I'm trying to install a game from a CD and there is an error message which sais," Setup is unable to locate a file it needs to continue. Please make sure the CD-ROM is in the drive and press retry to continue." I click on retry and the error message keeps on appearing.How do I solve this problem?

Re-installing a game, Enigma: Rising Tide I receive this error message. This happened one time before. I don't recall how I was able to overcome, but presently I had to re-install the game and now I have this error message again. I understand that there have been other instances with others installing games where this message appears.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi have a 250GB Hard Drive and I used Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Tools 11 Tools to allow Windows to recognize all 250GB and break the 24-bit barrier. When I install Windows XP Pro, it goes through the format and the file setup fine (as far as I know) and then when it goes to boot, it goes right back into the Setup Config...it doesn't go on to install Windows. When the disk is taken out it just continually restarts and claims that there is an invalid BOOT.INI.

When I have the disc in, it loads to the blue install screen without asking me to press a key to boot from cd, I choose to install, partition the drive and format. It copies the files and then restarts, but when it loads again it still doesn't ask for me to press a key (which you aren't supposed to press the second time), and it loads back to the first menu, where I can start all over again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMan, my computer for the last two weeks have been crashing like an emo. I mean, when I play GTA: San Adreas, in 20 minutes, I get a BSOD with a stop error. When I put hardware acceleration to full, in a half an hour, I get a BSOD with a similar error. Believe me, I got three kinds of errors, and some were from different time. I believe the problem either came from the either the PSU, new 512 mb of ram, old 512, CPU, system board, or the graphic card. I'll try to post the error as best as I can. I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one.
When I'm trying to start up Windows XP Home Edition I receive an error box without an error message, I can just click YES or NO. Neither option let's me continue. When starting up in Safe Mode, everything works fine.

When I close the box, i lose my desktop, and can't run a bunch of programs, including the "run" option. I am able to run my browsers and get on the web. However when I close the error message it keeps popping up every 20 seconds or so. When I went to microsofts website that told me that service pack 2 was installed on my pc. ive tried using 2 different type of memory on the m-board and still get the same error.
there are no other hardware besides a cdrom and hdisk, mosue and keyboard. i did have an old logitech mouse but swapped that as i read that can cause problems too.
i dont know how to go about fixing this as their is a hotfix for acpi problems but thatr equires u to actually have windows on teh pc in teh first place i.e safe mode.
i can get into bios and it performs POST no problems. the only other thing is it boots fromcdrom but it says no emulation.

First of all this occur cause i was trying to install NET FRAMEWORK 3.0 on my computer but the instalation never ended and it give me some errors, so i uninstall every version of the program trying to reinstall them again (i read this may be a solution (i use add/remove programs and a clean up tool specified for removing net framework)), first i try installing 1.0, but a message says that i already have it installed, then 1.1 which i could install fine, then the SP1 for 1.1 says that i need version 2.0.5556 in order to install this service pack, then i try to install 2.0 but an incompatibility error appears referring that i may have installed " framework 2.0 sp1" (wich i don�t), then i try installing 2.0 sp1 but i get a "setup error" nothing else, same when trying with 3.0.
i have try different things like starting/stopping msiexec (on safe mode), installing and removing net framework several times or trying to install IIS (wich i couldn't cause i dont have the original windows cd) as possible solutions, but this problem is driving me crazy! Is there a solution like uninstalling all, installing all again without format? i think it maybe has something to do with file extensions missing, i read something about MSI files, but im not share.
