Gotta type this quick before internet goes off.Modem on, but when I turn pc on internet goes off intermittently, sometimes on a minute, sometimes half an hour, then suddenly, "Local Area Connection, A Network Cable is Unplugged", wait half an hour and it comes on again ( sometimes). Also im closing (shutting down pc, and before it shuts down it restarts without any prompting..
my cable is not working properly.Every 15-20 minutes my internet connection is broken even though the modem is online and there is no problem with the cable coming into my house. I have to reset the cable modem and then it works for another 10-20 minutes until the next cut. Ive had this problem before (last time i changed computers) but cant remember how it was resolved. I already talked to my ISP support but these guys are brain damaged or something and cannot even comprehend my problem and all 3 actually concluded that i had somehow contracted some killer virus immediately after connecting my computer and this virus was the root of my problems
I recently reinstalled Windows XP Home on a friends computer, but when I went to create their dialup connection to the internet, I couldn't.I went into the 'Internet Connection Wizard'. Told it that I was connecting directly to the internet. Then I told it I was going to set up the connection manually. But whenever the option comes up to setup a dial-up or broadband connection, the dial-up option is greyed out and unselectable. In device manager, it shows my modem as being fine. It's installed with no conflicts.
I got a Toshiba with windows XP.. Its an older laptop and runs slow.. which is fine for what i need it for.. It is connected through a Dlink Cable modem. Recently moved and had a DSL connection of 3 years no problems. Had to switch to cable broadband. The lights all light up solid no problem. Network cable connected to no problem. Problem : NO internet
Unplug netowkr cable from cable modem (get the network cabled unplugged in windows, so it is seing the modem or atleast talking to it)Tried using the windows xp network srtup wizard. I did that hub one (connected thourhg a hub) and i tried the direct connection (goes from modem to computer).
After long periods of my internet connection being idle (2+ hours usually), all programs requiring internet access are unable to connect. By idle I mean I leave to run some errands with no programs other than Zone Alarm running. My DSL modem still has all lights flashing and active. There are a couple other scenarios where this occurs as well. Ex. I'm playing WoW for extended periods but not using the internet through any other program, then upon alt-tabbing no other applications are able to connect to the internet even though WoW is still connected and functioning. Rebooting the router/modem doesn't fix it, but rebooting the comp does.
I have a number of XP computers (all SP2) connected to the Net via a wireless modem/router. Everything was fine until a few days ago when my connection speed dramatically slowed after being online for a few hours. This happens to all of the PCs in my home - so it's nothing internal to my PC. I tried to transfer a large file across the wireless network and it transferred fine (5Mb in 10 seconds). I can also connect to the router's web management software without problem. So it's not the wireless connection. Which leaves either my modem/router or my broadband connection. The router's "DSL" light is always on which infers that my broadband connection is OK. So that leaves my modem/router.
we have had the computer in question for about 3 or four years now, however starting approximately a year ago it started to do this weird thing where randomly the entire computer will completely freeze, if there is any sound playing at the time of the freeze the sound loops repetitively and this will continue until the computer is reset.I tried to see if there was any specific cause for it doing this but i can only say that it happens more often during more intense programs (Eg: I-Tunes, video games, more demanding browsers like Chrome and Opera) but it will crash on occasion while doing nothing or running less intense programs like Internet explorer or paint. I have done numerous checks for virusesadwaremalware and nothing comes up that ultimately fixes the problem when it is removed. I have done several scans for registry errors and still nothing fixes the problem, at one point i even used the windows boot disc to delete the registry and restore it back to default, which as you can guess did not fix the problem and mainly just left me with a huge headache.I have reset the Bios and that doesn't work. i found something relatively similar to the problem i was having which would suggest that my RAM is bad so i ran memtest but after 4 passes it came up with nothing.I used the vacuum cleaner to clean out the whole case and still no results.
My laptop is running XP SP2. There are two accounts created, one for myself and one for my partner. Both accounts have administrator privileges. Yesterday my partner was unable to login, as XP rejected every attempt with a "have you forgotten your password" balloon. I logged-in OK on my account, changed the password (but used the same value as before) on her account, then logged-out. This time she could log in OK. Same problem happened again this morning!! Once corrected as above, then she can login in/out without problem.
It is not the obvious things of finger-trouble, Caps Lock ON by mistake etc etc - checked all those. First time it occurred was shortly after a violent thunderstorm, so I wondered if electrical interference had caused a corruption somewhere, but everything else seems OK and there was not another storm this morning.
My old computer has a blue screen problem which is intermittent, and usually as it is loading windows, however can happen anytime. It is not a heat problem as it happens as well when the puter is completely cold and started. I ran Memtest for 2 cycles and there were not memory problems showing. I cleared the CMOS and installed a new BIOS battery after that and reset the BIOS to its previous settings. I am running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3; Board: MSI MS-6380E 1.0; 512 Megabytes Installed Memory [DDR]; 1566 megahertz AMD Athlon XP; Maxtor Hard Drive; RADEON 8500 SERIES [Display adapter]. My screen will suddenly go into Blue screen with the message Driver_IRQL_Not_less_or equal then Stop 0X000000D1 [0X00000004, 0X00000002, 0X00000001, 0X82F8839C] . The Blue screen will frequently then have wide lines appear across the screen so you cant read every line. I took out my video card and reinserted it. Does anyone know the code message translation to identify the area of fault?
About every 10 to 20 mouse clicks the click is not recognized by the system. This can occur for desktop clicks or in any application. The computer vendor suggests that I reinstall the operating system (XP) to correct the problem.
I need to upgrade my motherboard as I am getting intermittent faults with it. I run on Windows XP which was pre installed by TIME computers 3 years ago as a OEM operating system. As everyone knows they have gone bust. I obviously don't have a windows CD to repair the installation when I install the new motherboard.
I saw that COD 4 would not run on my exising vid card, and I ordered an upgrade. I bought and installed the 7800gs nvidia agp card works awesome. It plays oblivion on the ultra high settings sweet.Played with it for a couple of months before COd 4 came out played the cod 4 demo over and over.my system is origional at this point except for 2 things the vid card...and the ram.It came with a single kingston 512 valuram ship in slot my system is dual channel, but I did not know what that meant, so about a year and a half ago, I installed a second 512 chip,(a kbyte chip 512 mb from best buy) into slot 3. I have 4 slots total. It has ran with the ram configuration with no issues, and uses the 1 gb avail. anyway, after playing cod 4 single player twice, and having no computer issues at all the pc started to crash once and a while.
after installing software needed to remote access hospital, (ICA32, aventail) started to get blue screen of death.i disabled aventail automatically running at start up. still got blue screen.i restarted with last known good configuration and so far no blue screen.still, the restart takes too long (predates blue screen).
One of the most frustrating things to have with a computer is a slow internet connection and 56K is about as slow as it gets these days. I feel the pain that 56K users have and hope that by following this thread they can experience a faster more reliable internet connection. There are a few things that one must understand prior to tweaking their 56K connections. The first is that it is actually a 53.3K connection since that is the speed that the FCC limits you to, on top of that most dialup users actually connect in the 40,000 – 50,000K range, which is excellent by dialup standards.
I'm having a bit of trouble with my internet connection at home. I have recently reinstalled Windows XP home due to corruption of files but previous to that my internet connection did not work. However, since the install i have been unable to establish a continuous connection. It starts and stops for no reason at all. I have been online and it loses connection saying there is no dial tone. A connection can be lost/found for no particular reason.
Is there a way for me to create a two key combination that will toggle my internet connection on/off? I am right clicking a shortcut to my connection and choosing "disable". I'd like a less cumbersome method.
I have no problem connecting to the internet however I constantly get this message while surfing the net. No Connection to the internet is currently available. To view internet content that has been saved on your computer, click work offline. click try again to connect or WORK OFFLINE try agian. My internet connection is fine.
I have a dell 4600 dimension operating on windows XP, and my ISP is optimum cable. It's been coming on slowly, but my connection to the internet, via internet explorer is extremely slow. I also experience long waits opeing new windows, or attachments from a site, as well as rply and fwd on E-mail. Once connected moving from site to site is normal speed, but as stated other openings take up to 2-3 minutes to connect. My ISP says my connection is fine, but I do get a connectivity icon on occasion, causing me to click repair, and it goes away.
I seem to have a problem sharing the Internet between 2 pcs. The Internet connection lasts for a while & then, later on, it doesn't work. Is there any reason why this might be? The 2 pcs have Windows XP & they are both configured using the Network Connection Wizard. They should both work fine but they don't.
i try to share internet connections to play my xbox. Let me tell you what i am trying to do first and the error and i am getting. I have my internet connected threw USB dirctly to my modem. Then i have my crossover cable plug into my Xbox and the other end in my ethernet port.. And when i trying to bridge the connections i get a error on my xbox something about the DNS sever i try to fix that but i think its because I am not sharing my internet connection.. This is the error i get when i try. An error occurred while internet connection sharing was being enabled. The specified service does not exist as an installed service And here a screenshot of the error you can make it bigger for you can read it..
I seem to have a connection problem, I first went to My Computer,My network places, View network connections. There, I'm supposed to see an icon signifying that I have a connection to the router Something like this: http://www.microsoft.com/library/med...ctions-new.GIF.In that pic shows the "connection icon" that im supposed to see. However when i went to view all network connections, there wasn't any connection icon there. SO, i created a new connection and the computer asked for a restart to complete the process. After the restart, i went back to the "view network connections" place and there was no icon there. i repeated this process many times and still get the same result.
While surfing along I simple loose my connection to the internet? I am running W2K sp4 completly updated, I have a Dlink router and a cable high speed modem (motorola) and my ip address is set to a specific IP I use RAdmin when away and that works just fine) and my routers IP is listed as both the default gateway and perfered DNS, DHCP is set on the router for wireless laptops.
Reestablish internet connection, from reinstalling all the drivers to Windows repair installation. This has caused a problem with the Product Key not working anymore. For some reason I can't seem to get an internet connection to establish. I can't even install the wireless adapter software due to some unknown error. This was all due to the TCP/IP not being available, almost overnight. No virus or malware infections at all.
About 3 or 4 minutes after switching on my computer, this message pops up. "No connection to the internet is currently available. To view internet content that has been saved on your computer, click work offline. Click try again to connect." This message gets repeated every half an hour or so. Though I had an internet connection when I bought the system P4, 2.8 GHz Windows XP SP2 four years ago, CURRENTLY I HAVE NO INTERNET CONNECTION FOR THE PAST ONE YEAR. I started getting this problem around 3 months back which I had ignored until a friend pointed out the nuisance it was causing. Searched around in the forums. But the suggestion all applied to those who had active internet connections which I do not have at present.
1. When I go to access my firewall I get an error saying "Windows firewall settings cannot be displayed because of the associated service is not running. do you want to start the windows firewall/internet connection sharing (ics) service?" I then hit yes and "windows cannot start the windowsfirewall/internet connection sharing (ics) service"I went to microsoft and found info on it but as I read all it seemed to say was "blah blah tech talk tech talk blah blah blah" I got no where...I really did try! Did something take over my firewall should I be scared?
Computer froze earlier today while playing a new game, had to reset the computer. On restart it said the bios had been reset, and when I got into windows, my internet connection wouldn't work.
I've just installed XP Pro SP2 on my laptop. With XP, ain't your Internet connection supposed to configure itself without you having to enter any settings? When I bought my new computer (other than laptop) and plugged it home, I didn't do anything and my connection came on by itself. Since I was not the one who installed the OS on it, I don't know how it was done when prompted for the connection settings. When prompted for my Internet connection, I had the choice of cable or DSL and I chose cable. I also had the option of ignoring this configuration and go on. Did I make a mistake? Should I have ignored it? Now I don't have my Internet connection and don't know what to do.
All of a sudden, I can't get online. I use MSN and when I click on the icon to access the internet, I get a message "MSN detects no internet connection--We could not detect an internet connection" I've checked all internet and network files/connections. All is fine. I have Verizon DSL, they checked out the puter and said it was a Dell problem.
I go to install a new machine (P4 1.9 ghz) with a fresh install of windows xp home w/sp2.It starts up fine,I go online and update windows to current security patches. Then after about 15 minutes, I lose internet connection, but just one that one machine. I've swapped cables with my working machines, and that doesn't help. I've swapped network cards (gone thru 3 now) and the problem persists. I've changed ports on the hub, still no change. I read it might have been a virus, but I've gone to 3 different virus scan services and come out clean.
Can you only use remote desktop connection over a LAN or WAN? Is it possible to use it over internet with 2 pc's having a broadband connection if you get the ip address of the 2 pc's?
