Modem Does Not Fully Wake Up Computer
Jul 21, 2005
The Laptop is in power saving mode: turn off monitor after 10 min, turn off hard disk after 10 min, system standby after 10 min. Hibernatedisabled. 'Allow modem to bring the cmputer out of standby ' option is
checked.Nevertheless, when the modem receives a call it doesn't fully wakes up the laptop: the screen is blank. To fully wake up the computer after modem receives a call, I have to move the mouse or hit a button. It creates a problem when I dial into the laptop remotely and can't physically activate the screen by pushing a button or moving the mouse. The modem should remotely fully wake up the laptop when it receives the call

A Toshiba laptop, running XP Home, for about three months has been intermittently failing to wake up after stand by. At the time the failure occurs, I find the following two errors logged to Computer Management | System Tools | Event Viewer | System:
Source IPNATHLP Event 30005 User N/A
Source IPNATHLP Event 30009 User N/A
Does anyone have a clue on where to look for the source of this error?

System has always run well, until I noticed the CPU cooler fan had started to rattle. So I cleaned the heat sink fins, replaced the cooler fan, and fired her up. BUT after awhile, (usually 15-30 minutes), and after the screen saver has kicked in (5 min) the screen goes black, and the system will not respond. If I hit a key the HD light comes on, but that is about it. When I shut the system down, and try to reboot, I get absolutely nothing, no POST, nada. IF I let the system sit overnight, it will reboot the next morning. Checked in the BIOS hardware monitoring section, and CPU temp and speed never rise about 60 C, (shutdown is 110C). Checked Windows, and power scheme is set for nothing to shut down, ever (monitor, HD, etc), and its not set to hibernate. Problem did not occur until I opened the case and replace the CPU cooler fan.

All of a sudden without making any changes my computer won't wake up when I move the mouse. I restored the computer to before it happened but it didn't help. Anybody got any ideas as to what the problem might be.

I have an issue with waking my computer up. I should be able to wake it up from standby with a mouse click. It says so in BIOS, and it works in Vista. It does not work, however, in XP.

1. I have two versions of 'Hijack This' on my computer, though every time I click either one of them, its like my computer closes them before they fully load. It happens in both safe mode and regular mode. It's as if the computer knows that Im about to take care of what is wrong and closes them.

my sister tried to get on the internet today (we have dialup - modem connection) but it wouldnt go.After a bit of tinkering around, I discovered her modem isnt even being recognized by her PC, that is, on the list of installed hardware theres no "modem" sub-list at all.Its always worked until now, there hasent been any major changes to the system, and the modem is still installed and secured properly.I THINK it may be caused by a virus, I done a virus scan on her PC with RemoveIT Pro, and there were 3 viruses, I removed them hoping it would help, but it didnt. I also done a system restore to an earlier time, didnt help. This happened to my PC a few times before, and the only way I could fix it was to do a whole system recovery...but I cant find my sisters recovery disc anywhere, and I dont have a Windows XP CD for a clean install or anything, so I thought about seeing if I could activate her modem in the BIOS, but her PC is diffrent than mine and I cant seem to find it (pushing F1/other buttons while its starting up dosent do anything)

I'm probably going to sound like a newbie, but here goes. The computer shop recently formatted my computer and installed Windows XP Home with SP2, anyway when I got my computer back I was missing a modem which according to a printout I had done previously was a HSP56 MR.I called this shop to ask them why they had removed this modem when all that was asked of them was to format and install Windows XP Home on my computer. They had removed this without my permission.Their excuse for doing this was that the modem was virtually useless because the XP Home with SP2 rendered it incompatible? And that most ISP's don't even recognize them anymore? This from the very same computer shop who sold me a computer with a pirated version of XP.

I have a computer that is linked to a linksys wireless router by a wireless ethernet bridge. My internet was working properly until a couple of weeks ago when it just stopped working. My internet connection says imited or no connectivity and packets are only being sent not recieved. I have connected my computer directly to the modem so it is not going through the linksys hardware at all and there is still no connection. I have checked all of my computers hardware and it says everything is working properly. Also I have made sure all the drivers are updated and working properly.

Problems started to occure on March 18,2007.
I load up my pc like normal. My McAfee had a strange error come up, it said "McAfee Security Center:Your computer is not fully protected". So I clicked it. I try to configure it so that I could get my suite working. Well nothing happened. I pressed auto fix, and it wouldnt work. So the security suite said that i should do a re-install.
I completely removed it through add/remove programs. And tried to do a re install using my disc. It then said that the spam protection would load. Now everytime i try to load my security center, nothing shows. It just sits there.. Well now tonight at 10:59 on March 19 everything went down the hell hole. Now I figured that I was not the only person with this error so I actually found a post

I tried to do what was on the list.
Well what a thing happened. I now can't load any exe, or use and lnk file. It asks me to either choose from list, or search the net. I am in a sticky situation. I can't load regedit, I can't use system restore. I tried to use my dell operating system disc. to reinstall or go to a system restore point by loading up the disc. Well nothing is working, the only thing I can access properly are my flash games, and the internet, by using any address bar.

Greetings. This subject has been well discussed but I haven't seen this particular problem. Hibernate has been working fine on my fairly state of the art PC (WinXP up-to-date, nothing changed, added or removed recently) for ages. Suddenly, on wakeup, it gets to desktop, icons and taskbar and bye bye, shuts down. Just once it has hung before the icons and taskbar phase.

In windows 98 there was a place in scheduled tasks where you could check a box that said someting on the order of "wake the machine to perform this task". I am wanting set my HDDs to spin down when they aren't in use but I have tasks scheduled to run when I am not around. Will XP wake the machine and run Norton and Diskeeper? Yes, after running XP all this time I still don't know it like I should. I mean I learned 2 OS's before this and I figure by the time I figure this one out Longhorn will show up and start me over again.

My HP OfficeJet R40xi works just fine when I boot up or re-boot my desktop PC, but if I've shutdown to "hibernate" or "standby" I consistently get a "This document failed to print" error message. This problem started after I installed the SP-2 patch. I've double checked my parallel port settings in system BIOS and Device Manager and I've removed & reinstalled the driver but so far haven't found a solution.

I entered my XP run PC into standby yesterday but as it would not resume later, I turned it off using the power button. Now it won't wake up again. I have been sitting in front of a blank screen for 3 hours. The monitor displays "no video signal", so I exchanged monitors but the other one stays blank too. The pc appears to be running but will not boot. I have entered Windows CD to restore but it won't even boot that.

My sister has given me her used laptop, telling me if I can make it work, it's all mine. The problem is, it never fully loads the desktop. You can't click anything or do anything else. She has lost her XP disk so I can't restore the system. I tried booting up in Safe Mode, but it still freezes on the desktop I am completely clueless on what to do. Is there any software available that could boot from a disk and do something?

Specs: ASUS A8n-SLI 16 Deluxe, AMD 4200+X2 64 Dual Core, 250GB WD SATA drive, 2GB corsair 3200c2. I am thinking of just turning acpi off and then putting it back on once xp is on.
