Installed SP 3 on my neighbor's XP machine and the internet didn't work.So I removed it. Internet still didn't work. So I rolled it back to before the SP3 installation using system restore (oddly there was only one restore point, and that was just before the SP3 installation (I think Windows did that as part of the install).
View 9 RepliesWhen I was reformatting my computer i deleted a part of my drive that i think was really important. It was drive E:. After the reformatting I tried to go on the internet. I tried to go on wireless but, I didn't have a wireless internet icon for my wireless card so I plugged it in. Still i could not go on the Internet. Then I tried to open some programs and half of them would load the others I would get error reports from. I think the reason it doesn't work is because of the drive I accidently deleted. Is there any way that I could get the data back without taking it to a repair shop?

View 14 Replies View Relatedmy cable is not working properly.Every 15-20 minutes my internet connection is broken even though the modem is online and there is no problem with the cable coming into my house. I have to reset the cable modem and then it works for another 10-20 minutes until the next cut. Ive had this problem before (last time i changed computers) but cant remember how it was resolved. I already talked to my ISP support but these guys are brain damaged or something and cannot even comprehend my problem and all 3 actually concluded that i had somehow contracted some killer virus immediately after connecting my computer and this virus was the root of my problems
View 14 Replies View Relatedwe installed the Microsoft Fax process on an XP Pro PC. It is setup only to send faxes and works great most of the time. However, every once in awhile, it will stop sending faxes even though there are faxes still showing in the Outbox of the Fax Console and Fax Monitor shows Ready to send. What we do see in the Fax Monitor's more>> window is that the last fax said that the fax did not answer, fax was cancelled after about 5 minutes of sitting there trying and it requeued the fax. It then shows a message of Fax Device Error.There is nothing in the Event Logs showing that there is a device problem. Looking at the Printers and Faxes in the Control Panel show the Fax is Ready.

That kinda concerns me a little, cuz I'v been using it for the last 3 years, only because the school right across the street from me is the closest reporting station and it's kinda like having your own weather station right in your front yard. One of the comments said the spyware problem was not hard to track or find, but I'v never heard this before and can't find anything about it. Would somebody elaborate,or send me a link to more info?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI ran a new tweak called Process Monitor, and the last statement on the "process tree" was "rundll32.exe" I looked on the internet and it said that this could possibly be a spyware tracking me, but it has a microsoft name applied to it. Can you tell me if I should delete this or not? It has 500 or so records (dll's I'm assuming) attached to it. When I run CCleaner, my firewall (kerio) asks that rundll32.exe wants to execute.

to create their dialup connection to the internet, I couldn't.I went into the 'Internet Connection Wizard'. Told it that I was connecting directly to the internet. Then I told it I was going to set up the connection manually. But whenever the option comes up to setup a dial-up or broadband connection, the dial-up option is greyed out and unselectable.In device manager, it shows my modem as being fine. It's installed with no conflicts.
I have just installed a Samsung CLX-2160 on my Dell Dimension 5150 PC,which runs Windows XP Media Centre.As soon as the PC started reading the installation CD, it crashed with the following (taken from event viewer):The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.The bugcheck was: 0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0x804f106f, 0xba4fbaac, 0xba4fb7a8). A dump was saved in: C:WINDOWSMEMORY.DMP.
I rebooted with F8 and chose last working config.After a little enlightened guesswork and advice I removed my old Dell 725 printer driver(which had started giving an error message on startup). Now I could load the Samsung driver etc and the new printer works.However, XP still crashes whenever I reboot normally I can still bring up a working system with F8 as above (but I have to reload my PCI card drivers again - 2 port serial and sound card - for some reason)
I got a Toshiba with windows XP.. Its an older laptop and runs slow.. which is fine for what i need it for.. It is connected through a Dlink Cable modem. Recently moved and had a DSL connection of 3 years no problems. Had to switch to cable broadband. The lights all light up solid no problem. Network cable connected to no problem. Problem : NO internet
Unplug netowkr cable from cable modem (get the network cabled unplugged in windows, so it is seing the modem or atleast talking to it)Tried using the windows xp network srtup wizard. I did that hub one (connected thourhg a hub) and i tried the direct connection (goes from modem to computer).
After long periods of my internet connection being idle (2+ hours usually), all programs requiring internet access are unable to connect. By idle I mean I leave to run some errands with no programs other than Zone Alarm running. My DSL modem still has all lights flashing and active. There are a couple other scenarios where this occurs as well. Ex. I'm playing WoW for extended periods but not using the internet through any other program, then upon alt-tabbing no other applications are able to connect to the internet even though WoW is still connected and functioning. Rebooting the router/modem doesn't fix it, but rebooting the comp does.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently go tthe new comp and then ran into some errors when downloading off the internet, Files turn corrupt most of the time on IE or Firefox and other times it might want to work, Downloading the install for Winamp is one which will corrupt every time no matter how I try it, check for virus's, spyware, turn everything else off, turn off the firewall and I've done all that and still haven't gotten anything. I've been told I should try and update my bios but I know that could only cause more problems in certain cases, Even when trying the asus auto update it says that it couldn't uncompress it. One of the classic errors is" NSIS error, The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or virus. It may be possible to skip this check using /NCRC command line switch(Not recommended )". As well as say if any torrents that I get bit comet says it's corrupt and ones that work in the regular bittorrent downloader go at trash speeds, router I was on was set up before this so it should still be good. I hope this is enough information, if more is needed I'd be happy to tell you. I also cleaned the regestry and checked for viruses and malware as well as anything else I could think of.

Everything was fine until a few days ago when my connection speed dramatically slowed after being online for a few hours. This happens to all of the PCs in my home - so it's nothing internal to my PC. I tried to transfer a large file across the wireless network and it transferred fine (5Mb in 10 seconds). I can also connect to the router's web management software without problem. So it's not the wireless connection. Which leaves either my modem/router or my broadband connection. The router's "DSL" light is always on which infers that my broadband connection is OK. So that leaves my modem/router.
I recently 'upgraded' the family computer (running XP pro) with SP2.we've had a number of problems with programs no longer working after the upgrade. More specifically, Internet Explorer, Outlook, Norton, and HP Precisionscan Pro 3.1 (to name a few) are causing us grief.Outlook will load, but as soon as you try and view a new message, the program crashes.Internet Explorer will open, but immediately closes before any page can load. (I've installed Firefox in the meantime, so I'm sure it's not the internet connection).

But after heading over to dell's site, downloading all of the drivers for her computer and then installing them, i STILL do not have any internet. I don't see any connections on the computer either, it's just blank!

However, since the install i have been unable to establish a continuous connection. It starts and stops for no reason at all. I have been online and it loses connection saying there is no dial tone. It's been coming on slowly, but my connection to the internet, via internet explorer is extremely slow. I also experience long waits opeing new windows, or attachments from a site, as well as rply and fwd on E-mail. Once connected moving from site to site is normal speed, but as stated other openings take up to 2-3 minutes to connect. My ISP says my connection is fine, but I do get a connectivity icon on occasion, causing me to click repair, and it goes away.

I have my internet connected threw USB dirctly to my modem. Then i have my crossover cable plug into my Xbox and the other end in my ethernet port.. And when i trying to bridge the connections i get a error on my xbox something about the DNS sever i try to fix that but i think its because I am not sharing my internet connection.. However when i went to view all network connections, there wasn't any connection icon there. SO, i created a new connection and the computer asked for a restart to complete the process.
