Pri Master -Sec Master Not Installed - IDE Connections
Oct 12, 2008I have been running my pc with XP Proffesional Edition:1.4MHZ AMD Athlon (I think!!)
700Mb RAM20GB HDD256MB Graphics CardDVD Rom Not sure what the motherboard is, my HDD has the 'old' IDE connections.Anyway, everything has been running fine, so I decided to install a DVD RW unit instead of my CD/DVD unit.
That's when my problems started.PC now won't boot, asks me to install the boot device or something like that and when I check the BIOS, it says that the Pri / Sec units not installed. Even when I run the auto detection it still says the same thing. I've tried re-installing the old CD/DVD unit but it keeps coming up with the same message.
Default Browser - Can Open MSN Messenger In Browser
Oct 4, 2005Is there any way to have a default Browser? I want every program that has links to open up in say. Firefox, I have tried setting it as my default browser in the settings option, and in "Set programs access and defaults". It works quite well... But can I get MSN Messenger to open up in that browser? When I click on my e-mails or MSN Space Etc. It opens up in Internet Explorer. Is there ANY way to open it in my default browser?

Aug 24, 2005I am half way computer literate, but this one has me. I am hoping someone can tell me where to look. When I open Internet Explorer, my home page (www.google.com) opens.When it is finished loading, it automatically redirets to yahoo mail login page. The catch is, all my browsers windows that are open will be changed too. If I hit "stop" before the page is loaded, then hit "refresh", this action does not occur. I have Microsoft updates automatically downloade do my computer. I have the latest MacAfee anti-virus on my computer and have run the latest scan. I have run Microsoft beta spy-ware, ad aware and yahoo's version. I am not seeing anything.

Jul 8, 2005I have tested the TS client capability on PPC 2003 and it works but I find it unsatisfactory because of the need to scrol the window. Does anyone know of a third-party solution, or, for that matter, a Microsoft solution to this problem. I guess that what it would mean is to have the window scaled down to fit the size of the PDA display, in this case a Dell Axim X5.

Nov 11, 2007I have a Windows network using SBS Server 2003 all the clients are only using drive mapping not actually logging in to the domain.
I setup openVPN on one Windows PC and opened the ports on the router.
When I log in to openVPN I get an error when using a Windows PC as the client.
status=55 The specified network device or resource is no longer available.
I have seen this error on other forums by searching but no fixes for it.
My son can log in and see the network using linux, so it must be an XP problem.

Aug 23, 2010I am trying to replace a failinf IDE drive with a SATA replacement. How do I make it bootable? I am using an ABIT VA-10 mobo, Win XP SP3, 1.5 GB DDR333 Ram, and a mix n' match collection of IDE and SATA HDD's?
I cannot seem to get the mobo to recognize the SATA which is plugged into the primary IDE slot via a Silicon Graphics 680 adapter board. This of course fouls up my ability to boot from a CDROM drive as my secondary IDE port is supporting the original WD IDE drive and a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 SATA drive. At one point I was able to boot from either the primary master or the 2nd master. I have fiddled with XXclone and cannot seem to get the machine to recognize the Sata drive any more.

Apr 8, 2005I have an athalon 1200 on an asus a7a266 OS Winxp SP2 512mb onboard. Last year I replaced the main drive after four years of use with a Western Digital drive. recently on boot up, the system can no longer detect either the primary master or the primary slave drives. It does se the secondary slave as my Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-812s. Other than the master drive going away,(hopefully not) Is there any suggestions on what may have happened? The Asus MBO is 5 years old by the way.

PC specs: Compaq, Presario M2000. XP HOme.
Both the Local and Wireless connection gave a message saying the network didn't assign the computer an IP Address.So I went to Properties, Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and manually assigned both the IP address, Subnet Mask and Dafault Gateway, so now the Local area it's connected and the wireless too (with excelletn signal). but I am not able to go online yet
Folders Showing Up In FTP Client - Not Explorer
Oct 16, 2005I was testing my FTP server tonight and when I connect to the home directory there's two folders that show up (RECYCLER and System Volume Information) in the home directory that shouldn't be there. When I go into my home directory in Windows Explorer these folders don't show up there, even if I choose to show the hidden files. If I can't get these folders to show up in Windows Explorer I can't exclude them from showing up in my FTP Server software. Is it possible that they show up in my FTP client because I'm connecting to the same machine the server is on? That's all I can come up with.

Jun 29, 2008My host PC (my desktop) is running an ASUS P5PE-VM with 1gig DDR PC3200 Crucial RAM, has a Intel DualCore E2180 @ 2GHZ. I use a dial-up connection, and even though it is dial-up, my connection speed averages from 52Kbps to 54.3Kbps. So its actually pretty good for dial-up. My OS is Win XP wit SP2. I think that pretty much covers the important basics. My client PC (my laptop) is an ACER Aspire 3100 w/ 512MB DDR2 It has an AMD Sempron 3200 @ 1.6GHZ w/512KB of L2 Cache. It also has an 802.11 b/g wireless Lan. I installed a wireless card (Belkin Wireless G desktop card) in my desktop (host) and set up an ad-hoc network between the two. Basically I set up a wireless network without a router. I've done this before and had no problem, however this time I cannot connect to the internet using the client (my laptop). Everything appears to be in order, ICS is enabled on the host, Firewall in configured, communication between the two is there, I verified by pinging both IP's using ipconfig. The host is able to connect to the internet and browse with out no problem. its just the client I am haveing trouble with. Could it be a DNS problem? When I open IE on the client it just displays the 'cannot display web page', I even tried pinging the web page and am successful in that, it just wont display the web page. Am I missing something?

Jan 5, 2007This isn't about my machine.client's PC.Computer is an IBM ThinkCenter, P4 with SATA HD. It's very slow in responding.needs some defrag, but not enough to cause all the slowness experienced. Ran checkdisk in read only...found errors in the I130 file. Ran again in /r and /f modes, and it didn't find any issues. Ran again from within WinXP in read only...same errors found. The hard drive is a Hitachi (yeah, I know) Deskstar.Have run msconfig to clear out non-essential programs. No detectable spyware using (yeah, I know) Spybot or Adaware Personal.Currently running SFC /scannow and will run a defrag when complete but wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions/ideas.

Mar 26, 2007I am running XP Pro on a rebuilt Dell PIII. The original hard drive is 7G, so I added a 300G slave for storage. My plan now was to change the 300G drive to the Master drive. I reformatted, booted from my XP disc & installed the OS on the "new" 300G drive. Then I switched the jumper & cable so it was in the master position.and nothing.
It starts up, tells me to hit F2 for setup or F1 to continue. When I hit F1, it goes to a blank screen with flashing cursor, but no command line
Mute Button And Master Volume Not Working
Jun 18, 2005When I push the mute button on the keyboard it does not turn off the volume but it does do the red no sound line. I also can't turn the volume up or down from keyboard. When I go to sound control and manually adjust by clicking mute and dragging my volume up and dopwn on master control that does not work either. Theu opnly way I can adjust sound or mute is to manually scroll the wave sound or mute wave sound with my mouse. help-master control sound does not have any master control and neither does the keyboard express volume/mute feature

Apr 2, 2007I was messing with partitioning my hard drive. Nothing challenging, but it seemed to work. But then partition magic said the entire drive was "BAD" and had no partitions, knowing full well it had four.
My computer still worked. Then it would get to where it was restarting on its own for no reason. Then sometimes the bios recognized the master and the slave drive and loaded, but most of the time it didn't recognize either, and wouldn't load. Sometimes it just recognized one drive.
I had thought maybe the MBR was messed up. But then why wouldn't the bios recognize the drives every time. And if one drive was messed up, that wouldn't effect the bios would it

Jul 28, 2005I got my master disk crashed and now I have replaced the disk and installed the new WinXP.How can I connect the old crashed master disk back to the bus and installed
as the slave disk.I guess the old disk is not crashed seriously and I am trying to recover some of the data.I have tried to connect the old crashed disk to the slave position and have the jumper setting correct.However, the BIOS does not detect both of them and complains cannot find any OS.
