After going to "all programs"from Start Menu, the Program folder icons have gone "generic". The programs within the folder do have correct icons. I used a program called Registry Booster about a week ago. I wonder if it caused this? I notice that about 1/4 of the folders do have correct icons. How can I restore all the folder correct icons?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI started my computer today and all of the icons pointing to Microsoft Office files, Adobe Acrobat files, and similar files have been replaced by generic windows icons (white icon with little window in the middle) they are no longer program specific icons.Yes, I have tried TweakUI to rebuild the icons and it did nothing, I have tried increasing then decreasing the size of the icons to attempt to force windows to replace them with the correct icons and that has not worked either. I have also tried to use system restore and that did not help either.This is really making me angry and I don't understand why it happened I have searched everywhere for a solution and found nothing.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI was given a Toshiba notebook and only told it doesn't work. It will boot into XP but all of the non system icons have the same generic icon. Non of the icons work (nothing happens when you click on them). Basically can't get into anything. Trying to run system restore from Run brings up the no program associated with this file message. Safe mode is the same and Last Good Config was also the same. I tried running system restore from Safe Mode with command prompt using %systemroot%system32estore strui.exe. which brings up an empty system restore box. Although it looks like it came with a XP CD, all that I have is a restore CD. One other thing that bothers me is that about once a minute what sounds like the system fan goes on for about 10 seconds. I don't mind using the restore CD(it's not my laptop or info that will be erased), but I would like to avoid that if possible.

Then it takes forever for IE to load. Do I have spyware on my computer again????

The first two of the 3 check boxes underneath are ticked. I have no idea what the default action was before, but I don't see anything resembling simply open a folder. Can anyone help me reset the default action or create a new one to open the folder?

Some folders do not include this option. As well, under windows xp will not allow me to change the icon of the default folder type. i know there are various applications such as iconpackager that go in a do it for you , however is there a way to manually change the folder icons for folders such as "program files", "my music", etc ?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy caps lock on my keyboard works in complete reverse. with the "caps lock" on all of the letters are in small caps and when it is off all of the letters are in large caps. also my shift keys do not work. With the caps lock on the periods and commas give me "larger than" and "smaller than". the only way to get a period is to go to the "numeric keyboard. also I can"t reset the cursor when I try to go back to an earlier place it highlights the words in my folders I am unable to choose only one file When I click on a file it highlights every file from the beginning of the list to the one I have chosen.

When I click the icon, it starts to open the website, but then locks & will not open. When I go to my icon folder to choose an icon, instead of seeing all of the icons I have placed, there, all I see is about 100 Nero icons.Could uninstall Nero and I suppose that would correct the problem.

When I right click in the upper panel of the folder and open the customize panel, I put the icons I need at the top of the folder. Yes, I know that the panel on the left in the folders has many of the functions that the icons serve, such as delete, rename, etc. BUT... after I put all the icons I need at the top, as soon as I close and reopen the folder, the icons have disappeared!!What is going on? How come? Home come I can't set the icons I need for all Explorer folders at one time??I'm hoping someone can help me fix this!
I have a PC with Windows XP and for some reason, many of my program icons changed to the icon of another program. This is my Mom's computer and lord only knows how this happened, but for example, when I click start > all programs > microsoft office > word, it's icon is not the word icon, but the icon for another program on the computer. It is like this all over the place.When I click on word, it starts opening the program that is associated with the icon and not word. Any idea why this may be happening and how I can fix it? I tried right-clicking on the program > properties, but the find target button is grayed out so I can't change the program it's associated with.

I think i installed forceware 7.7 drivers before i played the gaem so i'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. BUt anyways, the desktop icons changed to the 'default' icons, the plain ones that came with windows.

This only presents a real problem when I log off of my dial up server and the icon remains highlighted. I can delete the contents of the folder, but can't delete the folder itself. The error I receive is: Cannot delete "xxxyyyxxx" : It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again. I have attempted to delete runnign in safe mode.

I don't know what could've changed, but it is very annoying and I need to find a way to make it stop. View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to open a folder of a program it doesn't work. I click the folder and the mouse changes to the mouse and hourglass picture but nothing happens after that. Sometimes I get that error sound but no message pops up. Then the title on the title bar of my applications goes blank and I no longer can click the menu that says file, edit, view,It highlights it but it won't let me click it. I also cannot right click anymore and when I try to reset my computer, it highlights it but I can't click that either.I also can't open the task manager when it happens nor can I type in my address bar or open a new tab for my browser.. I tried running a virus scan but it catch anything so I have no idea what I can do. I've tried system restore but that didn't fix it.
