I have a hp pavilion a335w home pc, O/S Windows xp home with serv pack 1. This was pre installed when purchased. Problem: in the middle of using mcafee removal tool my system crashed when it rebooted I got this messege: windows could not start because the following file missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem. My question is this, what is the best way to hopefully replace the missing file so I dont loose everything.
I'm un able to restart my laptop, i get this message and it say press " r" for restart. I used the microsoft doc 307545kb but was unsuccessful this is what I did:md tmp
Win XP Pro, unknown SP. The computer belongs to a friend, Jo. Someone cloned Pat's HDD to an identical HDD, IDE, Western Digital. Upon boot, Jo was greeted with c:windowssystem32configsystem is corrupt. Problem onset after someone the cloning. As far as Jo knows, the source / original HDD was working fine prior to the clone.
It's been a while since I had to do this so I'm looking for a little refresher here. Just booted up on my XP partition with the message: "windowssystem32configsystem file missing or corrupt please use 'r' for repair. I know I've got to go through the repair recovery, but I can't remember if I use the fixboot from the DOS prompt or fixmbr. Any suggestions or cleaner way to fix this would be greatly appreciated, I guess if all fails it will be back to the dreaded fdisk.
My Compaq Presario C330EA is saying WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM is missing or corrupt. Safe modes will not load up. BIOS will (F10), but I'm lost when it comes to that.It says insert Windows System Restore disc or something, but I don't have that.Usually I go to Start>All Programs and eventually boot the computer up in a mode where I select what I think is called 'destructive' recovery this wipes everything except what was on the computer out of the shop.
My computer refuses to start telling me it is missing windows system32configsystem and suggests I start setup and type r to repair.I have done this and get a menu of commands which I dont have any idea how to use. I would be grateful if someone can give me step by step instruction on how to proceed.Instruction to do this followed by do next would get me through but it may help me in the future if an explanation of each step is given
because the following file cannot be found or is corrupted: WindowsSystem32ConfigSystem The system is running Windows XP Home Edition. Will Windows Setup Repair fix this? Can I use a Windows Upgrade disk or do I need the disk for the full product?
On startup this computer Windows (XP Pro) will not start because the file WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM is missing or corrupt. Is there a way to replace this file?
I start up my laptop I got this message (which only lasts for about 2 seconds): Please select the operating system to start: Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, Microsoft Windows XP Professional. If I don't choose anything in the two seconds, it automatically chooses Microsoft Windows XP Professional, and boots up regularly, previously . I booted it and this message same up after the previous screen, asking me to choose a way in which to start up my machine from the following options:
Safe Mode, Safe Mode w/ Networking, Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)Start Windows Normally No matter which I choose, I get this error message: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select "r" at the first screen to start repair. I don't have the original Windows Setup Disk
When I start up my laptop, the screen immediatly says Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem.You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair. The deal is I dont have the cd. IF someone could tell me how to get an xp cd (without buying) that'd be great. I've looked in alot of websites about how to solve this problem but I can't find any solution to the problem without the cd. I can't bypass it by doing any of the F8 options. If it helps, I can access the Calpera DR DOS program.
I've installed the new drive, formatted it two partitions, and installed my XP on the new drive. The old drive is still installed, and I can select which drive I am booting off of. Boot off the old drive, I'm on my old PC. Boot off the new one, I'm on the new.Only one of the XPs are active at a time. The other says it must be activated. So, at this point, I boot to the old, and (with this OS activated)run the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. I specify that I am saving the data on one of the drives in the PC. It runs and says it's successful. Then I boot off the new drive and (now with THIS OS activated) when I point the FAST to the directory where I saved the files, the wizard says there's no files there to load. I can see .dat files in the directory, but the wizard can't.
Ive installed xp pro and formatted my hard drive after i had a nasty virus which basicly stopped my computer from booting. However for some reason it seems like ex pro hasnt picked up any of my drivers at all, like i have no sound no internet. Im not really sure what to do im sure my first step would be getting onto the internet but my ethernet is plugged in nothing shows on my connections and i am unable to create a new conection, sorry if i havnt explained myself very well my computer skills arnt great.
IcrediMail XE, it's half way installed and stuck there, hasn't moved in the last hour, so I cannot uninstall it at Ad or Remove. How I got it in the first place I do not remember,
I've had some problems with IE crashing. I have Windows xp with sp2 installed. I went through the error report and most contain a problem with mshtml.dll. I got the windows web site and it said that there is some problem with sp2 in this case and they have a hot fix. But it looks like I would have to pay $99 bucks to contact microsoft and get it.
Since installing Service Pack 2 on my system (Athlon XP 2400+, Windows XP Pro, 512Mb) I am having intermittent problems with my machine slowing to a crawl. If I use task manager I find that CPU usage is 100% and quitting programs seems to have no effect. CPU usage stays at 100%! Can't remember this happening before installing SP2
Recently I became devoted to taking care of my computer by installing Anti-virus, spyware removers, and backup/performance utilties. Well I came across BartPE and it's features. Well I decided to use it and have the Rescue CD just incase. Doesn't hurt right? Plus the idea of it seems very helpful if I ever need a virtual Windows XP. I continued with the instructions and all was well until I got errors and warnings.
I posted the log here. I have no clue on what to do next. I used the CD that came with my Dell Dimension E521. I use Windows XP Media Center 2005.
Since I have had my comp (going on 4 months), when I boot i get a message saying BIOS is not installed, which i find very hard to believe, but this never affects anything. today when i boot my comp, it starts loading and its:scaning IDE drives then it says something about BIOS not being installed (but it was a slightly different message, i didnt have enough time to record it). then i get some weird screen, it gave me the option of entering setup by pressing F1 or loading default settings by pressing F2. i rebooted, again the same message, so i just chose to load default settings, and everything loaded, but when i got to loading windows, i loaded it and then it crashed, the comp just rebooted. then i followed the steps again and loaded default settings and it loaded fine. i know i cant give details about the error screens as i didnt have time to record them, but what should i do if this happens again?
I recently had a corrupt file and ended up doing a full repair of XP-home. That wiped out IE7-- replacing it with IE-6. I had some trouble downloading updates so replaced IE-7---- Now almost everything works fine. The exception is that I get notified that "Updates Are ready for your computer-- Click here to install these updates". I click on it and it looks like the updates are being installed-- just to be notified that "These updates were not able to be installed" (Words close to that). A few seconds later I am informed that "Updates are Ready for your computer" And the cycle continues. I have tried "Custom" (my normal way of doing them) and "Express" (in frustration)--- all to no avail.
So basically, I tried repairing a Windows XP Media center install by booting from a Windows XP Pro CD and then using the Repair function.I didn't use Media version, because the only install CD I had on me was Pro. It was probably a bad idea to install Pro over Media.
1.) Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.
2.) When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below. This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer
I installed Win XP Home on a computer that already had it installed. I really wanted to do a reformat and then install Win XP Home. So, now when I boot up, I get a choice of either of the installations. I want to delete one of them; how can I do this? Once this is done, and when I have more time, I would like to do a clean install. How do I do that?
I wanted to do a total system restore on a computer that I bought years ago. Well, now I can't delete any of the installs. I can't go my BIOS settings so that I can change my boot order settings so that I can boot from the xp pro disk.I noticed something was wrong when my hard drive space went from having almost 20Gb left down to a tad more than 6Gb. I'm not able to delete partition or change anything so that I can do a clean install.I'm not worried about saving photos or other data, it's nothing that I can't get back.
I have an older computer installed Windows XP Pro If looks fine.I was previously able to detect wireless signals and connect to the internet. I didnt add a wriless card it was already onboard the computer.I dont know what happened after the install:Do I have to download the wirless drivers for my wireless? Is there something I have to do so XP knows I have a wireless card?Is there a software out there that will detect what wireless hardware I have and show me what driver to install?
I have 4 installations of XP Pro and 4 individual CDs with Product Keys. 2 of theses installation CDs were never marked as to which machine they belong. I am in need of reinstallaing one of these. How do I verify which is which? Is it even necessary? They are all OEM copies.
I have had my Toshiba for 2 years and after reading a number of horror stories I decided to backup my information only to find that there is no "backup icon" in "system tools" and the microsoft website states that I should install it from my Windows cd rom! Unfortunately Circuit City didn't give me one when I bought my laptop.I have searched my programmes and have found that if I upgrade my Sonic Record Now I can get a backup function. I object to paying for something that I should have got as part of my purchase. My information consists mainly of photos, music and word documents.
I had to use fdisk and format my hard drive for various reasons but I must have done something wrong I installed my operating system xp pro onto the hard drive but now when I go to my computer I find I have another drive called f:drive and this is now my major drive (the biggest) I still have c:drive but it is not very large so f:drive has become my main drive where my operating system and all files are. Apart from this my pc's working perfect, can this configuration do any harm if it can is their any way to make c:drive my main drive again?
When I go System properties and I find that I have 1.5GB RAM installed on this machine. I would like to know how its divided? 1GB + 512MB OR 768MB + 768MB.
I seem to be experiencing a very funny problem when trying to install SP2 onto my Windows XP installationEvery time I try to install, everything starts of fine and installation is in progress until the file sp2.cab is being installed, and the error comes up:(In the past I have successfully installed SP2 from onto this XP installation I have).Expecting that the CD I was using may be defective, I downloaded tha fresh copy of the SP2 Installation (WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU) from the inernet and placed it directly on the hard drive and tried to install it from there -
