MBR Is Still Recognized As A System Disk

Sep 10, 2005

What happens with the MBR on a disk which was used before as system disk and has not been formatted, but only files deleted. Is it still recognized as a system disk?

Floppy Disk Not Recognized In Clean Install

Oct 3, 2009

"Floppy Disk not Recognized in Clean Install"

I am attempting a clean installation of Windows XP on a new disk. I have 3rd party drivers to install but the system at this step fails to recognize the floppy drive. At least it fails to respond to the F6 > S > 'Insert ... floppy disk ...' sequence. The drive is required for the floppy disks on which the drivers are located.

Is there a way around this, putting them on a CD or USB since some computers are coming now without floppy disks.

BTW the floppy drives works with an Alt. Boot using Win 2K Pro

USB Flash Disk USD Card No Longer Recognized

Feb 7, 2007

My USB flash disk is no longer recognized by XP on my Toshiba laptop, nor is my USD card reader, and it will not allow me to even install it although I have the driver disk. I have tried downloading drivers from MSN, service packs, gone through set up in the device manager, EVERYTHING! My flash disk works on every other computer but mine. I did get a couple of trojans, but I deleted them with MCafee and cleaned them as well.

Boot Disk Error, Bios Still Recognized

Nov 3, 2008

There was a power outage at my house yesterday while I was away. When I came home my computer screen was black and displayed the message: boot disk error, insert system disk and press enter.

I tried rebooting but the message persisted (after going through the initial information about IDE stuff). I went into the bios to see if my hard drive was dead, but the bios still recognized it and my secondary hard drive. I also tried to boot from a Window XP cd and repair Windows on my master drive, but the error message came up regardless of the cd drive I used I have a CD drive and a CDRW/DVD drive. In both instances where I had the CD in one of the two CD drives, the CD was spinning and presumably being read) but I could never get the computer to boot off of it. (Note: I tried both CD drives, because my bios is set to boot off CD first, although I don't know which CD drive it actually looks at first

PC Stuck Up And Hard Disk Not Recognized - Limited Account Not Working

Oct 28, 2009

Issue 1 :
I have bought the current hard disk one month back due to failure of the previous one. Both are of Seagate. My PC stuck up suddenly while working with the noise from hard disk ( clicking noise ) When I restarts the PC the PC stops booting after the BIOS screen with the error messages like "unable to load OS" or "disk not found". If I remove and replace the hard disk connection, it works normally. But, the PC stuck up after 1 day or after few hours. I have performed the hard disk self tests with Seatools software from Seagate.

Boot Failure: No Virus/ Hard Disk Not Recognized/ No Safe Mode?

May 18, 2005

applications were running slow, having problems closing etc. I expected a virus problem, but NIS 2005 did not detect any viruses. This morning I attempted to boot the machine as usual, and I found that windows would not boot after repeated attempts in any mode. I borrowed a friends windows XP cd, i dont have mine on hand, and attempted to repair the installation. However, when it tried to copy files to the hard drive it said that it could not detect it.

Naturally, seeing this i assumed that the harddrive had gotten knocked around, bad power lead, etc. I made sure that the connecters were securely attached and booted again, repair etc, same problem. I believe that the problem lies with the configuration of using a PCI card to connect the hard drive to the motherboard. When its connected to the mother board, however, the boot agent wont run, saying that the "disk is not ready" or something to that extent.

System Isn't Recognized CD Drive

Jun 22, 2005

I'm now praying that this will get fixed--my computer isn't recognizing any cd's I put in my d drive. It won't show up anywhere and when I go to my device manager there's a red x on top of the cd icon. I don't have any viruses or anything-I've run everything- and I've tried unplugging some of the wires and replugging them. I don't even know what that;s suposed to do or which wire is which. If anyone can help I would be soooooo grateful. my dad'll blame this on me if it doesnt get fixed asap. I have windows xp. and when I type in D:/ into run, I get the message:

D:/ refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it stil cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location.

System Recognized No Drive

Feb 20, 2007

I've got a IBM ThinkCenter that just won't boot. It powers on just fine, and I even tried installing a brand new power supply, so power isn't the problem. When I turn it on, I almost immediately get the IBM and Intel logos on screen but that's all. The machine does not seem to try to read from the hard drive, CD ROM or A drive. It never allows me to enter the BIOS or try to start Windows. I'm not even sure if the keyboard and mouse are being recognized. Is this a hardware problem? if so what? or can I still get this thing to boot somehow?

Running Norton Speed Disk Repaired By Check Disk - Shutting Down System

Sep 14, 2005

For a whole month now I have carefully set up the new notebook described below after successfully, but laboriously, running a 1997 Dell PII300-SCSI 128-SDRAM Win98SE system for 8 years. I've now reached a point where I need help on several issues from some of you who are far ahead of me when it comes to running a modern system. There are no major problems so far, just some minor performance issues and a few questions in areas in which I know little or nothing.

One instance of a freeze (when running Norton Speed Disk) which turned out to be a bad cluster and was repaired by ChkDsk. One instance of stalling @ the "windows is shutting down" window (shutdown only). There have been two instances of noticeable decline in peak performance: A.) after installing Norton System Works. I immediately uninstalled Go Back, which really helped, and B.) after replacing one of the installed 256mb sticks of RAM with a 1GB stick from Crucial. I only mention this because I deliberately delayed installation until maximium system performance had been consistently sustained. [This is nothing major, just a slight delay and/or menus briefly going blank when starting some programs and a slight delay in application reaction time, which usually manifests itself at the start of sessions, and late sluggishness in long sessions] I only mention this in the event that I'm wrong and can be corrected, because I believe this must be a coincidence and not due to the hardware (unless there is a setting or something in Windows that needs changing to accommodate the additional RAM) - and the solution to regaining peak performance lies in Windows and/or Norton System Works....

USB External Drive Not Recognized Or "recognized" As An "unknown Device"?

Sep 1, 2005

I have a Sabrent SBT-EKU25 external enclosure with a 2.5 inch hard disk in it. This is a USB 2.0 drive and whenever I connect it to USB 2.0 port, it is not recognized (or "recognized" as an unknown device" ) on all my machines. It however is recognized as a drive and works fine on one laptop which has only USB 1.1 ports.I have tried separately powered USB hubs as well without success. So I don't think it's a power issue.I have even tried deleting all USB devices in Device Manager and let the machine rediscover them.

Home 32 Bit - OS Disk And System Disk

Jun 17, 2008

I recently re-installed an old copy (4 years) of winxp home 32 bit (after my sp2 disks were giving me trouble.) There are 3 320gb hd's and 2 36gb raptors. I actually chose to install winxp home on one of the 320's but a couple of odd (to me) things happened. First, it formatted the 320's into two partitions, 1 equal to the other. I did not notice this at the time (I was in a hurry.) My winxp pro sp2 disks never did this. Second, it installed winxp on c: as I wanted but then it has "(System)" on e: (another 320gb split in two.) I found this in the disk management section.Frankly it runs great, but there are no files to be seen on the e: drive. I back up my c: drive regularly and I am wanting to know if something will be amiss with the backup because that (System) disk is on e?I've just never seen this "(System)" disk thing before.

Restore Disk And System Disk - Are They The Same

I recently had to move up to WinXP Home on a Compaq Presario after saying goodbye to my trusty Packard Bell running Win95a.My WinXP Home came preinstalled on the computer and I had no WinXP Home CD Disk as a backup. I contacted Compaq and they immediately sent me a set of Backup Disks in case the 'System Restore' on the computer wasn't available for one reason or the other.I have yet to put them into the computer to see what they consist of. I am not experiencing any problems and I don't want to create any by doing something I am not sure of.I am just curious is this set of disks is what I would use if I had to reinstall WinXP Home?
