My Windows Updater has stopped working. I get the following message when I try to connect to the Update site through Help and Support: "Cannot display the page The page you are trying to view cannot be displayed because the server it resides on does not respond. Please try again later." I've tried to go to several XP update pages via Google and I get similar messages. Has Microsoft changed something and not told us?
View 4 RepliesI am having trouble getting the update files from QuickPayroll to run. The auto update downloaded the files, but they will not run, so I did a manual update, that file will not run as well. I can run most other exe files OK. What I have noticed is that the files that do not run also do not have information in the properties, like version and such. I have used file Anylzer to query for file information and these files do not have the same type of listings as other files. (Lack of or incomplete version, PE sections, headers). Question: is there something in XP blocking these files because of the lack of information?
MS windows update site will not allow manual download that I can see. It wants to download and install. Am I reading this correctly, or will it download and LET me install at my convenience? MS Instructions says to turn OFF AV before installing and I am not about to turn off AV while internet is turned on.
I am trying to download win XP, sp3, (for single computer, NOT for "IT" version) and it seems that MS does not want that to happen. I have spent the last hour searching for a MANUAL download of SP3, and not having any luck. Found several ways to get the "IT" version but there is a warning on the site, " NOT for single computers". I want to have a copy of SP3 for future needs and do not want to DISABLE AV while downloading. MS site advises to disable AV before installing SP3. Can anyone give me a link that will let me download SP3 and save to file, for individual computer?
I am fed up with all the automatic update notices, but the only way I found to turn them off was in the administrative tools/ services settings. This got rid of all the messages, but now I cannot even manually download updates from the windows update without turning autoupdates back on. Is there a more elegant way to do this?

I've spoken to my isp but they say they dont support networks and as I have one pc online thats there job done.So its my problem now can anyone help.I have long since lost my router cardboard box but on my plastic box it says 4 port 10/100mbps ethernet broadband router and the router make is mentor.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI use Google as my home page and lately I been having intermittent problems with it. When I open my internet explorer, it says "Internet Explorer cannot display page". It's not my internet connect because if I type in an address other than my home page in the URL bar it will open. My AOL works too. After hitting the home button a few times, my home page, Google will open. But after awhile surfing the net, when I hit the home button, I get that message again that it can't display page. Right now as I type this, I hit the home page button and it says cannot display page so I hit the back arrow and I come back to this page and I can continue typing and I can send this thread. What's wrong with my home page "Google"?

We got all 3 service packs installed but when I tried to go to the Windows Update page, it is always redirected to a non-scanning page for Windows 95. I have searched the registry for the URL it is redirected to without results. Something is redirecting Internet Explorer to the Win 95 page and I cannot figure out what or why.

When I click verify, another window comes up for "The Updates Are Being Downloaded And Installed" However it just hangs for 2 minutes and then it states "Failed To Install" I can't get any windows updates now. i have a network at home, with two wired pcs and a wireless laptop connected to the network. we all had the internet until i went onto a website on my computer (one of the wired ones) whereupon loads of popups came up. it took me a couple of minutes to close all of the popups, and when i returned to the desktop, the wallpaper had been replaced by an internet shortcut to a site advertising a spyware blocker. i then found out how to remove it in the desktop settings box. that was fine, except i couldnt get onto the internet afterwards, and programs such as msn messenger and half life 2's steam did not log on either. however, the other wired and wireless computers could still access the net etc................

All of the sudden when I go there to get updates, all I get is the option to click on Express or Custom. Then when it gets to the page where ya see the green balls moving across the page while its scanning my system to see if I need any updates, it just stays there and if I stay at that page too long, my PC locks up.
I'm running XP Pro with 500MHz and 256 in ram. I've tried to contact Microsoft tech guys that I can barley understand and they have no idea what's going on. It doesn't make any difference if its a fresh install of XP Pro with nothing else installed except for my wireless card so I can connect to the net, or the current system I'm running now.
Is there any way that I can have my laptop, when powering up, automatically launch Internet Explorer and display the Home Page of my website on CD or from the Hard Drive?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI reformatted a laptop and install XP for someone as they were having a lot of problems with it and I thought this would be the best way to go as alot of program stopped working. Anyway, after installing it, I still found that I couldn't installed the games he claimed were working before something went wrong and I determined it was the graphics card. I was even more sure when I noticed how poor the refresh rate was (scrolling up/down on web pages and playing games).
So I went to device manager to find out what the card was and install the latest drivers (he doesn't have the drivers for sound/video). But display adapters are not shown in device manager and I went through display -> settings -> advanced and it didn't tell me what card or driver was in there, all the information wasn't there. So any idea's as to how I can work out what card is in this laptop?
I really need help with this one. My standby mode is greyed out and on top of that it says my intel display adapters aren't working proberly in device manager. So what should i do im not really good with this tech stuff. Do i uninstall them or what because i have no idea how to get them back and i REALLY do not want to mess up my computer. Any help would be GREATLY appriciated thanks. And the intel adapter or driver came with the comp. Ive had this computer for about 9 months.

However, I didn't uninstall my previous drivers, and when i remembered that i have to, i did...but after i had installed the latest drivers. And that's when the problem seemed to start. I looked on the Add/Remove programs list to see if the latest drivers were there, but there was nothing there. I couldn't find them on the list anywhere. So I tried reinstalling them, and when they were being installed, i got a message saying: "Windows could not load the installer for display. Contact your hardware vendor for assitsance."

I decided to give it a run, so I started the repair process. And of course, as soon as I did, I realized I was on the WRONG INSTALLATION (mine, which was working - not my friend's)! The operation hadn't yet started - at least according to the progress bar - and the screen said something like, "Setup is loading" or "Setup is preparing" or something like that.

When I clicked the first one, it proceeded to download 100%, register 100% and then went back to the update page. I click "express" and it comes to the above error page again. Continues in this loop. Clicking the second option above brought me through endless useless "help" pages that seem to tell me nothing and offered no real solution.
