When I start up my laptop, the screen immediatly says Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem.You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair. The deal is I dont have the cd. IF someone could tell me how to get an xp cd (without buying) that'd be great. I've looked in alot of websites about how to solve this problem but I can't find any solution to the problem without the cd. I can't bypass it by doing any of the F8 options. If it helps, I can access the Calpera DR DOS program.
Using windows xp media center edition service pack 2 Really need help. My sister called me to fix her computer today, i took a look and found that the sound card wasnt installed so i reinstalled it. Every thing was find, i decided to show her how to restore her system (using windows restore). Incase anything went wrong again (most things that go wrong on her computer are her fault). It's been a while since I had to do this so I'm looking for a little refresher here. Just booted up on my XP partition with the message: "windowssystem32configsystem file missing or corrupt please use 'r' for repair. I know I've got to go through the repair recovery, but I can't remember if I use the fixboot from the DOS prompt or fixmbr. Any suggestions or cleaner way to fix this would be greatly appreciated, I guess if all fails it will be back to the dreaded fdisk.
because the following file cannot be found or is corrupted: WindowsSystem32ConfigSystem The system is running Windows XP Home Edition. Will Windows Setup Repair fix this? Can I use a Windows Upgrade disk or do I need the disk for the full product?
Tried to reinstall xp but screen froze at 'select operating system to start'. Now I just have a blank screen with a cursor flashing in the top left side. I tried to boot by pressing F11 but cannot do so either by the cd or the hdd.

If I don't choose anything in the two seconds, it automatically chooses Microsoft Windows XP Professional, and boots up regularly,previously . Well i got lil problem.. that bothers me.every time i turn my PC on. Having problems with my Windows XP Pro (SP2) as when I go to "Turn off computer" (on the Start menu) and select "Switch Off" or "Restart" I lose the normal screens and it saves my settings but then gets to "Closing Windows" and then it sticks. Ctrl-Alt-Delete does nothing.
After installing Windows XP and all service packs and applications I am likely to use on it, I find it useful to disable services I am not likely to use on it to a bare minimum using MSCONFIG to stop additional CPU/MEM usage going on in the background. Here is a list of those services that I use, based on the fact that I have a cable broadband connection that is always on, and a Soundblaster Live Value Soundcard Go into Start Menu, Open RUN command, type MSCONFIG Goto SERVICES tab, select DISABLE ALL, APPLY, and check the following services to start with Windows and hit APPLY afterwards DHCP Client - AUTOMATIC Plug and Play - AUTOMATIC Remote Procedure Call (RPC) - AUTOMATIC Windows Audio - AUTOMATIC
There are also a few other services I use but not all the time, these are listed below and I would either put them on MANUAL if I use them sometimes or DISABLE them completely if I didn't use them at all Goto START MENU, PROGRAMS, ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS, SERVICES, and modify the following by right clicking...
I boot my computer up and its fine till it reaches the logon screen. There are no users to select to logon let alone the shutdown button. Now I have changed the logon screen from its default one, however, It worked fine for almost a year... so i really doubt thats the problem. Due to this problem I Installed XP Home [running as dual boot] so that i may fix the problem. XP Home works fine and i tried to replace the XP Pro Logonui.exe with the XP Home one. I also went into the recovery console and replaced the ntldr and ntdetect files. None of these worked and i still have the same problem. I would like to avoid reformatting simply because I have vital information that i would like to keep.
My dad has a Sony Vaio labtop that he bought from his friend at work with the operating system and all the software already installed. It has a single account named Owner that he clicks on which usually allows him to log-on, he never had a password. He clicks the icon, it appears to start logging on then suddendly it will say logging off, saving settings, then returns us back to the main log-on screen.I tried to start in safe mode by pressing F8 while the computer is intially turning on, but all the labtop does is make this loud beeping noise and starts up normally. No screen appears for me to select safe mode or anything.
I open Windows Explorer from Start button>Right Click.Sometime, I would like to select multiple folders in the Win Explorer while holding Ctrl or Shift Key.It never worked. While selecting next folder, the first folder always becomes unselected.
When booting up (XP), I get to the screen where I select the user name and enter the password. Then I get my usual wallpaper screen but no icons, start button, task bar, tray etc etc. I can't right click on the screen.
I CAN do Crtl+Alt+Del and get a run prompt up and browse the various drives (and even run software through this, e.g. internet) but the desktop is always completely blank. I have tried Safe Mode and restore last known good etc but neither works both same result, get to wallpaper but no icons.
I run XP SP2 on Athlon 2600 and 512 MB RAM and last night I shut it down as usal. When I turn my computer on this morning, it started to boot, but after few seconds, the long message appears, something like: "We are sorry for inconvenience but Windows can not start... " and it tells me to either boot into Safe mode, use last configuration, or start Windows normally. The last option is highlighted. But after that, blue screen flashes for just a moment (long enough to see there is some text but not long enough to read it), and then it goes back to start... detecting hard drive and stuff. It keeps looping like that forever. I tried to go to safe mode, but the same things happen. It goes back to start and then a "Start Windows normally" is Highlighted again.

I have a hp pavilion a335w home pc, O/S Windows xp home with serv pack 1. This was pre installed when purchased. Problem: in the middle of using mcafee removal tool my system crashed when it rebooted I got this messege: windows could not start because the following file missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem. My question is this, what is the best way to hopefully replace the missing file so I dont loose everything.
Win XP Pro, unknown SP. The computer belongs to a friend, Jo. Someone cloned Pat's HDD to an identical HDD, IDE, Western Digital. Upon boot, Jo was greeted with c:windowssystem32configsystem is corrupt. Problem onset after someone the cloning. As far as Jo knows, the source / original HDD was working fine prior to the clone.
My Compaq Presario C330EA is saying WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM is missing or corrupt. Safe modes will not load up. BIOS will (F10), but I'm lost when it comes to that.It says insert Windows System Restore disc or something, but I don't have that.Usually I go to Start>All Programs and eventually boot the computer up in a mode where I select what I think is called 'destructive' recovery this wipes everything except what was on the computer out of the shop.

I started getting BSOD when powering on. So I put in my XP disk and used Startup / Repair. It completed more or less successfully. However, when I boot up I get the Windows XP Home loading screen, the 3 green dots pass by 3-5 times, then freeze. I can get in via Safe Mode, and my apps seem to run OK.

Then tried to do a repair with the system discs as soon a s I get to the recovery console ans type the Windows version to repair I get the dreaded blue screen with message Stop error 0x00000043 0XC35C6000 0X00000000 0X00000000. So I can't boot into windows nor do a repair. I@ve tested the memory.
I have my friends laptop which after sorting malware problems and it working fine for 2 weeks it then would not allow him to get passed the Win XP Home Edition startup screen (where the scroll bar goes across the screen). I understand after reading some of the previous threads that loading up the boot disk and doing a repair may help; I want to give this a go but I do not have my friends boot up disk and he has gone on holiday however I do have an old Evaluation version of Win XP and Win XP Pro SP2, does anyone know if I can do the repair with one of these disks?
I have Windows XP Pro SP2 installed and I messed it up.I tried doing loads of stuff and I had to repair the master boot record and boot.ini file.Then when I booted on xp, the blue screen appared.I checked my hardware and did loads of tests but didn't find much problems and I if I did, I didn't understand them.For example I had test problems with my parallel ports and serial ports and the System Stress Test failed in RAM Memory.Anyway, I desided to use the repair installation on my CD Windows XP Pro SP1. But each time it arrived at "installing hardware", it failed and just stoped. tried a few times but it kept stoping. And now the repair doesn't even start... all I see is the mouse.
I have an XP Pro computer with SP1a. The computer started resetting itself after a blue STOP screen that flashed on for a fraction of a second shortly after the XP Professional startup screen. Since I couldn't persuade it to go into safe mode (or any mode), I tried a repair from installation CD. After about 20 minutes in the Installing Drivers section of the install it gives a STOP error saying that the CDR4_XP.SYS driver may be corrupt, and the error Page Fault in Nonpaged Area. It then does a memory dump and restarts with a Chkdsk and resumes installing drivers again. After a further 20 minutes the whole saga repeats itself. I have gone into the recovery console and get a warning message System Registry does not appear to have an active ControlSet key. I can then put in the Admin password and get into the console.
pop up saying that avg needed to update, it gave me the option to postpone it so i did; it told me it would be done when the computer was shut down. today monday, i turned the computer on and all i had was a blue screen...the only way to access the computer was through the debugger mode, after several things I decided to repair my windows xp... and foolishly did not make backups of my data. I was having some problems with windows xp media centre 2005 on my dell dimension 9150 so i decided to do a repair, i put in the xp cd and booted from it at start up, then the blue screen appears and the process starts, i then get the choice to install windows or repair using the recovery console, i chose install windows and then pressed r for repair on the os that was already there.It now has gone to the installation off the os where it installs the files and finalizes the process, it is getting to the third option where it installs devices but it is getting about three quarters of the way and then the driver box pops up saying that microsoft does not athorize the use of the driver would you like to continue but the thing is i cant, my mouse will not move on the screen so i am unable to click continue.
My comp is acting weird so i decided to either repair windows or reinstall windows, but after it says press any key to boot from cd, and i press a key, i get a blank screen or it loads windows.
I have just installed some anti virus software and during installation I got messages saying my registry had been damaged and i should log onto such-and-such site to download repair software and run it on my system. I am suspicious that if I do this I am exposing myself to total destruction. One of the messages has just popped up again and the site it directs me to is FixReg32.com.
