I got my master disk crashed and now I have replaced the disk and installed the new WinXP.How can I connect the old crashed master disk back to the bus and installed
as the slave disk.I guess the old disk is not crashed seriously and I am trying to recover some of the data.I have tried to connect the old crashed disk to the slave position and have the jumper setting correct. However, the BIOS does not detect both of them and complains cannot find any OS.
I want to install a second disk to my PC, but I am not sure what the "exact" way to do as I heard something like "master/slave", setting jumper, etc. Can anyone guide me the installation?
I have seen this messge twice. Once on a friends PC and just now on mine. My computer has been running for maybe... 3 days straight now. I turned it off for about 3 hours to keep my room cool. I turned it back on an heard "beep...beep...beep...beep" (the same beep you hear if the ram isn't snapped in the socket all the way) and at the boot up it said "Primary slave hard disk fail" XP would not start. So i hit the reset button, same thing, hit it again, same thing. Powered off and powered back on and it started up fine.
I have an athalon 1200 on an asus a7a266 OS Winxp SP2 512mb onboard. Last year I replaced the main drive after four years of use with a Western Digital drive. recently on boot up, the system can no longer detect either the primary master or the primary slave drives. It does se the secondary slave as my Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-812s. Other than the master drive going away,(hopefully not) Is there any suggestions on what may have happened? The Asus MBO is 5 years old by the way.
I have an 160 Gb wD hardrive set to master on my Asus P4p800e deluxe mother.....I would like to know If I could add an extra hardrive sata as a slave...The reason for this is becuase I want to keep diffrent files in here...But I don' know id this could be done...Do I need to dual Boot and install the same Operating system in the Sata...I know my motherboard supports sata Ide and Raid disks...and if its not possible ...Can you tell me another way to add a second drive without dual booting,...I just want my drive to appear in my computer so I could save different files
I am running XP Pro on a rebuilt Dell PIII. The original hard drive is 7G, so I added a 300G slave for storage. My plan now was to change the 300G drive to the Master drive. I reformatted, booted from my XP disc & installed the OS on the "new" 300G drive. Then I switched the jumper & cable so it was in the master position.and nothing.
It starts up, tells me to hit F2 for setup or F1 to continue. When I hit F1, it goes to a blank screen with flashing cursor, but no command line
I was messing with partitioning my hard drive. Nothing challenging, but it seemed to work. But then partition magic said the entire drive was "BAD" and had no partitions, knowing full well it had four.
My computer still worked. Then it would get to where it was restarting on its own for no reason. Then sometimes the bios recognized the master and the slave drive and loaded, but most of the time it didn't recognize either, and wouldn't load. Sometimes it just recognized one drive.
I had thought maybe the MBR was messed up. But then why wouldn't the bios recognize the drives every time. And if one drive was messed up, that wouldn't effect the bios would it
Dell Dimension 4100 desk top Bios version AO6 Information on Primary IDE master-Primary slave are showing not installed how can I fix this without these computer will not boot up since OS is on primary master drive
I just got a new 300 GB Seagate internal hard drive installed after running out of space on my 40 GB one. I need to know how to move stuff off the 40 GB master drive to my 300 GB slave drive. I'm using Windows XP.
If I want to attach second hard disk with the same configuration of master hard disk, then system doesn't show second hard disk altogether or new hard disk begin to malfunction. Such as suddenly begin to give sounds like TICK, TICK TICK. Suddenly vanishes from the 'MY COMPUTER' drives. Suddenly denies to copy paste functions. BIOS shows both SATA drives. But Win XP doesn't load or simply hangs while starting up [booting up]. It happens when I attach second SATA drive with system. If only one SATA is attached, then WIN XP boots normally.

I just installed Windows Xp on a brand new HDD. The previous hard drive had Windows 2000, and since I didn't want to lose any files I installed that drive as the slave. But when I boot the machine up. And select the slave drive, none of the files, such as pictures, word docs, etc. are there. The folders are blank. The jumper pin setting is correct because the picture is right on the label for the drive
I have been running my pc with XP Proffesional Edition:1.4MHZ AMD Athlon (I think!!) 700Mb RAM20GB HDD256MB Graphics CardDVD Rom Not sure what the motherboard is, my HDD has the 'old' IDE connections.Anyway, everything has been running fine, so I decided to install a DVD RW unit instead of my CD/DVD unit. That's when my problems started.PC now won't boot, asks me to install the boot device or something like that and when I check the BIOS, it says that the Pri / Sec units not installed. Even when I run the auto detection it still says the same thing. I've tried re-installing the old CD/DVD unit but it keeps coming up with the same message.
My disk drive crashed I installed a brand new one. I have a certified COA for Windows 2000 Professional but do not have the software. Where can I get a copy of the software?
System crashed last night with a Kernel Stack Inpage Error, but restarted fine ... while diagnosing, I tried to get in to Disk Management through Admin Tools/Computer Management, and received the error, "Unable to connect to Logical Disk Manager service". I checked, and the service was disabled (why?), so I set it for manual and restarted it, still received the error.Oddly, I was able to start it from a command prompt, which then allowed it to start from Admin Tools. What just happened here? Is that service normally disabled? If not, what would cause it to become disabled? Could a virus, worm, or rootkit have snuck in?
Ive recently bought the "Enermax Laureate 3,5" HDD Enclosure Powered (USB 2.0)" and i put in a "Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JB 250GB (7200rpm/uATA100)". My mothers computer crashed. she gave it to some kid to get the itunes files off of it. the kid deleted all the files on the disk except the user profiles and their documents because Windows Xp write protects them. I need to get those files off of the drive. How do I go about doing this?
I'm trying to fix my mate's PC. It's a Packard Bell with pre-loaded XP Home purchased May 2004. Apparently he got the SP2 update and then the whole thing crashed! Now on starting it is gives the F8 options (safe mode, etc) but choosing any of them results in an endless reboot. He has no Recovery Disks (floppy or CD) - a mistake I know! I'm at a loss and can't even (last resort) re-install from scratch because it was pre-loaded and have no XP CD
we have a dell w pentium 111/ formerly running windows 2000xp(Copy) The unit appaently crashed due to low disk space. I have a new unused copy of windows 2000 professional. I was running windows XP SE home edition. On a Sony Vaio.(2003) Do I need a new hard drive and if so what do i do when I replace it as far as partitions and formating?
Windows XP. I'm on a laptop running XP, with a monitor designed for 1920x1200. I use a Geforce Go 6800 graphics card. Recently whilst playing a game (Football Manager 2007 if it matters?!) the game crashed, and it went to desktop. The icons/etc on the desktop were noticeably enlarged. I did an online test and found my resolution had swapped to 1536x960. checking display, properties, settings, or whatever it is, it still says i'm in 1920x1200. I've had this problem before, the last time I had it, I uninstalled my windows monitor driver and it automatically fixed it. I've done this several times, and uninstalled/reinstalled the nvidia geforce drivers (from my dell CD) once or twice as well and it hasnt fixed it at all.
issue with friend pc, when he boots up he gets the menu that says along the lines of 1. boot xp home from hard disk 2.setup xp from cd so he has to like press 1 every time he starts up his pc. if he leaves it it goes thru some bumf and gives an error n reboots its cos i tried to reinstall xp at one point for him (other problems which later dissapeared) and the system crashed out on me before i could do it..
My hard drive recently crashed and I reinstalled windows xp, the copy i brought with the product key turns out to me fake or blacklisted by Microsoft, the problem is i scanned the disc used for installation and it contain more than a few adware programs and viruses. My PC is operating noticeably slower than before the crash, I scanned my RAM with MemTest. There is also a couple adware programs that comes up in processes, only bitdefender blocks it from popping up when using the internet. Also my Primary IDE channel is using PIO Mode instead of DMA, ive heard this can be because of viruses, should I reinstall windows?Could this mean the windows has been modified and what should i do?
I recently formatted my drive and am trying to reinstall my WIndows XP Pro.When I put in the CD and the PC starts up I receive a message: "Invalid System Disk. Replace the disk and then press any key"I have already changed my BIOS so that it boots from the CD first. Not sure what the problem is? prior to that error message, it states that I should "press any key to boot from CD"...when I try to push a key nothing happens. I know my keyboard works since I used it to enter the BIOS.
I have been looking on Ebay at used/refurbished computers for upgrading from my current and older P4 chip computer. One that I'm looking at says that it has a (legal and genuine version) of Windows XP Pro SP3 o/s installed on the custom built computer, but there's no disk. If I were to purchase a computer like this, and make a back up copy of that installed o/s on my own disk, will there be any difference than if I had received the original installation disk or manufacturer's restore disk?.....or would the installed (and backup) o/s be considered an "unlicensed" copy?
