Jan 11, 2009I'm trying to find the settings called "ModemRingOn" and "PME Wake Up Event" both in bios but i can't find them.where they are? Like under what options in bios?

Modem Does Not Fully Wake Up Computer
Jul 21, 2005The Laptop is in power saving mode: turn off monitor after 10 min,turn off hard disk after 10 min, system standby after 10 min. Hibernatedisabled. 'Allow modem to bring the cmputer out of standby ' option is
checked.Nevertheless, when the modem receives a call it doesn't fully wakes up the laptop: the screen is blank. To fully wake up the computer after modem receives a call, I have to move the mouse or hit a button. It creates a problem when I dial into the laptop remotely and can't physically activate the screen by pushing a button or moving the mouse. The modem should remotely fully wake up the laptop when it receives the call

Sep 2, 2005I've looked at it infrequently, and never could understand what I saw, but today there was something relatively new and scary:...Further info under help and support said an error was detected during a paging file operation. The word "disk" scared me, so I checked the entire Event Viewer, and found 25 of these errors, from Aug 1 2005 through Sep 3 2005. If this event was cataloged earlier, I don't know, because the Event Viewer only goes back to Aug 1. I checked System Restore for Aug 1, 2005 and found a couple of things; 1) an accidental MS "update" to NVIDIA GeForce4 MX driver 5.12 -- but we've had the 6.1.7.7 driver for a long time now. The 5.12 screws up the display resolution, big time. I reinstalled the 6.17; resolution is fine; but I'm wondering if this could have something to do with the Event 51 warning. Also, on that same date, something called Software Distribution Service 2.0 is listed three times, and I don't know why. I don't even know what it is. I've researched the web, and can't find anything that seems to apply -- other than potential for a hard drive crash. Just what I don't need. Meanwhile, the entire system is working extremely well; fast and smooth; no glitches or twitches that I can detect

Jun 30, 2006While viewing video files (contained in folders with over a Gig of contents) this message pops up in a small window: Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and has to close. You can send an Error Report to Microsoft. Then things close down, but everything comes back, except the folder of files that was open before.Then if I go to my "Event Veiwer" under Application I get the 2 Error lines with "event ID 1000 and 1001.

Aug 14, 2008once the on button was pushed, it came up with the BIOS screen asking for the password.I removed the CMOS battery, which allowed me to change the Password so I can get onto BIOS now. However, when I boot now it just comes up with the BIOS screen.I set HD to boot first, aswell as setting the clock and date. Oct 21, 2009I have had windows XP Pro installed, updated and running fine until about a week ago. I was away from home for about a week and left the machine plugged into the mains but powered down. When I returned home to boot up, it kept doing things like constantly hanging on parts of the bios POST screen, eventually booting up after thirty or so complete restarts. It finally booted into windows but after the last shutting down, it will now not boot up at all. I have replaced the bios battery and reset the bios several times.

PC Wake After Standby/hibernation
Aug 23, 2009Windows XP Media center. The power button turned orange and will not restart by system. I have shut off the power bar and turned it back on. Pushed the power button and still have the orange light. The system will not even attempt to restart.

Jan 15, 2007I deleted a file called svchost.exe because Norton said it was infected with a virus. I use WinXP sp2. Aug 10, 2006Got a bit of a problem with my housemates pc.A friend gave him some extra RAM, i checked it out and it was crucial 512mb pc2100 CL2.5, and although it didn't match his exsisting RAM it seemed to me that his mobo would only run the FSB at 200mhz anyway so i went ahead and fitted it.It worked fine I then noticed his system temp was running a little high (60-65 degrees), so i took his heatsink off and cleaned the dust and refitted it with some new thermal compound.I added too much and the temp went up. To nearly 90 degrees.I shut it dwon as i didn't want the cpu to pop, cleaned it off, reapplied less compound and figured this would work fine.Now we have the problem. Most of the time: Power on and nothing happens. No bios, no beeps. Occasionally: Power on, i jump into the bios, the temp looks fine (30-40 degrees) and then it freezes right there in the bios after about 30 seconds to a minute.This sounds like a heat issue, but the last temp reading before freeze is 33 degrees.?I've double and triple checked that the heatsink is on properly and thats fine. I followed the official guide on how much compound to use (a blob the size of an uncooked short grain of rice).

Aug 6, 2008System has always run well, until I noticed the CPU cooler fan had started to rattle. So I cleaned the heat sink fins, replaced the cooler fan, and fired her up. BUT after awhile, (usually 15-30 minutes), and after the screen saver has kicked in (5 min) the screen goes black, and the system will not respond. If I hit a key the HD light comes on, but that is about it. When I shut the system down, and try to reboot, I get absolutely nothing, no POST, nada. IF I let the system sit overnight, it will reboot the next morning. Checked in the BIOS hardware monitoring section, and CPU temp and speed never rise about 60 C, (shutdown is 110C). Checked Windows, and power scheme is set for nothing to shut down, ever (monitor, HD, etc), and it�s not set to hibernate. Problem did not occur until I opened the case and replace the CPU cooler fan.

Sep 12, 2006I know that most of us have had a dll issue at some time or another. However, with xp pro, I have been lucky enough not to have any at all.
A pc has been cursed with dllhell, so please suggest any ideas/solutions.
Before xp pro has finished booting (which takes ages anyway) the following message appears:-
'the ordinal 6663 could not be located in dll mfc42.dll' (related to launapp)
A possibly related issue to this is that some strange things happen with the system (windows explorer crashes and restarts if some programs are opened, or if I access the external usb disc drive. It makes sense to deal with one problem at a time.
