I had to buy a new Hard drive and OS (XP Pro) because of some critical windows problems. After it's all installdw, updated, and running, I find that it's running a whole lot slower then it used to with the old HD...I figure if anything else with the Clean HD and new OS it should run faster then the old. Any suggestions on why it has slowed down so much?

It does not say where the shortcut comes from.Also, the file is Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, but I can't find the original file .exe where this is launching from. I checked C:Program Files, but that only has the initial set up files. Where are the actual files?

I noticed that after it supposedly uninstalled from the a or r file the shortcut was still listed on my desktop. So I searched for F W and found a few references that popped up after my search. View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 on a Compaq Presario S4100NX and I seem to have a problem with the Windows speed.
It's not my internet, I have a fast connection and FF runs very fast and smootly for me. It's like typical Windows stuff. When I open up my Documents folder even when I'm not running much else, it takes long to load. When I open up a program, it takes much too long. I open up a MSWord document, it takes too long.
Everything seems slow minus the internet. I don't think it is adware/viruses/trojans or anything as I appear clean and my hardware is in fine condition. Maybe my computer is a bit old? Maybe I have too many processes or programs? I'm not really sure what it is but I'd just like to make my PC run faster.

Not only does it mark the file, but it also updates the directory the file is located in as well as any directories above it. Last week, my computer speed came close to a standstill and I cannot alleviate it.Initial startup takes forever, as does any program load/web surfing.I have mcafee anti virus and spyware so I doubt I have been infected, Yesterday I encountered the blue screen of death twice with two different error messages.one was IRQL NOT SUPPORTED and the other was BAD POOL CALLER. I have ran registry cleaners and multiple other spywares and anti viruses to ensure that my current programs just werent catching the supposed bug but to no avail.
View 6 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I was getting podcasts from Itunes (not sure if that's related) when my new laptop seemed to slow down. This seemed to happen in a few hours, but it might have been over more time without me knowing it. Anyhow, I scanned for viruses and spyware and nothing really came up. I also checked the memory with a windows diagnostics tool from Microsoft. Nothing was found wrong so I brought it back to Best buy where I bought it so they could do something. They said they checked some of the hardware and nothing was wrong, but they found 133 items of spyware with Ewido and said that was the problem. So I brought it home and got rid of the spyware with Ewido (which was just cookies).

View 3 Replies View RelatedCurrently when using my computer it will either seemingly randomly freeze, forcing me to restart it, switch to a black screen for several seconds then continue functioning extremely slowly, or the screen and box will just fail completely, and even though there's power still running through it, nothing shows or happens.I scanned for Viruses etc., and cleaned/quarantined whatever it found, but didn't help.

Went into Control panel> Power mgmt and the dropdown menu is totally blank, nothing to adjust... I have this strange problem with my Dell Inspiron 930. When I open Fire Fox the CPU loads jumps to 100% and my mouse cuts out. The laptop hits temperatures of 60C +. I have done a virus using Avast Anti Virus and have found nothing. I have even made it scan before windows loads. I have done the same thing with spy bot search and destroy and I am really out of Ideas. This also effects Virtual DJ and Steam (Only in the community Tab = The one with flash). I think it might be Flash that is causing this, but I don't know how to complete remove flash from my laptop so that it can be reinstalled. Can someone please tell me how to remove and tell me if they know whats happening to my system.

Hi windows just keeps crashing on me not all the time but for example it crashed about 7 times starting up today. Each one at a different point but all sort of just as my pc had stared up, i have concerns that im not getting as much out of my pc as i shud be able too, its a little slow at times as well is there any program or way of seeing if everything is in order??
My dad was using my computer, and I think he did a "system restore" or a reboot. I'm not sure which one because I wasn't there when he did it. (Unfortunately...) I start up my computer and my login is no longer on the login screen. It automatically logs in & starts Windows XP. My desktop has changed to factory setting, there are all these different icons on my desktop now, and it basically looks like it did when I opened it out of the box 2 years ago. I go to My Documents and none of my files are there. Same with My Pictures and My Music. My dad said when he did the reboot/restore the data files would not be deleted. They weren't, and I found them under "My Computer> C> Documents and settings> Owner> Owner's Documents". All of my docs, pics, and music are there. My question is, how can I get my computer back the way it was before my dad messed it up? If I can't do that, how can I get all of my documents, pictures, and music under the appropriate files? I tried to do a "system restore" but it won't let me choose a restore date before my dad messed with it.

Is there a way to know what cd key I typed in a year ago when I installed xp on my computer. I cannot find the box with the cd key anywhere, and I need to wype the hard drive and reinstall. The computer is virus ridden, but it will boot into safe mode. Can I find the cd key from within the os in safe mode?

I replaced the storage drive...this had been the "first" drive and was labeled c: while the one running XP was labeled d:I installed the new drive and rebooted. In the process, the volume labels flipped: the primary drive became c: and the storage drive becoming d: This has thrown Windows into a world of confusion and all previously installed programs show up as uninstalled. They are still there in "program files" but many of them refuse to open, reporting not being able to find .dll files which I can search for and find on the computer.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen the storm died down I booted the computer up and it made a series of "ca-click, ca-click" (that's pretty much exactly what it sounded like, too) noises. It ran slowly, but it managed to boot up. I ran all my programs normally, including logging into World of Warcraft. I got disconnect from the server (DSL hiccup, I think) and went to log back in. There's a bug in the game that sometimes causes computers to freeze on re-logging automatically into an instance. I could still hear ventrilo, but the monitor was frozen.
I told people I'd brb and pressed the power button. It rebooted and this time it made a LOT more clicking noises and paused at a black screen after the dell logo went away. After a few minutes it told me that one of my sys.dll files was missing and I needed to put in the windows disc and repair. Every time I subsequently restarted, a different file was supposedly missing. Sometimes it was NSFW and sometimes it was something else.
I'm trying to find the drivers for this computer, the drivers on the hp site won't download and I can't find them anywhere.

For me backup files are not necessary, so I deleted the contents then installed WOW in its spot. Then later on I decided to merge this partition using partition magic. While merging my computer crashed. My C: drive is saying that it has the contents of the old partition, but it is not accessible or visible. I tried using partition magics drive mapper to make these files go into c: but it did nothing.
