I grant specific users both the shared permissions and advanced permissions. they can see the folder and access the folders. but they cannot modify them. It says "access denied". I verified that the permissions were not propogating from the parent folder also. Everything that i see says it should work, but it doesnt. iThe only thing i got to work was giving the user full rights to the above folder..which is for all to share but not to modify.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRunning XP on a Sony PVC-RX770 (3 years old). I can never get to a secure site. Message says to re-set security levels which I have done over and over. I have tried restoring system to earlier times with negative results. Sony did not help. I can't even load Norton, buy things, see my bank statements, etc. Here may be a clue. I am sometimes told my system won't accept ActiveX code. I am also told I need to add a drive. I press continue and system runs OK (except the the security problem).
View 9 Replies View RelatedUsing XP sp2, trying to clear out some useless files on an external drive, no matter how many files I deleted it didn't make much change in space recovered then I checked the size of Windows Live One backup file,50 gig,(wow) that's 60% of the total drive space, while trying to delete it,I get the message "cannot delete DO_NOT_DELETE.mediaID: access denied" Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that file is not currently in use.

No matter what I try, including printing out all the help steps and doing them, it seems to be about to the half way point when I get a message that says 'Access is Denied' and it stops
installing.

View 9 Replies View RelatedLong story short here. Running Windows XP Home Edition. Previously had Microsoft Plus! Superpack for Windows XP installed (Movie Maker2 etc.) AND SP2. Everything worked fine. Then victimized by tons of spyware/adware that required I do a complete system restore. Totally fine now. In trying recently to reinstall the Plus! software, I was prompted to download Movie Maker2 from the MS site. Then discovered that to do that I had to update to SP2. Not a problem, I'd done it before without a hitch. Only this time I receive an error message "Access is denied," and it uninstalls itself. What gives?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running XP Pro, finally updating to SP2. About halfway through I get the "Access is denied" error message. I followed Microsoft's instructions to locate the registry subkey causing the problem, however (as shown in the attached picture) the problem isn't in the usual vnd.ms.radio (infact, that file isn't mentioned at all in the setupapi file), but in the DependOnService. Problem is, it doesn't exist under the directories listed. As shown in the second uploaded picture, it's not in the SSDPSRV directory itself, and the only subdirectories are a pyramid of jibberish (none of which contain anything except a "(Default)" value).
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Optiplex GX270 with Windows XP Professional SP2.In the past,I've installed device drivers for scanners, external DVD drives, modems, software, etc. I'm currently having trouble installing a device driver for an 802.11g PCI card. The hardware is found by the "Found New Hardware Wizard", but fails to install with "Error 5: Access is denied" the setupapi log shows that it couldn't properly write to the registry. My account has Administrator privileges. I've tried to completely uninstall and reinstall the driver, and the same fault occurs. Obviously, every time the machine boots, the same problem cycles through again.I've been trying to resolve this with the vendor, who is probably just as confused as me, because it looks to be an issue with the OS.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy XP home edition recently crashed and I wasn't able to get it back up and running with the recovery disc. I ended up using another hard drive and installing XP Pro. I now have the original drive connected as a slave drive but I am unable to access the files I had in Documents and Settings under my user name. It gives me an "access denied" message when I try and open anything under user. When I try to transfer the files with the File Transfer Wizard, the folder comes up blank, but I know the files are there, one of the steps of selecting the files, shows them all there, but even when I select the files individually and transfer them to the C drive with the file wizard, they are not there.

The username and password on my new system are the as on the old one. Any ideas on how to get access to that folder?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have two computers, on one computer there is a irrepairable version of windows, and I still had some files I wanted to save. So I bought a hard drive enclosure so I could transfer the files onto my laptop, the one I'm using right now. However I used to have a password for my account, and my files were marked private. Now when I try to go into those files, it says 'Access Denied' I was wondering if there was anyway to go around this obstacle, those files are needed.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI did a terrible mistake today. Typically I install XP in C drive and keep My Documents folder in D drive. All of my hard disk drives (except the linux partitions) are NTFS. I encrypted the My Documents folder and all of its files and subfolders.Today I reinstalled XP in the C drive, after a quick format on it. I was unaware of the fact that what might be happened to My Documents folder. Now I can only view the files and folders inside My Documents folder. Neither I open any file, nor I decrypt those files. Windows is saying access denied.
View 9 Replies View Relatedwe installed the Microsoft Fax process on an XP Pro PC. It is setup only to send faxes and works great most of the time. However, every once in awhile, it will stop sending faxes even though there are faxes still showing in the Outbox of the Fax Console and Fax Monitor shows Ready to send. What we do see in the Fax Monitor's more>> window is that the last fax said that the fax did not answer, fax was cancelled after about 5 minutes of sitting there trying and it requeued the fax. It then shows a message of Fax Device Error. There is nothing in the Event Logs showing that there is a device problem. Looking at the Printers and Faxes in the Control Panel show the Fax is Ready.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been catching up on all the forums and have come across 2 differant comments stating WeatherBug is loaded with spyware. That kinda concerns me a little, cuz I'v been using it for the last 3 years, only because the school right across the street from me is the closest reporting station and it's kinda like having your own weather station right in your front yard. One of the comments said the spyware problem was not hard to track or find, but I'v never heard this before and can't find anything about it. Would somebody elaborate,or send me a link to more info?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI ran a new tweak called Process Monitor, and the last statement on the "process tree" was "rundll32.exe" I looked on the internet and it said that this could possibly be a spyware tracking me, but it has a microsoft name applied to it. Can you tell me if I should delete this or not? It has 500 or so records (dll's I'm assuming) attached to it. When I run CCleaner, my firewall (kerio) asks that rundll32.exe wants to execute.
