we have a dell w pentium 111/ formerly running windows 2000xp(Copy) The unit appaently crashed due to low disk space. I have a new unused copy of windows 2000 professional. On the pkg it states 'for distrib only w/ a new pc Dell" I attempted to load the disk, I am at a blue screen now that says windows configuring. Its been like that for 35 min. It is not doing anything. What do I do? Have I done something wrong?
View 1 Repliesafter removing and reformating HD,I put HD back in my Compaq Evo D500 and it won't get past the initial recognization of the floppy drive.The floppy indicator light remains ON,and I can't seem to go beyond Strike F1 any ideas on what went wrong?I checked the connections and the memory sticks to see they were all seated right,but it doesn't count up the memory in the upper left corner at this point I'm lost!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't get it. the more i go on, the more and more disk space seems to vanish into thin air. xp usually takes a couple of gigs up on the hard disk, right? maybe 5 gigs at the very most. i've got 8 gigs taken up by videos in one folder. the programs i've got installed are negligable. the program files folder is 500mb. and yet my disk only has 20 gigs spare on a 40 gig hard disk. i've looked in every folder on the hard disk and i simply can't find any folders with anything of any great size in it. i've defragged the hard drive.

The primary C drive has the OS on it and it is only about 14GB, and my entire disk is about 50GB, the unallocated space is about 34 GB. I have tried to expand the primary partition unsuccessfully. Do I have to reload the entire OS ? I do not have the origional disk to reload the OS. It is a sony PCG-CRT160 computer with 500 mb ram and approximately a 50 GB primary drive that was partitioned when I got it.

I made a disk clean up to partition D: and there was 3GB of system restore files!!! maybe coz i deleted 6GB earlier anyway i deleted the system restore files
Only NTFS partions can have files with file size more than 4GB..i hope theres nothing wrong with my windows or my hard disk..and i wanna know if theres a way to move that ISO image..thanx in advance.
Drive C total capacity is around 24GB, when selecting all files in C:, it shows 12GB used, but only 2GB is left in free space. What's wrong?

Ive noticed my computer has also been running slower than usual. Maybe half a year ago I came here with the same problem, and someone (forget the name, sorry) posted a link to a program somebody made that clears your disk space up for you. It deleted old unused files, and it worked great. You sort of just clicked on the link on the site, a box came up, and you checked off what you needed to be cleared, and then the program fixed it for you.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSystem crashed last night with a Kernel Stack Inpage Error, but restarted fine ... while diagnosing, I tried to get in to Disk Management through Admin Tools/Computer Management, and received the error, "Unable to connect to Logical Disk Manager service". I checked, and the service was disabled (why?), so I set it for manual and restarted it, still received the error.Oddly, I was able to start it from a command prompt, which then allowed it to start from Admin Tools. What just happened here? Is that service normally disabled? If not, what would cause it to become disabled? Could a virus, worm, or rootkit have snuck in?

The problem is that i have a folder in there with the name "software" every time i want to access this file the external disk crashes and i need to turn off the power and turn it on again.The other folders works ok.i have erase and create again the file but nothing happens.i have the same folder with the same files in built-in hard disk and works perfecty.

My mothers computer crashed. she gave it to some kid to get the itunes files off of it. the kid deleted all the files on the disk except the user profiles and their documents because Windows Xp write protects them. I need to get those files off of the drive. How do I go about doing this?

Apparently he got the SP2 update and then the whole thing crashed!Now on starting it is gives the F8 options (safe mode, etc) but choosing any of them results in an endless reboot. We have tried to restore and a varety of other things.The Netbook DOES NOT have a CD drive nor do we have an external CD drive.We have a 1Gig USB stick, We ended up by having to order 2 discs from Acer - 1 to fix the partition and one to fix Windows.How do we make the stick bootable? as the slave disk.I guess the old disk is not crashed seriously and I am trying to recover some of the data.I have tried to connect the old crashed disk to the slave position and have the jumper setting correct.However, the BIOS does not detect both of them and complains cannot find any OS.
Have VAIO VCG RC310G. Windows XP current SP. Tried to load audo disc to Itunes. System crashed. No picture on screen (black). Tried to use F8 safe mode start without success. Have system recovery dvd. Placed in drive. Turned off machine. Turned on. No screen, just black. Hear fan and drive spinning.Checked monitor and see the Analog/Digital message on the screen, (seems to be working.) This is the limit of my knowledge. Any ideas on how to get the recovery disk to be seen by the computer? Help Juscause (I despartely need it). ps, not worried about the data on the computer, but I would like to recovery if possible.

Last week i installed windows XP Pro on my desktop. It has a 250GB hard drive which has 1 partition (C drive only), NTFS offcourse. I did not format it while installing windows as it has lots of stuff in it. There's over 50GB free and i�ve been removing a lot of stuff from the hard drive to make up some space but in windows i get an error message that i don't have enough disk space, the disk cleanup utility runs cant free up space and i can not install or copy anything in the hard drive. I've noticed that when i deleted some file holding (or not) the shift key the free size goes lower although the files are being deleted from the hard disk.

I turned it off for about 3 hours to keep my room cool. I turned it back on an heard "beep...beep...beep...beep" (the same beep you hear if the ram isn't snapped in the socket all the way) and at the boot up it said "Primary slave hard disk fail" XP would not start. So i hit the reset button, same thing, hit it again, same thing. Powered off and powered back on and it started up fine.

It looks like I have to replace the power supply unless someone has other suggestions. Computer has been really low on disk space for a long time. ATF Cleaner IT worked great, took off all temp files and such, all useless stuff that stays on your computer.
I've tried a disk cleanup that apears when space is low but it does pretty much nothing. I only have a 30G HD, but still, that cant possibly take it all up, I have only 19.3 mb left!
I kept my pc running over night and when I woke up the free space in my drive c(contains os) was 700kb. It had dropped from 8gb. I checked system restore I thought it might have made a backup but that was not the case. I did find though a bunch .sqm files in my c drive. I've heard they can be related to live messenger and operation flashpoint ( a game). I have flashpoints sequel and live messenger. I haven't used either in several days. I did defragment the drive one day before this occurred. Can someone please tell me where all that space has gone to?
