I tried installing the latest security updates from microsoft 2 days ago.. One of them KB980218 refused to load at all after i tried 12 times.. after reading alot i read its because its NOT supported by my older version of Windows.. Im running Windows 5.1 i believe there are NOW waves in all my pages when im scrolling up or down in all my images. web pages. etc.. terrible waves like its having a hard time even scrolling.. the images are in waves..AND my Mc Affee virus scan gets to 788 files (20%) scanning and just stops.. wont complete a scan.
i have windows xp home edition. I recently got my computer back from being serviced and the way it scrolls down the page using the mouse is like it is "rolling" or "wavy" and I miss alot when trying to read any page. it is very annoying. I want to get it back to the old, standard way that I can just scroll down line by line. Does anyone know what I am talking about and can anyone suggest something to try to correct this.
When I operate the scroll bar, instead of a smooth scroll down or up the page, the scrolling occurs in jerks, making the page appear to "ripple". I am using windows XP. In addition, when I watch DVDs the crarity is not so good. It has only just started happening.
I have recently been given a processor by a friend who was having problems when trying to boot windows. It would get to the boot screen with the scrolling bar then freeze up. The friend said that when he booted in Linux he had no problems. I have a machine with a new MB and new memory in which I installed the processor.I booted from my Windows XP Pro Disk and did a full install. When finished the same thing happened, it would freeze when it got to the Windows screen with the scrolling bar.I do not know much about computers so assumed that if the processor was faulty the computer would not go through a windows install or work with Linux.
I know most people dont like dells but i have one. I have a dell dimension 8300 with P4 3.0, 1.5 gig ram, 120 gb hard drive, and 6800xt graphics card. I downloaded speed fan program just to see what it was like and it stopped responding. so i waited for it to "end now" and it wouldnt. i got impatient and shut the computer off manually with the button. i went to go turn it back on and the bios screen would load then the windows xp screen comes up with the scrolling blue bar. after that it goes to a black screen with no error messeges and no cursor.
Had been running XP Home for 2 years with NO UPDATES. Daughter brought it home and DAD decided to allow all the updates using Windows Update.Everything through SP1 installed fine, but SP2 choked.Computer was running well with SP1, so I forced my luck and allowed SP2 to be added. What a mistake. Now, when I boot it, after the Windows Splash screen with the scrolling dots starts, it chokes back to a black screen, an error message appears that is so transient that I can't read it - mostly 0x000000, but there's a 0x000008 in the bunch.
I've recently reistnalled XP and I'm experiencing weird problems when moving windows on the screen, or scrolling, everything is in slow motion.I can't play movies on full screen, and some games are poor in rendering. I have tried all the possible optimizations, but I believe the problem might be in the video card, when I tried to reinstall the video driver, I was told that the video card is not installed properly, but how could this be? I mean, I haven't touched the hardware, what am I supposed to do?
I have been experiencing intermittent bootup problems with Windows XP. When this happens, the XP splash screen appears(blue line scrolling) and then monitor loses signal and reboot occurs. This can cycle several times, even if I choose the option of starting Windows with last known configuration that worked. It always eventually loads and reports that Windows experienced a serious problem.
Right after Windows XP security update yesterday 1/21/2010 I found my computer was off. This was normal after an windows update. So I turned my computer back on and received an error message of "NTLDR is missing". After trying twice to re-boot, with the same error, upon checking my startup BIOS file I found the BIOS record had been altered to boot using the wrong hard disk.
I need help in removing "Security Update for Windows XP (KB905749)." I am having a problem with My Computer taking forever to load, my device manager being empty, and having to type in "http://" before everything in the internet. I have done extensive research into this and many other users are experiencing the exact same problem. They say to remove it from Add/Remove Programs via the Control Panel, and some have done this successfully, but the computer is saying "This update cannot be removed."
I was checking my system when I realised my win xp has not had any security patch updated since Feb 05! A closer check discovered that instead of auto updating as I had assumed, it failed. When I tried to update, it feedback:
Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer. To continue: Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended) Let me read about more steps that might be required to solve the problem
When I clicked the first one, it proceeded to download 100%, register 100% and then went back to the update page. I click "express" and it comes to the above error page again. Continues in this loop. Clicking the second option above brought me through endless useless "help" pages that seem to tell me nothing and offered no real solution.
My updates are set on notify and this update has downloaded but never installs and goes away. I have tried installing it many times but the yellow shield continues to pop back up saying it is there to be installed. This is on a fully up to date XP SP2 OS system, with Avast and is Spyware clean as well, on an older generic clone 600mhz AMD K6-III with 384MB Ram and plenty of hard disk space. Although it is a little slow and methodical it has never caused me any problems
i just updated my computer through windows update and 3 keep failing no matter what, can anyone give any info on the below updates and why they wont install?
Security Update for Windows XP (KB896423) Security Update for Windows XP (KB922819) Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express for Windows XP (KB923694)
This problem is now resolved: here is the fix that worked for me in case anyone else can use it. I tried a fix I found by Googling, applied it, and it did not work. This morning I called the Microsoft toll free number for Security issues (on their web site reached.Go into add remove programs and uninstall the msxml update kb945530. Close and go to windows update (start, all programs, near top of list). Click on express update: the update should now show on the list. Reinstall the update, then restart your computer. This worked for me and I hope it helps someone else who has the problem.
I was updating multiple WinXP Pro SP2 computers at the same time, and suddenly one of them failed during the update, and since then i cannot update cause the system always complains about a security certificate is out of sync with your time. And it suggest that I set the clock which is perfectly ok.Now the next thing I did was (the obvious) google 0x80072F8F (this was the error code winxp update gave to me. and after googling some I did the following1.Deleted the cache of IE 6 2.Made sure computer got no virus 3.Tried from safe mode (virus scan as well) 4. regsvr32 /s Softpub.dll 5. regsvr32 /s Mssip32.dll 6. regsvr32 /s Initpki.dll 7. regsvr32 /s Msxml3.dll 8. rebooted tried again
i have a hp pavilion 533w with 512 megs of ram and windows xp home w/sp2. the auto update has been downloading security updates now for 2 weeks but still is at 39% when that little yellow shield shows up in the tray.

I'm running XP Pro. Today I received a windows update notification (I have automatic updates set to inform me of available updates before installing). All the updates installed correctly except:Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP x86 (KB979909)and Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 Security Update for Windows 2000 and Windows XP (KB979906).A summary of the related knowledge base pages regarding the failed installations tells me to uninstall, then reinstall all versions of net framework on this machine. Then go back to the Windows Update web site to check once again for updates to the newly reinstalled net framework versions.

This update won't install and I had trouble once before...a long time ago... installing this update. I went to Google for a fix and on some forum a tech told me to un-install the ver. 2.0 that I have on there now...reboot...and then d/l the new update. I didn't bookmark the forum unfortuneately. Now, my system won't even allow me to un-install the old ver. 2.0 so I'm at a loss as to what to do. Does anyone know how to fix this
I applied the 7/13 security patches last night and when manually shutting down this morning, got the blue screen of death. Had to leave for work so not sure what will happen next, but I have had these before with previous security patches.
the blue screen blocks out everything! there is also a grey box that says "runtime error" at programC:windowsexplorer.exe. I shut down the computer twice and on the second time, when it came on it said "rage 128 v."
The computer would load with large icons and large screen. after that the windows security alert comes up. RIght now its doing a total system scan. It says 156 total objects infected. If i purchase the malwarebytes anti malware will that fix the security alert along with the blue screen error? Thank you guys in advance... o .. and i have read the other posts that is why im running the malware.. but if i need to know anything else
I made Internet Options back to the defaults. Now I get the "Security Information" screen which tells me that the page contains both secure and nonsecure items and asks if I want to display the nonsecure items.Does anyone know how I can turn this off??
Its making these icons appear that are either porn or these downloads to those trojan spyware things. There are two icons where the time is, a yellow yield sign and the red x and they just lead me to more of those sites, can someone help me get rid of them?
There are suddenly no options listed under the "Manage security settings for:" heading, just blank space, so I have no way to edit my Firewall, Antivirus or Windows Update settings from the Center. I opened services.msc and it shows the service started automatically.
I have reformatted by hardrive and blah however, in firefox and IE whenever I attempt to scroll down it goes all 'blocky' like a beast. Before I could just scroll nice and smoothly. Now its like an earthquake each time I do.
