Deleting Video File / Can Find In My Computer
Aug 11, 2005I downloaded a video file (12.2GB) from my digital video camera, made my movies and saved them, then I deleted the downloaded file but the memory (12.2GB) is still occupied on my system. After defragmenting my hard drive the report tells me the 12.2GB file is unable to be defragemented so I know the file is somewhere but I can not find the AVI file nor the folders RECYCLER or NPROTECT. This is eating a huge chunk of my hard drive and I need to get rid of it.

Apr 17, 2009My laptop recently crashed (most likely, there was something wring with the motherboard) and I have been trying to retrieve my personal documents (pictures, music, etc) in Safe Mode. However, my files don't appear to be there when I boot in Safe Mode and the Desktop arrangement definitely does not look like what I had. All my programs seem to be there, though.Can someone possibly suggest a way to retrieve my information? Note, I can't access my computer the standard way (ie., *not* in Safe Mode).

Nov 22, 2005Something unexplained happened and don't know if its related to the XP (SP2) op system, new clip art or Norton 2006 install--or something else. Seems the system has a difficult time finding "my computer" when you select it. A flash light appears and after several minutes, the screen finally appears with all the drives listed. But that's not all. When I'm in a program--Microsoft or others--and want to browse to find the correct file, image, etc. to open, the system locks/freezes and won't let you select or even find the right thing.

Sep 3, 2008My dad was using my computer, and I think he did a "system restore" or a reboot. I'm not sure which one because I wasn't there when he did it. (Unfortunately...) I start up my computer and my login is no longer on the login screen. It automatically logs in & starts Windows XP. My desktop has changed to factory setting, there are all these different icons on my desktop now, and it basically looks like it did when I opened it out of the box 2 years ago. I go to My Documents and none of my files are there. Same with My Pictures and My Music. My dad said when he did the reboot/restore the data files would not be deleted. They weren't, and I found them under "My Computer> C> Documents and settings> Owner> Owner's Documents". All of my docs, pics, and music are there. My question is, how can I get my computer back the way it was before my dad messed it up? If I can't do that, how can I get all of my documents, pictures, and music under the appropriate files? I tried to do a "system restore" but it won't let me choose a restore date before my dad messed with it.

Oct 7, 2006Computer is messed up. She has no idea what happened and called me over to take a look at it. So i went over and I started the computer and it goes to the first start screen where it says this at the bottom "Press [TAB] to show post screen; Press [ALT] + [F2] to enter AWDFlash Utility" Then it pauses there like it is actually going to fully start up but then the computer restarts and it goes through that all over again. I put in their Windows XP CD and ran the recovery program and it came up saying that it started and then it says type EXIT to exit the recovery utility. She says that when it first started doing this something came up saying "Deleting Orphan Record Files" then it listed a whole bunch of files and said "Deleted" beside it.. the list was kinda like what you get when you run a virus scan and it list all the files.. but it listed approx. 5,000,000 files. I find that a little hard to belive but she claims it happened. Is there away to fix this and get her back up and going or will I have to install a NEW/FRESH copy of Xp and like reformat the HD.

Jan 1, 2007I have a dell laptop with windows media center installed, as you know they come with a seperate partition for the backup files. For me backup files are not necessary, so I deleted the contents then installed WOW in its spot. Then later on I decided to merge this partition using partition magic. While merging my computer crashed. My C: drive is saying that it has the contents of the old partition, but it is not accessible or visible. I tried using partition magics drive mapper to make these files go into c: but it did nothing.

Aug 12, 2005Alrite, ive got an emachines notebook running xp home on it. We bought it from best buy, and i guess they registered the computer to a 'valued customer' and its really annoying. Idk how the user name stuff works, but i think a while ago(not 100% positive cuz it was like 2 years ago) when we first got the computer i changed the admin 'valued customer' name to my name. but the 'my documents' folder defaulted to 'c:/documents and settings/valued customer' still. i fixed it by making a folder on c: with my name and made that folder the target location for the My Documents folder.

Nov 16, 2007My 2nd drive isn't allowing me to delete any files from it. when i try i get an error that reads "error deleting file cannot find specified path". this started occurring when the wires on the drive came loose causing the drive to intermittently lose power. i fixed that and now i'm screwed.what i've done: i tried deleting from safe mode and that didn't work. i checked all the wires on my drives and they are fine now. i got a program called "moveonboot" that deleted a few files, but i want to fix the problem, not find a way around it.

Dec 28, 2004When I run defrag on my C drive, the program tells me that there are certain files that cannot be defragmented. When I go to delete these files, I am not able to find them on my hard drive. It tells me that the files are in C:\WINDOWSTemp but when I look in that folder no such files exist.
