Drastic Slowdown Of Computer

A few days ago I was getting podcasts from Itunes (not sure if that's related) when my new laptop seemed to slow down. This seemed to happen in a few hours, but it might have been over more time without me knowing it. Anyhow, I scanned for viruses and spyware and nothing really came up. I also checked the memory with a windows diagnostics tool from Microsoft. Nothing was found wrong so I brought it back to Best buy where I bought it so they could do something. They said they checked some of the hardware and nothing was wrong, but they found 133 items of spyware with Ewido and said that was the problem. So I brought it home and got rid of the spyware with Ewido (which was just cookies).

Last week, my computer speed came close to a standstill and I cannot alleviate it.Initial startup takes forever, as does any program load/web surfing.I have mcafee anti virus and spyware so I doubt I have been infected, Yesterday I encountered the blue screen of death twice with two different error messages.one was IRQL NOT SUPPORTED and the other was BAD POOL CALLER. I have ran registry cleaners and multiple other spywares and anti viruses to ensure that my current programs just werent catching the supposed bug but to no avail.

Been working on a friends Gateway P4 'puter after he had a disaster with a virus. Formatted the drive and installed the OS then proceeded to install all his apps and utilities. Left him about a week ago to research what kind of drive for him to purchase to install as Primary slave intending to use it for Acronis backups and other stuff. He called me and said he could not get XP to boot. Well, today I went to his place and turned the system on. Got through the normal startup screen and then the log on screen came up telling me to click on the user name... THERE WAS NO USER NAME SHOWN. My experience with XP is limited but I did try F8 and went through attempts to recover with no joy. Finally decided to just reinstall the OS. Now I gotta go through all the tweaks to get it up and running. Is there a way to get around the user name access without the drastic step of reinstalling the OS? What the heck could have caused this?

MY pc was going slowdown it wouldn't let met use the magical end task button ,so I switched of the power supply and it wont load up now ,I've tried the back up disks but I fear I've messed around with the boot-up thing anyhow I have another computer now not as good but works all the same .MY question is what's the cheapest way to get the broken computer working again?

Currently when using my computer it will either seemingly randomly freeze, forcing me to restart it, switch to a black screen for several seconds then continue functioning extremely slowly, or the screen and box will just fail completely, and even though there's power still running through it, nothing shows or happens.I scanned for Viruses etc., and cleaned/quarantined whatever it found, but didn't help.

I had to buy a new Hard drive and OS (XP Pro) because of some critical windows problems. After it's all installdw, updated, and running, I find that it's running a whole lot slower then it used to with the old HD...I figure if anything else with the Clean HD and new OS it should run faster then the old. Any suggestions on why it has slowed down so much?

My emachine is running so slow that you have to wait for the START key to respond! I ran adaware and spybot, they found data miners, ad programs etc. I also renewed the mcaffe program lately which has caused additional slowdown

I went out of town for 2 weeks, came home and my pc is acting really strange. I've been getting tons of pop-ups, to the point my computer freezes and i must restart. Not only that but it randomly reboots itself even when not being used. Also, when i go to delete files now, the file does NOT go into the recycle bin. I looked at the settings and there is no check mark next to the "do not move files into recycle bin". My BF said he had been downloading things so I figured maybe its a virus or something. I ran Nortons... nothing. Ran AVG... nothing. A friend told me it sounded like spyware so he told me to run Adaware & Spybot. Did that, found a ton of stuff. But when i retarted the pc, it wanted to start in "safe mode". I noticed that most of these pop ups are (search miracle ??) Found info that its a trojan, but i dont know. . I dont know what to do, totally computer illiterate.

Is there any way to access the bios of a computer with another computer, via a direct link or a router? I am sure that the bios have been affected and attempts to boot from either a floppy or cd get ignored in the loading process and the bios canot find the module to activate the periferal devices ie: keyboard, mouse, usb ports. I am at a total loss of how to do this.

I have alot of problems with my computer i have alot of pop ups coming up...when i click to get into my computer or into pictures my documents it won't open it just clears everything...when i am on the internet i get redirected to pages that have nothing to do with what i tried to open. i also have a smss.exe opening everytime i turn on the computer and also services.exe

It appears CNET performs an excellent service to computer users and their desire is to assist individuals acquire computer knowledge.Unfortunately at 63, such input simply is beyond my understanding. I enroll in a class but upon receipt, the printed directions doesn't do/perform as expected. I note your address is changing--I attempted to add the new address to the address folder but my computer will not accept the @ symbol. My question--Is there real basic material to assist one become better acquainted & understand the system?

In recent weeks the computer screen keeps freezing with the cursor being replaced by the hour glass symbol. This usually happens after several hours computer usage - but sometimes it occurs soon after the computer is turned on.When this happens, I am unable to log off; the computer on/off button does not work when the screen freezes and I have to turn the computer off at the mains.In order to be able to log back into my broadband internet connection I have to turn the computer and and off twice and then on again Sometimes when the computer screen image freezes a message box appears always saying "End programme" (i.e. "End programme - CiceroUIWndFrame" or "End programme - mixer").

I have been unable to use Norton Virus scan because before the scan completes, the computer shuts off and the indicator light turns orange like it is in hibernate mode. I have to physically disconnect the power for five seconds to reboot. Is there a way to scan the computer for viruses or remove a particular virus that may be causing this?

I have purchased a new computer to replace my old one(both are running Windows XP Home) and want to know if Windows XP has a way to transfer all of my files and folders directly to the new PC and also I need to remove everything from my old computer except for the Windows XP Operating system (don't want to leave any personal information in the system) before I either give this to a relative to use or donate it.

I have windows me I have cable hook up my computer is so slow I don't even know where to start. I have norton anti viru when I turn my computer on it takes forever to start up.I always have to get repair for my Internet connection to work right. When I open outlook express and get my e-mail everything is ok then but when I close I get and error message from msn if this keeps happening restart your computer I don't ever want to restart takes forever to come up. I do have my connection with insight to come on when I start my computer should I stop that and connect after I turn on my computer. And also I keep getting norton stopping tnall4c something like that why does this keep coming on my computer.

Im extremely frustrated, computer keeps freezing not sure why. The freezing occurs randomly sometimes it occurs just after startup while other times i can play a game for a few hours before it freezes. Ive been in a repair shop a couple times and they havent solved the problem despite replacing the mother board and power supply. They also reformated the computer and still get the freezing problem. Also when it freezes i turn the power switch off on the back and then i get a noise from the speakers that sounds like someone tapping on a the desk. How can i discover the problem?

How does one begin troubleshooting an application that appears to install correctly but fails to start in Windows XP ?I am trying to install the same application on two nearly identical Windows XP workstations. The application (Maxon NET render) installs and runs fine on computer A. On computer B, however, after the application appears to install without error it simply does not start. Clicking the application shortcuts or the executable itself causes the computer to think for a moment, the mouse icon turns into a spinning hourglass for a few seconds, then nothing happens.

I am building a new PC for my in-laws. However they are giving me their old PC, which I will be using to install Linux on and use as a learning tool for myself.The problem comes in that they would like to use their XP Home license on the new machine. The old machine is a Compaq, and Compaq only supplies rescue disks.not an actual XP disk.Is there anyway for me to get their legally owned copy of XP onto their new machine without them having a store bought XP Home disk? I do have access to a XP Home disk, is it possible to do the install with that, and just enter their Product Key, or will that be recognized as an incorrect Product Key?

I'm not sure what is relevant to tell you. My 7 year old laptop seems to be going slower and slower over the last couple of months. I got broadband a couple of months ago. I assumed I had spyware but windows defender full scan (and lavasoft also) found nothing wrong. I did a full scan with AVG for viruses, nothing. I'll attach the hijack thing after this. I encrypted a folder with Windows encryption. This was on an old computer and it is now dead; motherboard is fried, hard drives are still fine though. I have a new computer now, with much newer, but similar hardware.I have the old hard drives in my new machine, so I can access all my old files, but I cant get into the encrypted folder, obviously. There isn't anything wrong with the Windows install, it's still there and I'd be able to boot into I if it was on the old hardware, but I'm not.What I want to do is boot into my old XP install on my new hardware to recover these encrypted files. I've tried booting already, but it either bluescreens and restarts before starting windows, or it just restarts without a bluescreen. The hardware is just too different.

I was wondering if theres any way I can sweep my computer after someone else has used it?, does anyone else here do this? , I'm not worried about the other user intentionally installing nasties on my computer, It's just that a lot of other users are very blase about what they download, what sites they visit and what emails they open. I'm thinking of doing a system restore, would this get rid of any nasties or am I just being paranoid?
