Apr 8, 2006Where are the installation files located on the XP CD? So I can copy the files to the hard drive, and then install XP off the Hard Drive.

Unable To Find Files?
Sep 3, 2008My dad was using my computer, and I think he did a "system restore" or a reboot. I'm not sure which one because I wasn't there when he did it. (Unfortunately...) I start up my computer and my login is no longer on the login screen. It automatically logs in & starts Windows XP. My desktop has changed to factory setting, there are all these different icons on my desktop now, and it basically looks like it did when I opened it out of the box 2 years ago. I go to My Documents and none of my files are there. Same with My Pictures and My Music. My dad said when he did the reboot/restore the data files would not be deleted. They weren't, and I found them under "My Computer> C> Documents and settings> Owner> Owner's Documents". All of my docs, pics, and music are there. My question is, how can I get my computer back the way it was before my dad messed it up? If I can't do that, how can I get all of my documents, pictures, and music under the appropriate files? I tried to do a "system restore" but it won't let me choose a restore date before my dad messed with it.

Apr 5, 2005I initially had a problem with java after installing a SP2 update for IE. And eventually reinstalled XP, that didn't correct the issue and then I had to get a new product code because I was in the "you have 30 days to activate" loop even though my copy of XP was already activated.So called Microsoft, got new product key and started to install again. This is when I first got the "Unable to copy files" error. I tried 2 different copies of XP but got the same issue, with the same files, with each disk.I've talked to Microsoft for hours, and finally had a guy tell me it was my motherboard (now this is after having swapped out my memory with the manufacturer). I just received my replacement board (M7NCD by Biostar) and I am still getting the same error. The gist is that at the dsound3d.dll, I start to get "unable to copy file" errors. I attempt to retry the copy, which works occasionally, but eventually I get an error (normally a memory error) Microsoft had said that even with those errors, it wasn't my memory but my motherboard that was the issue

Jan 1, 2007I have a dell laptop with windows media center installed, as you know they come with a seperate partition for the backup files. For me backup files are not necessary, so I deleted the contents then installed WOW in its spot. Then later on I decided to merge this partition using partition magic. While merging my computer crashed. My C: drive is saying that it has the contents of the old partition, but it is not accessible or visible. I tried using partition magics drive mapper to make these files go into c: but it did nothing.

Oct 10, 2010I recently reinstalled XP but I didn't format the hard drive during the process. My hard drive is now almost full because the files and folders were not deleted...and they are nowhere to be found. I vaguely remember an option somewhere to delete files from a previous installation in xp but I can't seem to find it anywhere.I even tried Googling it but can't find it. Aug 12, 2005Alrite, ive got an emachines notebook running xp home on it. We bought it from best buy, and i guess they registered the computer to a 'valued customer' and its really annoying. Idk how the user name stuff works, but i think a while ago(not 100% positive cuz it was like 2 years ago) when we first got the computer i changed the admin 'valued customer' name to my name. but the 'my documents' folder defaulted to 'c:/documents and settings/valued customer' still. i fixed it by making a folder on c: with my name and made that folder the target location for the My Documents folder.

Seems the system has a difficult time finding "my computer" when you select it. A flash light appears and after several minutes, the screen finally appears with all the drives listed. But that's not all. Can i go about formatting this drive in partitions and proceed with the re-install without having to remove the files i have on the d: drive? How might i go about this?
Installation Can't Find IDE Harddrive
Aug 18, 2010My computers motherboard got fried a while back so I got a new one installed from a pc shop. They also reinstalled xp for me. Been working fine up until recently when I had to update norton. Once I installed my new norton and tried updating its protection it completely collapsed my xp so I had to try and re install xp mysellf only to find the same symptoms that many other xp installers appear to be suffering from. On installation process my hard drive was not detected. I tried other routes such as changing the bios settings disable sata control in the peripheral settings and I also tried making my own xp install cd including the drivers needed for the xp installl to be able to detect the hard drive but was unsuccesssful.

Oct 8, 2006I'm can't get WinXP installation to find my Sata Hard-drive. I'm running Suse Linux on my IDE-HD and I could also had no problems getting my Suse 10.1 installation to install on the SATA-HD. I've booted up with winxp media install disk and tried to use the F6 key at the right time but nothing happens so it keeps going until I get to the point where I can press the S key to install SATA RAID driver from disk that came with my motherboard. The drivers install but then windows install still says no disk to install windows... I don't get it.
I've checked my bios and SATA in there, in fact the first thing I see when I boot up in the boot sequence is the SATA drive. Linux knows it's there but windows install doesn't. I installed XP on a WD SATA drive before and all I had to do was press F6 to install the controller from the XP disk but that doesn't work now.

I tried to reinstall windows XP.My BIOS (setup) can recognize the hard drive. but when I use OS CD reinstall XP, after loading files, chose continue install XP, I got error message, cannot find hard drive. the only option is F3 to quit installation. and my hard drive had click sound now..I doubt hard drive had some problem. System Wont Find Any Default Drivers After OS Installation?
Feb 2, 2010I've got three exactly the same computers (HP and also all the components are identical). They came with new, unformatted, HD's. When I got them I formatted the HD's and installed Windows XP Professional (no SP) and everything worked fine.I now wanted to make a fresh start, so I formatted the HD's once again and installed Windows XP Professional (SP3). After this install I noticed that a number of devices weren't working. I checked the device manager and saw the audio device, ethernet port and video controller in the list, but with a yellow exclamation mark. It saw the devices, but it didn't install the drivers.

Unable To Find Resource Of 100 % CPU?
Feb 13, 2008I have this strange problem with my Dell Inspiron 930. When I open Fire Fox the CPU loads jumps to 100% and my mouse cuts out. The laptop hits temperatures of 60C +. I have done a virus using Avast Anti Virus and have found nothing. I have even made it scan before windows loads. I have done the same thing with spy bot search and destroy and I am really out of Ideas. This also effects Virtual DJ and Steam (Only in the community Tab = The one with flash). I think it might be Flash that is causing this, but I don't know how to complete remove flash from my laptop so that it can be reinstalled. Can someone please tell me how to remove and tell me if they know whats happening to my system.
