I am running Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 1. When I go to Windows Update, the page just hangs.
My ADSL Internet Connection is really slow.
I have also run Spybot Search and Destroy.
This morning it tells me it has recovered from a serious error, but after about 5 minutes of seemingly normal usage, it briefly flashed some kind of blue screen error (no way in hell I could read it)Now it is constantly asking for a chkdsk, I let it run and all appears OK... but when I get to the login screen the display starts to look weird like there are lines running through it, and it promptly flashes the same blue screeen and starts all over again.
I have been able to briefly get into safe mode, tried a system restore but when I went to reboot the processes started all over again. PLEASE NOTE that getting into safe mode takes some patience.... it hangs FOREVER when loading the agpCPQ.sys driver, and sometimes just goes ahead and reboots on it's own.. TWICE so far today I have managed to get into safe mode, but only for a few minutes before it reboots and starts over.
System Restore window is completely blank.Windows Update page displays the following message even though the ActiveX control is already installed. Also, the Information bar does not appear, thus you're unable to re-install the Windows Update ActiveX control.install the ActiveX control required to view the website
Help and Support pages are incomplete.System Information utility (MSINFO32) displays a blank window.
I keep getting blue screen with page fault in non page area at start up. How do I fix this? I have Windows XP. Dell desktop.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have windows xp home edition service pack 1 with all the updates, i can't install sp2 because my hardware (even with bios update) will not accept it and i had to reinstall windows after not being able to boot from installing sp2...but that is another story. After doing some recent updates my computer now hangs for about a minute before entering windows, it hangs after it reaches the blue screen that says "windows is starting" than finally you see "welcome" and it loads. I'd like to think of myself as a power and advanced user so i did the basics, checked the startup, disabled services, ran norton, used microsoft antispyware did a registry check, used tuneXP to defrag the boot.ini and used bootvis. The comp sure as hell restarts fast but bootvis says that "log on service" takes 168.7 seconds that is just not good.

I couldn't really swift through the forum completely, just in case my concern has been solved previously, please let me know , I will get directed to that page.It takes around 7- 10 minutes to get the welcome screen! And during that process system restarts itself twice..I use McAfee AV and SuperSntiSpyware and PC looks like got no threats. 2 days back i also scanned my Desktop thoroughly with Windows live scan and fixed few registry errors and no other threats were reported.When I switch the power on, power LED starts glowing only after 3 minutes after 2 more minutes black screen appears which shows boot agent and restarting happens.

I updated the BIOS on the original motherboard and have now fitted a new MB but still the problem is the same. Everything was fine before the original drive went down with death rattles.

We got all 3 service packs installed but when I tried to go to the Windows Update page, it is always redirected to a non-scanning page for Windows 95. I have searched the registry for the URL it is redirected to without results. Something is redirecting Internet Explorer to the Win 95 page and I cannot figure out what or why.

When I click verify, another window comes up for "The Updates Are Being Downloaded And Installed" However it just hangs for 2 minutes and then it states "Failed To Install" I can't get any windows updates now. This is on a fully up to date XP SP2 OS system, with Avast and is Spyware clean as well, on an older generic clone 600mhz AMD K6-III with 384MB Ram and plenty of hard disk space. Although it is a little slow and methodical it has never caused me any problems
When I turn on computer it takes quite a while for MSN page to load and then allot of the times it times out, I refresh and it still wont download. I then power off and try again. Am also having problems downloading my updates, I got error 0x800c008 today

Went to Microsoft download page and clicked on full file version (SINCE I don't have the CD), but still get the request to insert the CD halfway through the installation. Since I can't complete the download, the update icon pops up every time I log on. Any suggestions?
My Windows Updater has stopped working. I get the following message when I try to connect to the Update site through Help and Support: "Cannot display the page The page you are trying to view cannot be displayed because the server it resides on does not respond. Please try again later." I've tried to go to several XP update pages via Google and I get similar messages. Has Microsoft changed something and not told us?

All of the sudden when I go there to get updates, all I get is the option to click on Express or Custom. Then when it gets to the page where ya see the green balls moving across the page while its scanning my system to see if I need any updates, it just stays there and if I stay at that page too long, my PC locks up.
I'm running XP Pro with 500MHz and 256 in ram. I've tried to contact Microsoft tech guys that I can barley understand and they have no idea what's going on. It doesn't make any difference if its a fresh install of XP Pro with nothing else installed except for my wireless card so I can connect to the net, or the current system I'm running now.
Since I uploaded the update of Windows Defender my options on my PC have changed.I can no longer type any particular letters using my keybord without a window popping up. Here are the following keys which causes me problems: E = Opens up My Computer R= RUN U= Utilility Manager D= Desktop F= Search Results L= Login Window M= Desktop I cannot type in Google, Firefox address bar. If I press one of these keys while I'm on my Desktop these actions occur too.

View 6 Replies View Relatedwhen you boot up, if there is a cd in the cd-rom drive, it seems to 'hang' during windows startup for about 30-60 seconds. During that time it doesn't seem to be accessing the drive. After the 30-60 second delay, it boots up fine. Point me in the direction I need to go.
First of all, hello everyone! I'm happy to have joined your community. I feel sort of bad for joining only to ask a question, but the boards just seemed so helpful I couldn't resist. Anyway, I recently installed the .net framework to a stable build of windows XP SP2, and now I'm having some problems. I deleted the asp.net account and checked the "don't use welcome screen" box in user profiles because I don't really like the login etc... that comes with it.
That was two days ago. This morning I turn on my computer only to have it take a long time at the windows loading screen, and hang at the off-blue loging screen without bringing up the login box. Now, I wanted to somehow get rid of the .net framework after I realised I didn't really need it, but now it's not even possible. I tried both entering in safe mode (hanging black screen with "safe mode" in the usual places) and using the last known working setting (and got the same off-blue login screen.) I don't mind reverting to a saved state, but I can't even access the desktop to be able to.
I'm trying to access IIS on my XP and there is no option for it on the Windows Components page, I assumed IIS came with XP, is there another way to access it or can I send off for software?

Sometimes I am watching a movie, sometimes playing a game, and sometimes, I just leave it open coz a download is running, I come back and check 10 minutes later, the computer has hanged. I have noticed that when this happens, the hard-disk light comes permanently on.
Ran AVG and found few viruses, removed those, no avail. Ran malware/spyware remover, found few, removed those, no avail. Formatted C drive, reinstalled windows, PC ran well for 10 days, problem came back. Initially had 512 MB RAM, changed it to 1GB, formatted PC again, PC ran well for 10 days, problem back again. Can't run checkdisks and all because the comp hangs every single time.
I have just installed Windows XP SP3 in my computer. Everything is normal except when i browse a folder that has image files (at least .jpg). It makes thw windows explorer hangs (stop responding) and i have to end it then restart it with task manager.

Cannot enter safe mode as it stopped at /driver/JGOJO Cannot enter "from previous working setting" I can't boot up at all. The error code in the blue screen is Page Fault in Non Paged Area with code 0x00000050 something.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have never had a problem before with windows updates. however, It says I need to download that windows validation tool so I click on it to download and install and it goes through everything like it should then says it failed to install, 4 times now it comes up error 0X80070005 I went through the thing where Microsoft is suppose to help you they get info and then help you solve it, I stilll haven't heard a thing from them. The funny part is that I downloaded the windows defender (Microsoft Antispyware) and to do so I had to go throught the windows validation and no problem it went through it and I downloaded it. Is that the same thing as this windows update? anyway I can't find error 0X80070005 can anyone help because I got thinking that I haven't had any windows updates for awhile I wonder if I can't get any until I get this downloaded?
