Try To Do A Search For A Band / Show On Ticket Master / Takes As Far As Loading Screen
Mar 12, 2010
Every time I try to do a search for a band or a show on Ticketmaster, it takes me as far as the loading screen. No matter how long I let it load, it just wont move past that screen. Similar issue with IMDB, site works fine until I try to play a video. I get a whole lot of nothing. No matter which web browser I use, I get the same results.

Basically anytime my computer requires my login and password to get back to the desktop, after I hit <enter> it takes way over a minute to come back. I can hit <ctrl+alt+del>, then <k> to lock the screen, immediately try to log back in and it will take over a minute to show me my desktop again.I don't know where to begin to troubleshoot this. I also have Ubuntu installed on a separate partition and grub is the bootloader; however, I don't see how this could affect my WinXp install since Ubuntu is not running at the time.

About a week and a half or so ago loading media files takes forever. Whenever I click on a MP3 or AVI file it takes about 30 secs before it loads. In the meantime I get a Windows Explorer has stopped responding dialog and I can either shut it down or wait for it to load.
I've run Spybot, Adaware, and installed ZoneAlarm. I keep getting a message that my computer is trying to access another comp on my network.
I've also tried restoring to an older restore point with no luck.

I've recently developed this problem with a slow startup time. Everything else loads at a decent speed, but when it gets to 'Loading Your Personal Settings' it hangs for 2 - 3 minutes.
I'm willing to post more details if necessary.

Currently using XP Pro, SP2 with P4 3.2, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD (90% free). While using explorer to open a folder and display the files in it, the illustrator (ai) files (hundreds of it in one folder) were shown with the generic/windows system icons first and gradually been transform to the Illustrator files icon. The process took so long and made a system in hold/freeze. It happens as well when tried open files using File Open in Adobe Illustrator or Design in the very same folder and files. I've tried solve it using Display Appearance Effect as well as using regedit to modify the value on Max Cached Icons in registry but didn't work.

This thing has always just flat out blazed since day one, but recently it suddenly slowed to a crawl, and I mean everything from loading windows to clicking on an application(example outlook express), and it just takes forever to load. And forget about trying to do 2 things at once! I built this machine a bit over a year ago, and it has been a rocket since day one, but now when I say SLOW, I mean my old P3 500 machine in the other room is 10 times as fast

I have been running my pc with XP Proffesional Edition:1.4MHZ AMD Athlon (I think!!)
700Mb RAM20GB HDD256MB Graphics CardDVD Rom Not sure what the motherboard is, my HDD has the 'old' IDE connections.Anyway, everything has been running fine, so I decided to install a DVD RW unit instead of my CD/DVD unit.
That's when my problems started.PC now won't boot, asks me to install the boot device or something like that and when I check the BIOS, it says that the Pri / Sec units not installed. Even when I run the auto detection it still says the same thing. I've tried re-installing the old CD/DVD unit but it keeps coming up with the same message.

As soon as I load or search for antispyware software, my computer closes all open windows but doesn't shut down. I used to have Spybot S+D but now if I try to open it or download a new version I get the error message SETUP FILES ARE CORRUPTED PLEASE OBTAIN NEW COPY. In addition to this, I now have the virus known as IESECUREPAGE.COM.

1. Run regedit.2. Goto: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Kazaa/Advanced3. Open MaxSearchResult4. Enter value data as 190You now have a maximum search result of 400 instead of the usual 100!Note: You can fiddle with the value data to change the max search results, but 190 is the best setting.

If I want to attach second hard disk with the same configuration of master hard disk, then system doesn't show second hard disk altogether or new hard disk begin to malfunction. Such as suddenly begin to give sounds like TICK, TICK TICK. Suddenly vanishes from the 'MY COMPUTER' drives. Suddenly denies to copy paste functions. BIOS shows both SATA drives. But Win XP doesn't load or simply hangs while starting up [booting up]. It happens when I attach second SATA drive with system. If only one SATA is attached, then WIN XP boots normally.

The windows Explorer search feature works well enough for most file searches except when looking for files on a disc. On those occasions, the In Folder results point not to the disc drive but to c:documents & settings[name]Local Settings Applications Data. In short, not to where the files are. To add insult to fubar, clicking on any folder in the list results in -- absolutely nothing because I am clicking on a phantom folder (duh). I know that if I scroll across to the right, miles outside the screen view, I'll finally see where the file in question actually resides -- major and unappreciated pain. Is there a config or reg edit somewhere that will allow me to set the In Folder to show the file where it actually is, referencing the disc drive, instead of the above c:. If not, at the very least, I think Microsoft should share some of what the Einstein was smoking the day he came up with this one.

First off I wish to let anyone who helps know that I do this for a living and this is for a customer. If you sucessfully answer this though I promise to donate to the forums really.I have a customer running Windows XP Home hooked up to a DSL line. Only 1 user can get access the internet. In that account its fine. In all other accounts I can't do anything get online. Ping a a URL address etc.I checked and all acounts are set up as administrators. I ran scans with Ad-Aware and SpyBot SD. While I did clean out a lot of junk (including Virtual Bouncer and Spyware Stormer) I still can't get online with any other accounts. Also I can't get online if I boot into safe mood with networking as admin. I know this is either a REALLY simple setting some where or a horribly complex problem.

Toshiba Satellite running on windows XP
When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get
STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x83306788, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000)
I even tried using this http://forums.techguy.org/6669592-post28.html to get to chkdsk At boot, F12, chose CD/DVD, but still nothing, I even tried disabling boot from +HDD, FDD and LAN from the bios setup menu to see if it works and this is what I got, it just keeps going on and on unless I enable boot from +HDD

I couldnt start up windows. It would hang at the windows loading screen and go no further. So I was told to try a repair-install. And thats where even more trouble has started. So I started to repair-install. During the Windows Install setup, it gets almost to the point of being completed, but gave me a blue screen error STOP message at around the "18 minutes left" mark. During "Registering components". It would do this every time at the same spot. So I searched a bit about how to solve the problem. One suggestion I found on the interwebs was to try it with only one stick of ram installed, I have four overall at 2gb. So I tried that, next time I boot up to the comp, it loads up the bios, and then goes to the black windows loading screen with the loading bar, then starts with a blue screen saying "Setup is being restarted" So I figure its restarting my windows installation since it never was completed, after that message, the screen goes black with a cursor, and stays that way forever. I immediately put all the ram back in, and no luck, same thing. I tested each individual ram stick, same thing, just goes black. So now, I can't even seem to re-install windows. Did my hard drive just crap out? Some hardware issue? Im already thinking about buying a new fresh hard drive, installing windows on there, and just moving all my files from the old hard drive over to the new one. Though that would be a pain, I really want to save my current drive! And all the data on it.

My Dell Dimension 4500 PC has Windows XP Pro SP2 installed. When I start the computer it goes through the DOS screen and then moves to the black Windows start up screen with MS Windows XP Logo and the blinking blue progress indicator. At the end of this cycle an error message in a square box appears for a fraction of a second making it impossible to read it. Then the blue Windows screen appears with the message Windows is starting up. It stays like that for about twenty minutes before the log on screen appears. After the password is entered the computer works normally.
Possibly if I could read the error message it would help. Is there a way of stopping the start up process at this point to allow the error message to be read? Would this error message be recorded by Windows elsewhere so that it can be examined? The other option is to reload Windows but I would like to try to fix this issue before I take this path.

My Windows start-up is pretty decent (after I log-in to my user account). What's taking too long is the "Windows Is Starting Up" screen:It takes about 5 mins. or so before the log-in screen shows up. Anyway, here's what happened prior to this event:
My Windows XP OS has just been repaired due to a stop error. One of my RAM cards (I have two installed previously) has also been removed because the technician deemed that it was the cause of the stop error. Now my question is, is it the cause of the slow down? I mean having a smaller RAM? I'm thinking that it could be the cause but I'm having second thoughts because I only had 1 RAM card installed way back but the stalling of the "Windows is starting up" screen never happened. I've had a slow running PC, yes, but I never had to wait that long for the "log-in" screen to show up (10 seconds tops). I only have 6.46 GB free space now which is small

When I turn on my computer, everything seems to be going fine... the manufacturer's screen comes up, then the screen that shows Windows is loading, then it kindof gets stuck between the loading screen and the welcome screen. It just goes black. The hard drive will run continually as if it's searching for the rest of the information, but can't find it.

Normally when I turn on my computer, it loads and logs in automatically and doesn't need to show the login screen. But today when I turn it on, it goes to the login screen. So I click my name which is Compaq_Owner, and it logs me in. I see a quick flash of my background of my desktop with no icons, and then it goes back to the login screen and logs me out. It says "Saving Personal Settings" and "Logging Out" . Then I am back at the log in screen. I do not get any errors, just this. I have tried Safe Mode and making a different account I can log into, but it doesn't work. I did a system restore to Monday, 2 days before it started this. I then log in and it does the same thing all over again. I have also restarted and tried to log in, but that doesn't work either.

A few months back I had set a password on my computer and my roommates were doing nasty things with my computer. Well not that the maturity levels have risen, I have no need for a password on my computer. StartControl PanelUser AccountsRemove Password. That's done, but when I reboot, I still get the XP Pro login box. No password is required, but I still have to press enter to move on. I'd like to get rid of this. Also, when I press control+alt+delete I am brought again to the goofy XP Pro menu where I can choose to bring up the task manager, lock my computer, change password, shutdown, etc. I'd like for this too, to be gone. I would like the taskmanager to show up.

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters. Check with your hardware vendor for any Bios updates. disable bios memory option such as caching or shadowing. If you need Safe Mode to restart your computer, press F* to select advance start up options, then select safe mode.

I use XP Home edition. I do not know how I have change the Window operating system setting that when I double click on most of the folders in my computer it goes to a searh menu. Only "My Document" folder is working correctly (when I double click on it, it opens the folder rather than going to search mode). I have tried all the folder's option setting and anything else I can think of, still the folders do not open properly. I have to right click on the folder and select open option. Above "Open" option there is "Search" option in bold letters.
