Update Not Working - Security Patch

I was checking my system when I realised my win xp has not had any security patch updated since Feb 05! A closer check discovered that instead of auto updating as I had assumed, it failed. When I tried to update, it feedback:
Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer. To continue: Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended) Let me read about more steps that might be required to solve the problem
When I clicked the first one, it proceeded to download 100%, register 100% and then went back to the update page. I click "express" and it comes to the above error page again. Continues in this loop. Clicking the second option above brought me through endless useless "help" pages that seem to tell me nothing and offered no real solution.

I applied the 7/13 security patches last night and when manually shutting down this morning, got the blue screen of death. Had to leave for work so not sure what will happen next, but I have had these before with previous security patches.

the second encounter 1.0 to 1.5 update patch onto my desktop, but I canceled as I realised that I didn't need it. So, now I cannot delete it! It it is not set to read-only, it is not in my Firefox's browser downloads list, as I applied the setting of auto-clean up downloads, and I removed it from the list. The thing is that it is looking stupid on my desktop. A stupid pointless block iconed execute file. I made a copy of it and renamed it but still I cannot delete it! An Error comes up saying: 'Error Deleting File or Folder Cannot delte Copy of secondencounterpatch150publicbeta: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.

AFTER APRIL 11TH, WILL YOU BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL INDIVIDUAL COMPONENT UPDATES FOR MICROSOFT PRODUCTS FOR XP?) Let's say for example that it is now April 12th, and a security patch is released for OE 6. Could we just do the following:
1) Go to www.microsoft.com
2.) Individually select the product to update or patch to install (I.E my hypothetical OE 6 question) than download and install the patch?
IS EVERYONE RUNNING XP GOING TO BE PROMPTED WITH SOME MESSAGE SAYING: "ATTENTION: SP-2 IS REQUIRED FOR ALL XP UPDATES." OR, DOES THIS SP-2 MANDATORY APPLY ONLY TO RUNNING WINDOWS UPDATE OR AUTOMATIC UPDATE, meaning that we can still download individual product enhancments by going to www.microsoft.com and selecting by product or service?

Right after Windows XP security update yesterday 1/21/2010 I found my computer was off. This was normal after an windows update. So I turned my computer back on and received an error message of "NTLDR is missing". After trying twice to re-boot, with the same error, upon checking my startup BIOS file I found the BIOS record had been altered to boot using the wrong hard disk.

I need help in removing "Security Update for Windows XP (KB905749)." I am having a problem with My Computer taking forever to load, my device manager being empty, and having to type in "http://" before everything in the internet. I have done extensive research into this and many other users are experiencing the exact same problem. They say to remove it from Add/Remove Programs via the Control Panel, and some have done this successfully, but the computer is saying "This update cannot be removed."

I tried installing the latest security updates from microsoft 2 days ago.. One of them KB980218 refused to load at all after i tried 12 times.. after reading alot i read its because its NOT supported by my older version of Windows.. Im running Windows 5.1 i believe there are NOW waves in all my pages when im scrolling up or down in all my images. web pages. etc.. terrible waves like its having a hard time even scrolling.. the images are in waves..AND my Mc Affee virus scan gets to 788 files (20%) scanning and just stops.. wont complete a scan.

My updates are set on notify and this update has downloaded but never installs and goes away. I have tried installing it many times but the yellow shield continues to pop back up saying it is there to be installed.
This is on a fully up to date XP SP2 OS system, with Avast and is Spyware clean as well, on an older generic clone 600mhz AMD K6-III with 384MB Ram and plenty of hard disk space. Although it is a little slow and methodical it has never caused me any problems

This problem is now resolved: here is the fix that worked for me in case anyone else can use it. I tried a fix I found by Googling, applied it, and it did not work. This morning I called the Microsoft toll free number for Security issues (on their web site reached.Go into add remove programs and uninstall the msxml update kb945530. Close and go to windows update (start, all programs, near top of list). Click on express update: the update should now show on the list. Reinstall the update, then restart your computer.This worked for me and I hope it helps someone else who has the problem.

I was updating multiple WinXP Pro SP2 computers at the same time, and suddenly one of them failed during the update, and since then i cannot update cause the system always complains about a security certificate is out of sync with your time. And it suggest that I set the clock which is perfectly ok.Now the next thing I did was (the obvious) google 0x80072F8F (this was the error code winxp update gave to me.
and after googling some I did the following1.Deleted the cache of IE 6 2.Made sure computer got no virus 3.Tried from safe mode (virus scan as well) 4. regsvr32 /s Softpub.dll 5. regsvr32 /s Mssip32.dll 6. regsvr32 /s Initpki.dll 7. regsvr32 /s Msxml3.dll 8. rebooted tried again

I'm running XP Pro. Today I received a windows update notification (I have automatic updates set to inform me of available updates before installing). All the updates installed correctly except:Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP x86 (KB979909)and Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 Security Update for Windows 2000 and Windows XP (KB979906).A summary of the related knowledge base pages regarding the failed installations tells me to uninstall, then reinstall all versions of net framework on this machine. Then go back to the Windows Update web site to check once again for updates to the newly reinstalled net framework versions.

This tweak works also if your Using Zone Alarm or Zone Alarm Pro V.3.7. I found out by applying this tweak for Nortons with my Zone Alarm program.
If you are using Norton Internet Security 2002, and are experiencing slow start-up of XP. i.e. you can see the desktop with icons etc. but it takes 30-60sec before you can start using the computer.1. ive recently encountered a problem with automatic update. it doesnt seem to want to turn on,nor can i get any updates through windows updates..when i try to start it through administrative services i get this error....(error 1058: the service cannot be started either because its disabled ,or because it has no enabled devices associated with it)..however,automatic updates is turned on to "automatic" and "background intelligence transfer" and "event log" are also on. it just doesnt seem to want to start.when i click on "windows update" to update my computer on the web it tells me that there was an error starting this service because one of these three services is not running,however they are all running. my clock will also not synchronize either,no matter how i try.i cannot find any other services that might effect automatic updates from running. i have windows xp sp3. this just started today.

Slipstreaming SP2 onto my XPhome SP1 worked fine, at least the first time. (Did not try for a bootable CD yet.) Then the 2 folders were wiped, started over, to now change deploy.cab to the newest. The update.exe..command gave an error: "Program error, updated.exe has generated errors and will be closed...". Retries, reboots, not changing deploy.cab, doing it in a DOS cmd window of W2000 Prl SP4, do not work. What is needed to unstick this? I really wnat to have the slipstreamed XP ready when the new computer parts arrive in a few more days (Asus A8V Deluxe, 3200+ 90nm, 1G Patriot LLK, SLK3700-BQE etc).

My Windows Updater has stopped working. I get the following message when I try to connect to the Update site through Help and Support: "Cannot display the page The page you are trying to view cannot be displayed because the server it resides on does not respond. Please try again later." I've tried to go to several XP update pages via Google and I get similar messages. Has Microsoft changed something and not told us?

I'm looking for the SP2 TCP/IP connection patch from a reliable source. I looked around here at TSG and did not really find anything useful, but i do totally suck azz at searching. What i would really like is a patch that only allows like.20 connections instead of 10. I don't need unlimited or 100 connections, for that defeats MS purpose of this.To slow the spread of virus's. But 10 is just a bit too little for myself b/c i keep getting the connection limit errors in my event viewer.

This update won't install and I had trouble once before...a long time ago... installing this update. I went to Google for a fix and on some forum a tech told me to un-install the ver. 2.0 that I have on there now...reboot...and then d/l the new update. I didn't bookmark the forum unfortuneately. Now, my system won't even allow me to un-install the old ver. 2.0 so I'm at a loss as to what to do. Does anyone know how to fix this

I have been trying to install the unauthorized WMF hotfix patch but keep getting that my system is not compatible with it. Once it said there was a problem with the windows installer package. I have Windows XP home. I used to have Service Pack 2 but removed it because of errors I was getting. Since removing it back in November, I have had no more errors. I now only have Service Pack 1. I do, however, still have some Service Pack 2 updates installed. I don't know why it says my system is not compatible with the patch. I did unregister the picture & fax viewer as suggested by Microsoft.

I know that many in this group support downloading Windows XP updates.Personally,I download and install ONLY what is absolutely necessary, which for me has avoided problems with smooth running systems. There are suddenly no options listed under the "Manage security settings for:" heading, just blank space, so I have no way to edit my Firewall, Antivirus or Windows Update settings from the Center. I opened services.msc and it shows the service started automatically.

I've forgotten but in a new install of XP-Pro,SP2 using NTFS on C: I don't have the Security Tab when I right click on a folder to setup sharing. I want this so I can set Permissions, etc. I have it on my other PC set up the same way but for some reason I don't on this new install.
What am I doing wrong? My username is a member of the Andministrators group.
