc. I m connected through a 40-bit enabled security key to our wireless network at home and my roomate doesn't have trouble using his browsers.I can't connect to any MSN webpages, yahoo altavista and many many others.Having just rebooted much of what was left in the hard disk I doubt this is some software conflict.Most webpages just hang and return "The document contains no data". Finally, there "local area connection network cable unplugged" notification on my systray. But since I can post this I can connect online alright. What is going on, why are Firefox and IE very selctive with the pages they open ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWIN XP Sp2, IE 6 and also Firefox 1.5. For some reason all webpages fail to display any colour. It's as if the "Ignore colors specified on webpages" option in Accessibility in Internet options is checked. It isn't. Don't think it has anything to do with that option because I get the same issue with Firefox. I have removed all security software / pop up blocker software, cleared cache & cookies, restored IE defaults, and run scannow sfc to no effect. Am a little reluctant to roll back to a previous date but cannot think of any alternative solution.
