When I push the mute button on the keyboard it does not turn off the volume but it does do the red no sound line. I also can't turn the volume up or down from keyboard. When I go to sound control and manually adjust by clicking mute and dragging my volume up and dopwn on master control that does not work either. Theu opnly way I can adjust sound or mute is to manually scroll the wave sound or mute wave sound with my mouse. help-master control sound does not have any master control and neither does the keyboard express volume/mute feature
I am using Windows XP Pro, Mute button doesnt work. Also the eject button doesn't work (this never did, but i would like to set it up to eject my disc drive). Another thing i would like it to do is for the F14 button (which is unused on Windows) to work as a print screen button.
This past week my laptop started going nuts and I think I may have picked up a virus. Here's what is happening:The system mute check box on the master volume control toggles mute on and off constantly. Input from me has no effect whatsoever. Task manager shows no suspect operations that I can see and nothing seems to help in stopping it from happening. Symantec AV removed a trojan, but that did not stop the madness. My comp is a Toshiba U205-5002 running a fully updated version of WinXP SP2.
I am using XP Pro and up until recently when I clicked on the volume control button in the task bar on the lower right hand side of the screen, the button would open up and I could raise or lower the volume with the slider and right click on the button to get an idea of how loud the volume had been increased or decreased. After hooking up a USB turntable and installing the accompaning "AudaCity" software the only sound I can get when I click on the button is the "mute" sound even though there is no check in the "mute" box. It doesn't matter how high or low I raise the slider, the sound is the same; mute.
That really would not be a problem in as much as I am still able to play all .wmv, .wav, .mpeg, and .mp3, etc. files and the volume control button works to control the volume on all these files. The problem is that I was able to record a song from two different albums and save it to "my music" folder, but when I tried to record another song the following day the turntable would not record. I discovered it was not working because there was no sound and thinking perhaps I had muted the PC I checked the volume control button and discovered then there was no sound when I clicked the button.
I have been running my pc with XP Proffesional Edition:1.4MHZ AMD Athlon (I think!!) 700Mb RAM20GB HDD256MB Graphics CardDVD Rom Not sure what the motherboard is, my HDD has the 'old' IDE connections.Anyway, everything has been running fine, so I decided to install a DVD RW unit instead of my CD/DVD unit. That's when my problems started.PC now won't boot, asks me to install the boot device or something like that and when I check the BIOS, it says that the Pri / Sec units not installed. Even when I run the auto detection it still says the same thing. I've tried re-installing the old CD/DVD unit but it keeps coming up with the same message.
In XP and Firefox Browser, was changing screen resolution sizes to control the desktop icon size - have an 17" monitor and set resolution size to 1152x864 - but now the middle button on top right corner of screen will not not revert back to the double square allowing me to minimize my window - it seems to be stuck in Maximum size so I have to reduce the screen with the cursor, otherwise I loose everything above the Function Bar of File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, etc. I tried lowering the resolution, but that did not seem to work either...also when I click on this middel button between _ and X - it enlarges beyond my screen size and I cannot scroll
I was transfering music and word files from my ipod to my computer when a window popped up saying something like "C" drive does not have room. Continue? I pressed cancel and went into my music files to delet some files to clear room. All of a sudden I encountered the blue screen of death! With error "unmountable boot volume". So far I have tried (without success):-Safe Mode-Last know configuration-chckdsk /r-chckdsk /p"Fixboot" recovery console windowxp this says it is looking for F:minint (when it is supposed to be looking for C:windows)-using harddrive as slave in secondary computer to run recovery majority of files came up as "file is unreadable"do not have a floppy drive so couldnt run the manufacturer utillities off web.
I just downloaded Explorer 7 I think it is. Problem I'm having is when I hit my back button or "backspace," explorer doesn't always respond. Why is this? It gets really annoying because in some instances I will have to hit the back button several times for the previous page to load
When I hover over a button on the taskbar the window is supposed to restore. Well it's not happening. Is this a setting I can change or is it messed up somehow Win XP Pro SP2
The left hand mouse button will not work on the desktop icons, nothing will open unless I use the right and open button. I'm running Win XP hope SP2. I have tried all the usual mouse settings that came with windows and the software for the mouse. The mouse I am using is wireless but I have also tried others with the same result
My internet explorer wont start!! Actually it flashes up and quits at lightening speed The version which am working is 8x...No add ons is installed in it which can cause this behaviour...I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling it but the effect tends to just the same. At the same time the 'Search' button in the Start Menu does not even load up. Nothing happens when i click on it...But the Search button in the 'My computer' still works. i want my Search function back to normal in my Start Menu
I just re-installed XP SP2 on my laptop. Everything seems to be okay except that the system does not allow me to unmute the mic. I've already installed the audio and CD drivers for the system, as well as the display drivers. The system has mic but it does not allow me to uncheck it.
Running XP Professional and the sound is muted. In the control panel in Sounds and Audio DevicesVolume the mute box is checked and will not clear. Is there a registry setting that is causing this or can this be set elsewhere?
i would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of msn m. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by Internet, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m.
I have had the Ad Watch bug and get the "create an association in the Folder Options" error message when trying to open a program. Nothing will open and all exe.and lnk. files are missing from Folder Options. When I try to create new exe. files and new lnk files, the "apply" button is not highlighted so it will not save. I can make other changes and the button is there but it still won't save the exe changes
Ok so i had to drives on my pc and decided to add one of my old ones i had so now i can get none of the 1 of the old two and the new one i wanted to add don't know how to put the jumpers ok I have the DVD/Drive and My master (OS/WD) and my other two are Maxtor i think not 100% sure so how would i put them
So i was trying to make some room on y C drive and i guess i deleted some files that i shouldn't To make a long story short now my volume control thingy that stays on my taskbar has dissapeared. When i go to the control panel and to sounds and audio devices and i get in there and there is an icon with the option to place volume icon on the taskbar but when i click on that i get 'windows cannot display the volume control on the task bar because the volume control program has not been installed. After several tries i figured i deleted the windows file soundvol32.exe but how the hell do i get it back and put it in its right place?I have no idea where it would go? Anybody have an idea how i can install that back? I tried using my windows cd but since i put service pack 2 on it it said that the version of windows i had on the cd was older than my current version.
When i turn my laptop on it says no operating system i have no master disc for it and i have no master disc for my pc is there any way i can put it on disc
I am trying to replace a failinf IDE drive with a SATA replacement. How do I make it bootable? I am using an ABIT VA-10 mobo, Win XP SP3, 1.5 GB DDR333 Ram, and a mix n' match collection of IDE and SATA HDD's? I cannot seem to get the mobo to recognize the SATA which is plugged into the primary IDE slot via a Silicon Graphics 680 adapter board. This of course fouls up my ability to boot from a CDROM drive as my secondary IDE port is supporting the original WD IDE drive and a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 SATA drive. At one point I was able to boot from either the primary master or the 2nd master. I have fiddled with XXclone and cannot seem to get the machine to recognize the Sata drive any more.
I want to install a second disk to my PC, but I am not sure what the "exact" way to do as I heard something like "master/slave", setting jumper, etc. Can anyone guide me the installation?
I have an athalon 1200 on an asus a7a266 OS Winxp SP2 512mb onboard. Last year I replaced the main drive after four years of use with a Western Digital drive. recently on boot up, the system can no longer detect either the primary master or the primary slave drives. It does se the secondary slave as my Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-812s. Other than the master drive going away,(hopefully not) Is there any suggestions on what may have happened? The Asus MBO is 5 years old by the way.
I have an 160 Gb wD hardrive set to master on my Asus P4p800e deluxe mother.....I would like to know If I could add an extra hardrive sata as a slave...The reason for this is becuase I want to keep diffrent files in here...But I don' know id this could be done...Do I need to dual Boot and install the same Operating system in the Sata...I know my motherboard supports sata Ide and Raid disks...and if its not possible ...Can you tell me another way to add a second drive without dual booting,...I just want my drive to appear in my computer so I could save different files
I am running XP Pro on a rebuilt Dell PIII. The original hard drive is 7G, so I added a 300G slave for storage. My plan now was to change the 300G drive to the Master drive. I reformatted, booted from my XP disc & installed the OS on the "new" 300G drive. Then I switched the jumper & cable so it was in the master position.and nothing.
It starts up, tells me to hit F2 for setup or F1 to continue. When I hit F1, it goes to a blank screen with flashing cursor, but no command line
I was messing with partitioning my hard drive. Nothing challenging, but it seemed to work. But then partition magic said the entire drive was "BAD" and had no partitions, knowing full well it had four.
My computer still worked. Then it would get to where it was restarting on its own for no reason. Then sometimes the bios recognized the master and the slave drive and loaded, but most of the time it didn't recognize either, and wouldn't load. Sometimes it just recognized one drive.
I had thought maybe the MBR was messed up. But then why wouldn't the bios recognize the drives every time. And if one drive was messed up, that wouldn't effect the bios would it
I got my master disk crashed and now I have replaced the disk and installed the new WinXP.How can I connect the old crashed master disk back to the bus and installed as the slave disk.I guess the old disk is not crashed seriously and I am trying to recover some of the data.I have tried to connect the old crashed disk to the slave position and have the jumper setting correct. However, the BIOS does not detect both of them and complains cannot find any OS.
