When I close a program the desktop icon remains highlighted, until I mouse click elsewhere on the desktop. This only presents a real problem when I log off of my dial up server and the icon remains highlighted. If I forget to un-highlight it, my phone won't ring, although my answering machine will pick up the call.

Yesterday I cleaned a computer using (cleanup.exe)I also uninstalled McAfee and installed Avast! Now all of the sudden when I boot up all of the icons are highlighted and my desktop wallpaper is cut in half, also the icons don't work when you click them
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy caps lock on my keyboard works in complete reverse. with the "caps lock" on all of the letters are in small caps and when it is off all of the letters are in large caps. also my shift keys do not work. With the caps lock on the periods and commas give me "larger than" and "smaller than". the only way to get a period is to go to the "numeric keyboard. also I can"t reset the cursor when I try to go back to an earlier place it highlights the words in my folders I am unable to choose only one file When I click on a file it highlights every file from the beginning of the list to the one I have chosen.

When I click the icon, it starts to open the website, but then locks & will not open. All icons will open except the ones that I have added that link to things like fantasy football sites or game sites etc. I am running windows XP on a Dell laptop.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOn my Toshiba laptop running W-XP SP2 it keeps getting 'locked up'. It locks up on shut down, booting, and launching programs. I had to wipe out my hard disk because I had to use the recover disk that came with this Toshiba junk Right now it is locked up with the Spysweeper screen up an the error message is "THIS PROGRAM CANNOT BE CLOSED BECAUSE IT IS LOCKED BY THE SYSTEM"!!! Got that when I did Ctrl/Alt/Del. When it locks on shut down I get same message, and same when locks on boot. Only way out seems to be UNPLUG!!! I've already lost everything anyways so it don't matter. Is this a TOSHIBA issue or a W-XP Home Edition SP2 issue?

I think i installed forceware 7.7 drivers before i played the gaem so i'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. BUt anyways, the desktop icons changed to the 'default' icons, the plain ones that came with windows.

I ran spybot, NAV, Adware, and Pest Patrol and cleaned up a few spyware and adware programs, but nothing seems to help out the icon situation. I went to save my drawings, but apparently accidentally saved the photo under the drawins name and then closed the program. This morning I discovered the bad news. View 4 Replies View RelatedI remember few days ago.. my kaspersky identified some system file as a trojan.. so it probably a misunderstanding when i was installing system mechanic. it got deleted.. and i have this automatic option to delete them after they are put in backup in kaspersky.
now whenever i open my pc, my desktop and taskbar and start menu,etc goes away after a few seconds! Now i rely on the task manager..
Several unwanted desktop icons appeared recently (I think they come via Search2000 when IE is used). They won't right-click for deletion, nor will they allow themselves to be drop-dragged to the recycle bin. They don't appear in the desktop icon list when using the desktop cleanup feature.
