Accessing Master Boot List/System Startup Menu?
Oct 15, 2005My Desktop screen seems to be booting twice. I want to check and see if that is true and if any other system programs are booting twice during initial bootup. How do I access the Master Boot List, or System Startup Menu, whatever you may call the list the OS uses to Start the system up when it boots.

Oct 12, 2008I have been running my pc with XP Proffesional Edition:1.4MHZ AMD Athlon (I think!!)
700Mb RAM20GB HDD256MB Graphics CardDVD Rom Not sure what the motherboard is, my HDD has the 'old' IDE connections.Anyway, everything has been running fine, so I decided to install a DVD RW unit instead of my CD/DVD unit.
That's when my problems started.PC now won't boot, asks me to install the boot device or something like that and when I check the BIOS, it says that the Pri / Sec units not installed. Even when I run the auto detection it still says the same thing. I've tried re-installing the old CD/DVD unit but it keeps coming up with the same message.
Programs Missing From "all Programs" List After Repair-reinstall
Aug 3, 2008I've reinstalled XP and some icons are missing from the "Start"/"all programs" menu. Both Outlook Express and Internet Explorer are missing. I was able to locate them using "search" then open and pin to start menu. (The search function displays i.e. shortcuts for "administrator", "guest" and the other user, but not for me. The icons do display on the "all programs" list for the other user). Any suggestions as to how to get them back on the "all programs" menu?

May 31, 2006When I click on the "All Programs" in the start menu, it comes up in one long single listing.
It used to be 2 listings, when the 1st had enough, the second listing would be next to it. However it's all in a single listing now. How can I get it back to 2 lists??

Aug 6, 2005I am running xp sp2, and when you click on start-all programs, a list should show..i lost assesories, and all the other standard ones, the only thigs that are there are programs i loaded, but the puzzleing thing is its on my lap top and only under on user name, not the 4 others..make sence?

Oct 8, 2006I have tried searching this forum and did some Googling but haven't seen a cure for this. I have a pretty fair amount of programs installed and my 'all programs' list is pretty long. The problem is it takes almost 30 seconds to scroll from the top to the bottom, which is annoying when I want to start a program that's at the bottom (or top) of the list. Does anyone know of a registry hack or something that can speed it up?

When I press any key I get the first error message again and again. The number of SPs allocated in the error message keeps increasing every time I press a Key.
The only way to acces my PC is with the SAFE Mode.

Apr 28, 2007I have an NEC laptop with Windows XP. I ran C-cleaner today and under the 'Tools' section, found in the 'Uninstall' section several strange programs that I have never installed. I don't know whether to remove them or leave them as they are. I've had the experience of deleting some mystery programs off my old computer and then finding that something or other couldn't run, so I'm deathly afraid that the same thing will happen on my laptop. I'll list out my NEC laptop mystery program names here.

Nov 21, 2008I am reinstalling windows xp. i have had it running for 4 years and its getting slower so i'm thinking of doing a clean install.
what i want to know is; is there a way to list all the currently installed programs to assist me with the reinstallation. I want to be able to print out a list so i can install the same programs again-- bar a pile i will leave off.
Icons In Start/All Programs List

START-All Programs-list Blank
Aug 29, 2005When I open the START menu/ All Programs, the main list with all the program folders is there but the final files to click are blank, I only get a box,raised from what ever background is present at the time.
At this time the hidden icons on the taskbar open and close extremely slowly
when operated.
I found a temporary fix by deleting anything, so we make a new folder and immediately delete it. This corrects both problems instantly until the next reboot but needs to be done separately for each user that logs on.
All Programs List Is Empty WinXP Pro
Oct 29, 2004When I click on start - all programs, the list opens, but only three programs are there now. Set program access and defaults, Internet Explorer, and Windows media player.
All other program links are gone. This is very recent, and the only thing that has changed recently is the XP service pack 2 downloaded and installed. I am currently running McAffee 2004
Unwanted Programs In Add/Remove List?
May 8, 2005I can't seem to get rid of the remnants some Nokia programs that my son installed on the PC.
They wouldn't uninstall using the conventional method so I just deleted the folders and used Registry Medic to clean up the mess.
The only thing left is in the add/remove programs list.
I have gone in the registry and in the 'uninstall section' removed all things 'Nokia' but still they remain.

Mar 26, 2006When I go into the add remove programs from the control panel, the list never gets displayed. I get a 'Please wait while the list is populated...", but nothing happens after that. This is on a fresh install on a new PC, with only about 6 programs installed (Photoshop, Photomechanic, etc). Nothing out of the ordinary.
