View 13 RepliesSo i was trying to make some room on y C drive and i guess i deleted some files that i shouldn't To make a long story short now my volume control thingy that stays on my taskbar has dissapeared. When i go to the control panel and to sounds and audio devices and i get in there and there is an icon with the option to place volume icon on the taskbar but when i click on that i get 'windows cannot display the volume control on the task bar because the volume control program has not been installed. After several tries i figured i deleted the windows file soundvol32.exe but how the hell do i get it back and put it in its right place?I have no idea where it would go? Anybody have an idea how i can install that back? I tried using my windows cd but since i put service pack 2 on it it said that the version of windows i had on the cd was older than my current version.

When I go to sound control and manually adjust by clicking mute and dragging my volume up and dopwn on master control that does not work either. Theu opnly way I can adjust sound or mute is to manually scroll the wave sound or mute wave sound with my mouse. help-master control sound does not have any master control and neither does the keyboard express volume/mute feature
View 2 Replies View Relatedi would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of msn m. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by Internet, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSituation: Had MS Natural Keyboard Pro PS2 with the media keys working just fine. Problem... it's a white keyboard and all my stuff is now black or silver. Okay, get a new keyboard, MS Wireless Natural Keyboard. Uninstalled and reinstalled old/new software. ONly problem, the new keyboard can't control volume up/down. It can mute/unmute and all other special keys work.
where the link is that ties those keys in to the main volume control in registery. Here's something interesting: If I plug the old PS2 keyboard in, no drivers, XP recoginizes and all media keys work fine on it including volume. If I keep both keyboards installed simultaneously they both work fine and control everything EXCEPT the new one can't raise/lower the volume, just mute.
I click on the volume control icon, and it "opens" on the task bar, but it doesnt show up on the screen. I can close it by right clicking its 'bubble' on the taskbar, and selecting close.I just can't see it when its open, and i cant figure out why.I have tried restarting the computer, and reinstalling the sound card drivers. Can i reinstall the volume control in XP, like you can in 98?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I try to go to my Volume Control and get this message:"There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware. This program will now close." When I go to my Sounds And Audio Devices Properties, the tabs labled Volume, Audio, and Voice will not even highlight. The buttons that is, nothing works, they're all disabled or something.I guess I'm just having all kinds of problems with this new Windows installation.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am using XP Pro and up until recently when I clicked on the volume control button in the task bar on the lower right hand side of the screen, the button would open up and I could raise or lower the volume with the slider and right click on the button to get an idea of how loud the volume had been increased or decreased. After hooking up a USB turntable and installing the accompaning "AudaCity" software the only sound I can get when I click on the button is the "mute" sound even though there is no check in the "mute" box. It doesn't matter how high or low I raise the slider, the sound is the same; mute.
That really would not be a problem in as much as I am still able to play all .wmv, .wav, .mpeg, and .mp3, etc. files and the volume control button works to control the volume on all these files. The problem is that I was able to record a song from two different albums and save it to "my music" folder, but when I tried to record another song the following day the turntable would not record. I discovered it was not working because there was no sound and thinking perhaps I had muted the PC I checked the volume control button and discovered then there was no sound when I clicked the button.
If you do not have the Windows XP retail CDs you can Download Sndvol32.exe from the link.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf I use XP Pro my Logitech Elite keyboard volume control knob turns the volume up and down smoothly regardless of if I am gaming etc but when I use the keyboard in XP Media Centre the volume control becomes very jerky and virtually uncontrollable. For instance it will be at 30% but if I turn it down one notch in XP Pro it would go down to 27% but in Media Centre it go go down to 20% or even 15% or even worse no volume.I have tried uninstalling the drivers, reinstalling them and nothing seems to work.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThere is no volume icon displayed in my systray. There used to be one there. When I open Sounds and Audio Devices on the Control Panel and check the Place volume icon in the taskbar I get a window that says: Windows cannot display the volume control on the taskbar because the Volume Control Program has not been installed. To install it, use Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Where is the setup file. Is it a windows program or perhaps a Dell utility? XP Home SP2 on a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop.
View 10 Replies View Relatedevery 3-5 minutes or so, the main window that i'm working in (doesn't matter which program im running, but usually firefox/msn messenger, etc..) stops being the "top" window, and instead goes to the background - as if i opened another internet explorer window on top of it.this "glitch" is always followed by something even more strange - the sound gets cut off, and if i check the meters in volume control i always find the "wave" meter to be on minimum, and i have to put it back in the middle.

I've tried numerous searches on google/forums but nothing seems to work. I tried the services.msc, Ive tried the "machine.inf" copy/paste method. Tried to reset the BIOS to default in the setup menu (not sure if i really did this right but.). Nothing seems to be working. The sound worked before I had to delete the partition and reinstall Windows XP. Had a virus or something so I had to delete the partition and reinstall like I said. It's Windows XP Professional.I got the laptop from Cyberpowerpc.com. Phoenix brand motherboard (i think that is a brand, Everest said the BIOS type was phoenix anyway, it says the actual motherboard name is Unkown). When I bought it, the sound said: Built-In AC97 Sound Card if that helps. I was pretty sure I had "Realtek AC 97" Audio driver before the crash but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I cannot seem to get the mobo to recognize the SATA which is plugged into the primary IDE slot via a Silicon Graphics 680 adapter board. This of course fouls up my ability to boot from a CDROM drive as my secondary IDE port is supporting the original WD IDE drive and a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 SATA drive. At one point I was able to boot from either the primary master or the 2nd master. I have fiddled with XXclone and cannot seem to get the machine to recognize the Sata drive any more.
I want to install a second disk to my PC, but I am not sure what the "exact" way to do as I heard something like "master/slave", setting jumper, etc. Can anyone guide me the installation?
