No Access To Microsoft Webpages

Cannot Access Windowsupdate.com Or Any Microsoft Websites
Apr 22, 2010On some of my pc`s I can not access Windowsupdate.com or any Microsoft websites. I thought it was a virus or spyware issue so I did a clean install of windows xp pro.
Once installed I setup up all my settings installed drivers, got onto the internet and i can go to any websites without a problem. But even with a clean install i cannot access any Microsoft websites.
So then i thought maybe it was a problem with my firewall blocking theses websites. I called my internet provider (Time Warner) who manage my firewall, and they claim the firewall is not blocking any of these websites. Which makes sense because i have serveral pc on the same network that can access these websites.

Feb 21, 2009I am using Microsoft XP with a dial up connection. I use Earthlink mail and any time I try to access mailbox i get this message. It appears that my driver is corrupted or otherwise unaccessable. I began having this problem after running Obits Advanced System Care. I have restored changes made by the program to no avail. Can someone tell me how to reinstall this ODBC driver or access it. I am able to access my email through web mail.

Apr 11, 2010I've a good internet connection via a dlink n. No problems with firefox V3.6.3 or IE v6 browsing save for Microsoft sites, which are installed on an older Toshiba laptop running xp and service pack 2.
Not that I needed any data from Windows or Microsoft, but I find it interesting that I cannot get any of their websites to come up.
I've just ressurected this laptop which I only used with an offline program that was work related. I thought I'd update via the windows update and found the IE/Firefox message Quote: Server not found Quote: Firefox can't find the server at www.microsoft.com. Same on IE.
Webpages Don't Show
Oct 10, 2007About two days ago I can't seem to open the majority of webpages, everything just comes up as an error message, event the stuff in "Favorites". I have no clue why. I called the internet company and everything is OK. Some of the pages open and usually the same ones do, so it isn't a connection problem. the rest just say "Internet Explorer Can't Show the Page" or something to that effect.I've used Superantispyware, bitdefender, Nod32 and Spybot. Sounds like a configuration thing? Forgot to mention that after turning off windows firewall, some pages (like this one) came back, but most others didn't.

Nov 9, 2005Need some help figuring out why I have sound when I use RealPlayer, Media player or QuickTime but no sound if the audio/video is embedded in a webpage. My OS is Windows XP Home Edition 2002 with SP2. My modem is Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem and my audio components are RealTek AC'97 audio for VIA and Unimodem half Duplex audio device. I also have 2 external Labtec speakers. Windows diagnostics say everything is working O.K., and driver update gives me a message that the drivers that I already have are the best match. Interestingly when I check the Sounds & Audio devices in Control Panel, it says that I have no audio devices and buttons are greyed out. Also there is an update on the MS site for CMedia AC'97 device but when I download & install, I lose all sound. In multimedia preferences, play sound in webpages is on.

Feb 21, 2005a few days ago i had a major spyware problem. some of the nice people from this site helped me solve my problem, and i'm so grateful for that. but since then, i'm unable to get onto my homepage and some other websites (namely messageboards or other "interactive" sites) the sites are working for other people, so that's not the issue. i did something called "tuneup utilities 2004" on the request of someone here after i had cleared my computer of spyware, and i think that might have adjusted the settings for internet explorer. but i don't know what they were originally, and restoring them to default doesn't seem to work.do any of you have any idea as to what's causing this and how to fix it? like i said, most websites work, but some that worked before aren't working now.

Aug 13, 2005I have recently gone through HP's repair function which wiped out almost everything but very few programs. My computer is free of viruses or spyware (Ad-aware, spybot, spyware doctor) but very few webpages such as this one, google and all associated pages, novell groupwise, baltimoreravens.com etc. I m connected through a 40-bit enabled security key to our wireless network at home and my roomate doesn't have trouble using his browsers.I can't connect to any MSN webpages, yahoo altavista and many many others.Having just rebooted much of what was left in the hard disk I doubt this is some software conflict.Most webpages just hang and return "The document contains no data". Finally, there "local area connection network cable unplugged" notification on my systray. But since I can post this I can connect online alright. What is going on, why are Firefox and IE very selctive with the pages they open ?

Mar 14, 2006WIN XP Sp2, IE 6 and also Firefox 1.5. For some reason all webpages fail to display any colour. It's as if the "Ignore colors specified on webpages" option in Accessibility in Internet options is checked. It isn't. Don't think it has anything to do with that option because I get the same issue with Firefox. I have removed all security software / pop up blocker software, cleared cache & cookies, restored IE defaults, and run scannow sfc to no effect. Am a little reluctant to roll back to a previous date but cannot think of any alternative solution.

Nov 13, 2007I use xp pro with sp2 with ie7. Doesn't matter if I type in an address or click on a link it takes forever to get to the webpage then it takes forever to load in the webpage. I use AVG free and free Zone Alarm. I have tried spybot, ad-aware, scanning online at symatec. Oh I also have free avg anti-spyware. I am at a total loss. What could it be and what should I do?

Well i only have one user, never had another user created until recently (temporary fix) is there anything i can do, the main user is called the owner, it says its the computer admin, but i guess there is still an admin user, i cant get to that. the only way i can get ms office to work was to create a new user, open all the office programs, export the office registry, and import it to my main user, thats the only thing that works, for a little bit.

Jul 29, 2009I brought her computer home to use for my school work. Someone signed into the Administrative / Owner name and somehow locked it. We don't have one of those password reset disk that the Windows website says. I have a disk that says "Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition System Recovery CD/DVD" I was told if I reinstalled Windows on the computer that it would erase the entire harddrive. There are alot of pictures on the computer, not to mention Microsoft Office, that I don't want to lose. My mom passed away suddenly and while I know her other passwords, this one is different which leads me to believe one of my younger cousins was messing with her computer and did something they didn't mean.Is there anyway possible to reset the password and use the computer without losing all the pictures on it?

Jul 27, 2007i just installed a fresh winxp pro, i did not set any password so the windows starts up without asking password, so i believed i have the administrative rights i have 2 local drives (c:) and (d:) i run gpedit.msc and configure the following:
1. remove run in start menu
2. remove search in start menu
3. prohibit command prompt to be use
4. Prevent access to drive access from my computer (drive c: only)
5. Hide specific drive in my computer (drive c: only)
i closed gpedit.msc now i cant re-run gpedit.msc to configure my settings again because i cannot access drive c: where gpedit resides (c:windowssystem32gpedit.msc) i dont want to re-install the whole thing or to start all over again. winxp expert

Jun 1, 2007I did a terrible mistake today. Typically I install XP in C drive and keep My Documents folder in D drive. All of my hard disk drives (except the linux partitions) are NTFS. I encrypted the My Documents folder and all of its files and subfolders.Today I reinstalled XP in the C drive, after a quick format on it. I was unaware of the fact that what might be happened to My Documents folder. Now I can only view the files and folders inside My Documents folder. Neither I open any file, nor I decrypt those files. Windows is saying access denied.

May 20, 2007I ran a windows recovery on my HardDrive yesterday - I selected NOT to delete any of my files.Now Ive set windows all up again, and I cannot access my documents. Firstly when i right click on the my documents folder it says 'empty', but when i try to double click it it gives me a 'cant access' error.My hard disk is showing on 1.8 Gb remaining, so my documents are still there somewhere, i just dont know how to access them?
