Ok so i had to drives on my pc and decided to add one of my old ones i had so now i can get none of the 1 of the old two and the new one i wanted to add don't know how to put the jumpers ok I have the DVD/Drive and My master (OS/WD) and my other two are Maxtor i think not 100% sure so how would i put them

I cannot seem to get the mobo to recognize the SATA which is plugged into the primary IDE slot via a Silicon Graphics 680 adapter board. This of course fouls up my ability to boot from a CDROM drive as my secondary IDE port is supporting the original WD IDE drive and a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 SATA drive. At one point I was able to boot from either the primary master or the 2nd master. I have fiddled with XXclone and cannot seem to get the machine to recognize the Sata drive any more.
I have an 160 Gb wD hardrive set to master on my Asus P4p800e deluxe mother.....I would like to know If I could add an extra hardrive sata as a slave...The reason for this is becuase I want to keep diffrent files in here...But I don' know id this could be done...Do I need to dual Boot and install the same Operating system in the Sata...I know my motherboard supports sata Ide and Raid disks...and if its not possible ...Can you tell me another way to add a second drive without dual booting,...I just want my drive to appear in my computer so I could save different files
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am running XP Pro on a rebuilt Dell PIII. The original hard drive is 7G, so I added a 300G slave for storage. My plan now was to change the 300G drive to the Master drive. I reformatted, booted from my XP disc & installed the OS on the "new" 300G drive. Then I switched the jumper & cable so it was in the master position.and nothing.
It starts up, tells me to hit F2 for setup or F1 to continue. When I hit F1, it goes to a blank screen with flashing cursor, but no command line
I was messing with partitioning my hard drive. Nothing challenging, but it seemed to work. But then partition magic said the entire drive was "BAD" and had no partitions, knowing full well it had four.
My computer still worked. Then it would get to where it was restarting on its own for no reason. Then sometimes the bios recognized the master and the slave drive and loaded, but most of the time it didn't recognize either, and wouldn't load. Sometimes it just recognized one drive.
I had thought maybe the MBR was messed up. But then why wouldn't the bios recognize the drives every time. And if one drive was messed up, that wouldn't effect the bios would it
I have a hard drive from an old computer (Win 2000 Pro) that I wanted to piggy back on my new computer.Only thing is it wont recognize it since it shows it as a Master Boot Record drive.I even tried putting it in an external hard drive enclosure with a USB. System saw it and loaded it properly, but it is not available in Windows Explorer.Its just plain "not there"!

700Mb RAM20GB HDD256MB Graphics CardDVD Rom Not sure what the motherboard is, my HDD has the 'old' IDE connections.Anyway, everything has been running fine, so I decided to install a DVD RW unit instead of my CD/DVD unit.
That's when my problems started.PC now won't boot, asks me to install the boot device or something like that and when I check the BIOS, it says that the Pri / Sec units not installed. Even when I run the auto detection it still says the same thing. I've tried re-installing the old CD/DVD unit but it keeps coming up with the same message.
I have a dual boot system (2 hard drives) booting Suse and XP and boot up through Suse's built in boot manager which gives me the option of booting to Windows or Linux. But since I barely ever use Linux I want to delete it off the 2nd drive so I can use it for a storage drive, so I'm wondering how to replace the Windows Master Boot Record so I can just boot into my XP drive. I'm scared that once I delete/reformat the contents of the 2nd hard drive (I'll probably use Partition Magic to do this through my XP drive) that I won't be able to boot XP up anymore. So before I do anything I want to just be able to boot into XP and bypass the linux drive before I delete it to make sure everything is ok.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an athalon 1200 on an asus a7a266 OS Winxp SP2 512mb onboard. Last year I replaced the main drive after four years of use with a Western Digital drive. recently on boot up, the system can no longer detect either the primary master or the primary slave drives. It does se the secondary slave as my Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-812s. Other than the master drive going away,(hopefully not) Is there any suggestions on what may have happened? The Asus MBO is 5 years old by the way.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I push the mute button on the keyboard it does not turn off the volume but it does do the red no sound line. I also can't turn the volume up or down from keyboard. When I go to sound control and manually adjust by clicking mute and dragging my volume up and dopwn on master control that does not work either. Theu opnly way I can adjust sound or mute is to manually scroll the wave sound or mute wave sound with my mouse. help-master control sound does not have any master control and neither does the keyboard express volume/mute feature

As I have come to understand it, this is because IE is an integral part of the operating system (Windows XP Home Edition).I have also had no luck with my attempts to transfer it to a new hard drive I have installed on my ancient HP Kayak XM600. My old hard drive is down to 3% free space, so every kilobyte is critical!that I do not simply want to disable it, I need to free up space. somehow, i accidently stumbled into a method of dual-booting 2 OpSystems (WinXP/WinME specifically). I have WinXP on one HDD, set as active on the Primary Master ide controller. I also have WinME on another HDD set as active on the Secondary Master ide controller.i can choose which OS to bootup at whim, simply by going into BIOSBoot Tabhit enter on HardDrive and then choose which HDD to boot. Then i exit that tab, exit BIOS "SaveYes". Either HDD will boot. its simple, it works well. its differant from the orthodox way of setting up a dual-boot. Booting NTFS WinXP, files on the WinME FAT HDD are read by XP. But not the other way.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Gateway GT5032, Athlon X2 4200+ w/ 1GB RAM, 80GB (system) & 250GB HDs running WinXP MCE 2005. I was using the PC to open Nero VisionExpress while I was opening an edited DVR-MS (~1GB) movie when the movie became very choppy till it froze (Nero took a while to load as well). After waiting several minutes I end tasked the movie and continued to have a slow response time from the PC. It returned to normal speed, then I would try opening the movie (using Windows Media Player) and the movie was still choppy till it stalled. I eventually restarted the PC...I noticed that it took a LONG time to boot WinXP and would ''stall'' every 5 seconds for about 2 seconds. During bootup it reported that an error was in C:Windowssystem32Rasapi32.dll, but it did boot into Windows and all.
I rebooted in hopes of fixing the problem, but then the PC had trouble recognizing drives. After being shut off for about 10 minutes, the BIOS recognizes all drives again but reports an MBR error on boot up and will not even load Windows. I'm assuming that MBR is the Master Boot Record...and that scares me a lot. I am wandering if there is any easy way to repair this problem. And also if the MBR is indeed damaged, could it also have harmed my other files on the HD (such as Rasapi32.dll)? What is the function of Rasapi32.dll. I don't suspect a virus as I was not running any suspicious files lately.
I was messing around with Ubuntu Linux and it installed GRUB on the master boot record and I want it gone. I was told to type 'fdisk /mbr' in MSDOS mode to get rid of GRUB. I dont know how do get into MSDOS mode.. command prompt doesnt work.

How do I access the Master Boot List, or System Startup Menu, whatever you may call the list the OS uses to Start the system up when it boots.
I booted up my computer and got an error message saying "STOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file):System RootSystem32ConfigDEFAULT or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable" I tried rebooting in safe mode, to no avail. Now I can't even get it to come back to the other "STOP" error screen because every time I boot up my computer a window pops up labeled "Dell PC Restore by Symantec" and states The Dell system recovery tool has detected an unsupported change in your master boot record. The tool cannot run at this time."
Every time I try to do a search for a band or a show on Ticketmaster, it takes me as far as the loading screen. No matter how long I let it load, it just wont move past that screen. Similar issue with IMDB, site works fine until I try to play a video. I get a whole lot of nothing. No matter which web browser I use, I get the same results.

Merging the old Linux partitions space with one of my current NTFS partitions for the extra space (all above-mentioned partitions are on the same HDD, for the record). Would've done this with Partition Magic.

Such as suddenly begin to give sounds like TICK, TICK TICK. Suddenly vanishes from the 'MY COMPUTER' drives. Suddenly denies to copy paste functions. BIOS shows both SATA drives. But Win XP doesn't load or simply hangs while starting up [booting up]. It happens when I attach second SATA drive with system. If only one SATA is attached, then WIN XP boots normally.
