View 1 Replies View RelatedI copied a large directory to a backup drive, preparing to replace the HD on which the directory currently exists. After copying, the "size" of source and target both match:7.14 GB (7,673,318,222 bytes). The number of files and folders match as well. However, the "size on disk" does NOT match. On the source drive:7.24 GB (7,783,518,208 bytes)On the external (target) drive:8.21 GB (8,821,047,296 bytes) Is this a problem? Should I be concerned that the copy was not completed correctly?

View 2 Replies View Related"Floppy Disk not Recognized in Clean Install"
I am attempting a clean installation of Windows XP on a new disk. I have 3rd party drivers to install but the system at this step fails to recognize the floppy drive. At least it fails to respond to the F6 > S > 'Insert ... floppy disk ...' sequence. The drive is required for the floppy disks on which the drivers are located.
Is there a way around this, putting them on a CD or USB since some computers are coming now without floppy disks.
BTW the floppy drives works with an Alt. Boot using Win 2K Pro
My USB flash disk is no longer recognized by XP on my Toshiba laptop, nor is my USD card reader, and it will not allow me to even install it although I have the driver disk. I have tried downloading drivers from MSN, service packs, gone through set up in the device manager, EVERYTHING! My flash disk works on every other computer but mine. I did get a couple of trojans, but I deleted them with MCafee and cleaned them as well.
View 14 Replies View RelatedThere was a power outage at my house yesterday while I was away. When I came home my computer screen was black and displayed the message: boot disk error, insert system disk and press enter.
I tried rebooting but the message persisted (after going through the initial information about IDE stuff). I went into the bios to see if my hard drive was dead, but the bios still recognized it and my secondary hard drive. I also tried to boot from a Window XP cd and repair Windows on my master drive, but the error message came up regardless of the cd drive I used I have a CD drive and a CDRW/DVD drive. In both instances where I had the CD in one of the two CD drives, the CD was spinning and presumably being read) but I could never get the computer to boot off of it. (Note: I tried both CD drives, because my bios is set to boot off CD first, although I don't know which CD drive it actually looks at first
i have a 20 gig hd (maxtor) that is not showing in windows xp. the drive is NTFS and is fine and does show in cmos but once loaded into windows it is not there. i had the drive previously in another system as a slave only for mp3's. It was formatted NTFS prior to transferring mp3's to it. Now i've tried it as both master and slave to get the files off but am now having this problem of windows not seeing it when i go into windows explorer

I have bought the current hard disk one month back due to failure of the previous one. Both are of Seagate. My PC stuck up suddenly while working with the noise from hard disk ( clicking noise ) When I restarts the PC the PC stops booting after the BIOS screen with the error messages like "unable to load OS" or "disk not found". If I remove and replace the hard disk connection, it works normally. But, the PC stuck up after 1 day or after few hours. I have performed the hard disk self tests with Seatools software from Seagate.
applications were running slow, having problems closing etc. I expected a virus problem, but NIS 2005 did not detect any viruses. This morning I attempted to boot the machine as usual, and I found that windows would not boot after repeated attempts in any mode. I borrowed a friends windows XP cd, i dont have mine on hand, and attempted to repair the installation. However, when it tried to copy files to the hard drive it said that it could not detect it.
Naturally, seeing this i assumed that the harddrive had gotten knocked around, bad power lead, etc. I made sure that the connecters were securely attached and booted again, repair etc, same problem. I believe that the problem lies with the configuration of using a PCI card to connect the hard drive to the motherboard. When its connected to the mother board, however, the boot agent wont run, saying that the "disk is not ready" or something to that extent.
Since XP Pro original doesn't recognize SATA HDs, is it workable to create a install CD using Original XP Pro CD and add in SP1a and slip-stream them together on a new machine having SATA HD?Will this allow XP to recognize the HD and use it well?Similarly, same idea regarding XP HD size limit of 127 Gigs pre SP1a?
Current HDs are so large. How to create such disk ((Tutorial link)?
I was wondering if it makes any sense to buy and install a SATA 300 controller to work with two WD SATA 300 drives. I kind of doubt I will achieve 300mb buffer to host transfers with only SATA 150 motherboard.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of msn m. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by Internet, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m.

It however is recognized as a drive and works fine on one laptop which has only USB 1.1 ports.I have tried separately powered USB hubs as well without success. It's not merely the monitor going black, it's a full system lockup. If I have streaming audio going, say, it will stop at the same time. The system is fully crashed. IDE light is on permanently until reset. Keyboard input is ineffective.
