I am using Windows XP on my PC. For some reason we can not save any changes made to a word document. I tried Excel and that worked fine. When I choose Save As and click on save the computer hangs up. Internet Explorer is doing the same thing. I cannot type in a URL addresses and it go to the site. None of the addresses I type in show up in the drop down menu. If it is in my favorites I can get it to respond.
so, a few years back i read a magazine that said to change the type of computer in device manager to standard pc because it made the computer run a little better or faster.so now i've got my laptop and i've noticed it getting slower and thought that i would do this... VERY BAD MOVE! i can still boot windows and everything - it meant that i had to let the computer reinstall all of the drivers for my hardware - but i have noticed in the device manager now that there are two instances of 'standard pc', there is also a new section titled 'other devices' with about 15 devices that seem to have no driver for them - some mention 'ISA' so i am guessing that changing to standard pc means that windows thinks my laptop is now a desktop pc with ISA slots? i find that when i put my laptop lid down the thing shuts down, when i press the power button it turns off straight away (doesn't even shut down!). i had had the laptop configured for ages to do nothing when i closed the lid and give me shut down options when i pressed the power button. i look in power options and i can only cinfigure the monitor screen and hard disk power off options - every other option is not available. when i do bring up the shut down options i can no longer choose standby.
i have also realised that i can not turn on my wireless connection - i've tried all sorts to get it to work with no avail! the laptop is an acer ferrari and when i call up the manager app it says that bluetooth and wireless are not present (by the way i can still get the bluetooth button to work - correction - it starts up with the button on but if i turn it off it won't let me turn it on again). the emanager and presentation manager buttons on the laptops casing don't work either (i have to access them via software route).
There are some web addresses in the address tool bar that just will not delete . I have tried the basic means(tools, options, clear history, delete files delete cookies) Does not work with theses web addresses.
1. I know this problem is common, but i can searched high and low, and still have not found a fix for the start up "Generic Host Service Process Error".
2. Certain web addresses do not load. Mostly ad servers. For example the Drudgereport.com ads do no load on my computer. Also Myway.com logo, and yahoo logo to not load. Even the ads on this site do not load.
When I click on a web site address in an email or other document, my xp goes to http://0.0.0.1/ and not to the address. I can copy the address and then go to my browser and paste it in and get to the site, but it is a real pain.
Let's say I'm checking out one of the many motorcycle forums I enjoy. I'm discussing something & I want to incorporate a web address thaat they can just click on. How do I do this? The cut & paste feature doesn't work. Do I need to change some setting on my computer? Why can't I import a picture from my documents either?
I was wondering how to remove web addresses from the dropdown bar in IE. After going to clear history, there always remains one web address and i have no clue how to delete it.
I am running a home network with multiple Windows XP machines attached to the Internet with a Linksys router with the DHCP function turned on. Is it possible to have one of my machines use a static IP address instead of the one leased by the router. I know how to setup a static ip address, and I am using a number in the same subnet mask but I can't get access to the Internet.
i have a unsecured wireless network. (dont ask why, but i have now put a password). my question is, the other compouters that are using the internet via the broadband router, do they use the same IP address as my main computer? or they get assigned completly diff IP addresses, not even related to my home comuter. Does this mean, it is a possiobility that other people have taken advantage of my internet (by going on questionable sites), and it is linked to my IP address?
Here's the problem new computer with windows XP from Gateway can not translate ip addresses from numbers to dot com addresses. In other words, IE cannot pull up any internet service though ping is receiving with 0% lost.Norton package with Spy Sweeper and Window Washer has been installed and run with no change.
This has been a problem for me for about 2 years now.I've seen many other people complain with the same problem, but have never seen a viable solution (it's always what brands, switch channels, winsockfix, firmware, etc.)Wireless connect (Belkin Wireless Pre-N card)Win XP SP2 (updated as far as it can go) The problem: Connection becomes unstable(i.e. slow) for about 2-5 seconds, then utterly fails to connect...can't access web, can't access local address(i.e. 192.168.1.1), can't ping anything. When using DHCP on router, doing a repair (i.e. release/renew clear ARP cache, etc.) fixes. If using static IP, then I must assign a new IP. That is, I have to go from say 192.168.1.110 to 192.168.1.111
The problem is not unique to a single ISP & router. I have two networks I can access. For troubleshooting sake, I made them both unencrypted (although WEP, WPA makes no difference to the problem). I have also tried multiple channels in the theory of interference, and channel strength for both networks are good(using NetStumbler). Both networks are on far channels from each other (i.e. 1 & 11), and there are no other networks detected in the area by WinXP or NetStumbler.Net #1) Ameritech DSL Modem ->DLink Router ->Belkin Pre-N Wireless(access point). Router logs in PPoE (the DSL modem's "router functions are turned off"), Belkin access point has NAT turned off. (don't have the exact model numbers in front of me, but it's irrelavent, as the problem transcends manufacturers.
I tried using IE 7 and was not impressed and had some problems getting to web sites from addresses posted in emails that I normally have done for years on trusted sites. I am running XP Pro SP2. I tried doing a registry cleaning after deleting IE 7 and finally had to do a system restore to prior to installing it, but now I am getting the same problem again. The normal browser I use is Firefox 2.0 combined with using Outlook as my email program.
When forwarding mail I've tried everything and can't get rid of all of the addys that come with e-mails that are sent to me in yahoo mail. I've looked everywhere in yahoo and can't find an option that tells me how to do that. I've tried "edit with microsoft front page" and I keep getting "there was a problem" this is a nightmare.
When I shut down my computer it installed a new version of Outlook Express and it no longer had my contacts or emails. I couldn't figure it out so I set back my computer to an earlier date and it was back to normal.Shut down my computer again and I have the new version of Outlook again with no address or emails. Any thoughts on what is going on and how I can get this fixed?
Internet Explorer/Internet Options/Homepage has a lot of addresses for Homepage options that are sites I've visited but never used for my homepage, and I can't get rid of them. Delete doesn't work, control/delete doesn't work.
excuse my ignorance but is Outlook Express part of:
a) the operating system (in this case windows xp) b) microsoft office c) something else
I'm trying to set up a new computer for a charity, just one problem they did not back up their email addresses and emails on outlook express from their last machine (which failed) so what do we do to restore everything? just wondered if anyone knew WHERE on the hard drive does outlook express store its emails and email addresses?
I am purchasing a new computer. How do I transfer the emails and addresses from Microsoft Outlook to my new computer? How can I transfer my saved bookmarks from Firefox and IE to my new comuter?
I'm still having trouble deleting email addresses when i forward emails mainly in the form of jokes , i use Monzilla Thunderbird on XP , i have tried deleting but it still ends ups showing all the email addresses > When i used Outlet Express i did not have this problem.
i am having.I have just upgraded my pc with more memory a new hard drive and a new mother board.Did not save anything before hand.Because i thought by using the old drive as well as the new drive all info will be there. But windows would not start with the old drive because of the new motherboard. So i had to reload the windows onto the new drive. All is ok most things are there when i get into the old drive ,however i cant find my old e-mqil address or my e-mails i had in inbox.I am running windows xp pro and incredimail. What can i do to recover my old e-
i have two computers, a desktop and a laptop. I use my desktop primarily for storage (500GB total storage) and burning (2 16x DVD burners). I primarily connect to it through firewire and work on it via TightVNC using my laptop. Recently though, my laptop has been acting funky. The status window shows no IP address or subnet mask (i have them manually configured) at all. But when I go to properties, it has my configurations listed there. My wireless and wired connections are working fine, but the last time this happened I had to reformat, which I did last week and would rather not have to do that again. Because it works fine after format
For whatever reason, I cannot type when I ope the CMD prompt (Start/run/cmd) However, when I type in command it works. I believe this has something to do woth the fact that my itunes & quicktime have just stopped working
Just recently my comp stopped playing cd's of any type on the dvd drive.no error messages are being displayed. I have deleted the driver and restarted the computer.I was unable to update the driver, I have the best one now.I am running windows xp sp2.It says the device is working properly, location is 0(0).
I must have accidentally hit some button. Now I cannot type anything into a web page. I can type in on the addresses bar, Yahoo, and Google, but when a web page appears below which has a block for info, nothing happens when I click in the area where my curser is hovering. This happened all at once. I have done two different virus scans and put in a backup drive and even another keyboard. All the same results. The problem must be in some setting. I am not real experienced in computer repair but could this be a BIOS setting or something similar that was corrupted somehow?
I've been playingwith various flavors of Linux and using the QTPArted cd to resize partitions. Until recently, there have been no problems doing this. but within the last few days, I suddenly have an E: and F: that are of the type RAW and are 0-bytes in size. These two don't show in the Windows Disk Defragmenter or in the QTParted partitioner.
I presently have only Windows and no Linux installations. but they are taking up space as far as the allocation for the drive letters is concerned. Here are the drives that show normally:C: - my Windows partition D: - my CD drive In Windows Explorer, the two above show up..but I also have these E: and F:drives. I've looked through the Registry and don't see anything there
