This only presents a real problem when I log off of my dial up server and the icon remains highlighted. If I forget to un-highlight it, my phone won't ring, although my answering machine will pick up the call.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago windows told me that it had "detected spyware" so began installing antispyware software. After this had completed, and I was told that I needed to spend the $24 to buy the software to rid me of all the various nasties the internet supplies, i deleted the software and had developed the problem of not being able to see my wallpaper. Since looking round I've found that it's now down the active desktop being disabled somewhere along the line, without my knowledge. Having gone through the largely useless and time consuming "help" that is given on the Microsoft help section, I've now discovered that, although i do have active desktop on me computer, i have no way of getting to it, turning it on, or even finding any trace of it. Can anyone help, as my desktop is now just blue with icons.

View 11 Replies View RelatedOn my desktop the icons have picked up a blue box with >>. Some have a white box with a little right leaning arrow.Note: the system has slowed down. I was using Comcasts free McaVee and then got a notice that my free subscription has expired. Comcast now provided Norton for free, so I went there and downloaded that virus software. While de bugging I have cleaned errors uncovered by CheckIt Register Cleaner program and Skybot. On booting it takes it's time. The McaVee burped when I reset to a earlier starting point (one day).running standard PC with XP. I have updated windows. I don't have KB977165. I see from below this is incorrect. I do have this pill???? I am a novice (but old) user, easily confused.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty sure the title is self explainatory. I went to sleep last night with the computer on and when I woke up this morning the blue screen was there. I restarted and when Windows loaded the taskbar and the desktop icons were missing. It's been like this all day. I've done System Restores and uninstalled recent things that I've installed.

View 10 Replies View RelatedThis is SIMILAR to several posts I've seen, but different in a subtle way. I have no desktop icons and no wallpaper on one of my computers, but I have the start toolbar and tray icons, and I have access to task manager and all my programs. However, when I right click on the desktop and click arrange icons all the options are grayed out. Also, I cannot change the wallpaper - it remains solid blue (or any other color) no matter what I try. Neither picture wallpapers nor tiled wallpapers appear. I've included the hijack-this log below.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter a malware infection (Inet2 and SpySherriff - which took over my desktop) I cleaned up some files, directories and registry-entries. Now, after the cleaning activity as explained by techguys, everything seems going well. All programs do start without problems (through the start-menu or the quick-start taskbar), but there is a small drawback: my desktop screen shows only my wallpaper, there are no icons. The right-mouse click on the desktop also doesn't work (although the desktopsettings are accessible through the control panel). I use WinXP pro. what is wrong and how do I get the icons back on the screen?

Several unwanted desktop icons appeared recently (I think they come via Search2000 when IE is used). They won't right-click for deletion, nor will they allow themselves to be drop-dragged to the recycle bin. They don't appear in the desktop icon list when using the desktop cleanup feature.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThey are all files that I copied from my own cds, not from the internet, and do not have 'tag'information. All 750 of them, except for 8, show up as'Track 01', or 02, 03, etc. When I looked at the file properties of the 8 files that *did display their titles on the mp3 player, under the 'summary' tab, in the 'track title' field, it was BLANK. Under the 'general' tab, the actual title of the file was listed correctly.
The files that did *not have their correct titles listed on the mp3 player, under the 'summary' tab in 'file properties' in XP, had a title like 'Track 01' listed. Under the 'general' tab of file properties however, the actual title of the song was listed correctly. Is there a way I can go in and mass edit out the 'Track 01' title from all those files? Does this indicate some other problem?
