Desktop Icon Highlighted - Restore?

Sep 7, 2008I am not sure what I did but the text on my desktop icons is suddenly highlighted and despite trying several things I can't make it go away! All I have managed to do is change the color a few times. I googled this problem and tried the several 'solutions' that I found but none of them worked. I ran spybot, NAV, Adware, and Pest Patrol and cleaned up a few spyware and adware programs, but nothing seems to help out the icon situation. This only presents a real problem when I log off of my dial up server and the icon remains highlighted. If I forget to un-highlight it, my phone won't ring, although my answering machine will pick up the call.

I installed office 97 from my original cd. when I try to open word documents in MY DOCUMENTS i get an error message:C:Documents and SettingsOwnerMy DocumentsTest file.doc is not a valid Win32 application. I can open the file if I open Word first and open the file from there.I have selected word as the program to open doc files in folder options.
However when I look at a word created file in my documents it doesn't have the word icon it has an icon which I think might be for word pad.

Oct 5, 2009When I try to open Microsoft Office Word 2003 a window pops up that says window installer then it says installing microsoft office word feature. It stops half way and another window pops up that says Installation error file not found. A required installation file SKU112.CAB could not be found. Original installation source required. If you installed Microsoft Office Standard edition 2003 from cd please insert your cd.
If you installed Microsoft office standard edition 2003 over your computer network please browse to the installation source on your computer. Also a window popped up that says Microsoft word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install application. I don't have the cd its lost. This just started doing this about a month ago. I can't open any files through microsoft office word or power point.

Yet if I have Word open and click on the document it opens instantaneously.
