I am well above the 15% required by windows but for some reason it won't defrag properly with the default defrag on windows. I also tried another program that did the same.
The log gives the following errors. I also had used ccleaner and all kinds of reg cleaners prior to use
In the past, I didn't have to defrag for about a month or two, now, I have to defrag every second day. I usually run the 'analyze' feature first before I defrag, if it says so. Is defragging every 2 days too often? Why is that happening and could it be corrected if it is exessive? I'm using Win XP.

I've read the help files othat came with the program & ran a 'Boot-Time Defragmentation' for the MFT - everything seems to have ran smoothly, except now after that process & another regular defrag the report states that the MFT usuage is currently 86%, now from my understanding (which is very little) shouldn't the percentage decrease after running this process?
Would you guys recommend me to defrag my computer (XP) once in a while?Or is it as harmful as using registry-cleaners?

I was highly upset, I don't know what could have gone wrong to cause my free space to almost completely deplete...does this usually happen? View 5 Replies View RelatedThere used to be a way to move unmoveable files to the end when defragging in older windows programs but I have been told that you cannot do it in XP. I just had my computer worked on and now I have a sign that says alaska that comes up on booting and a mess of hotrod programs running in the background and two sections of unmoveable files. I dont know what the Alaska and Hotrod files are or what they do or if I can remove them but I have been told that they are the first unmoveable files.Should I just forget it and leave them alone or is there a simple fix?

I know it's the "Bonjour Service" that is auto installed when installing both programs. I have stopped the program through "services" and have been instructed to remove a file via cmd prompt but when I try to do this I get a message stating C:program is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Windows XP on a machine that was just put together. I started installing XP 4 or 5 hours ago. It's saying 37 minutes remaining right now. almost three hours ago it was at 39 minutes remaining. This isn't my first attempt installing xp on this machine. I've swapped out the HD, the CD drive, tested the memory and checked the jumpers. Everything appears to be okay in the bios (although i'm not an expert). Nothing seems to work. I'm sure it's not the CD, i used it earlier today on my machine with no problems. Any ideas what the problem could be?

For quite a while now, whenever my system tries to install the latest version of Win Media Player, most of the installation happens and then I get an error message saying the installation wasn't completed and that I must log on as administrator. View 4 Replies View RelatedMy existing C: drive. First I was getting the "Error 983" error. Then I un-installed SP2 which was causing a gang of problems, freezing programs for a couple mins mostly. After I got it uninstalled I did a disk defrag, then a chkdsk /f. Now I have partitioned the drive using PM8 again and this time after the reboot it is telling me it is completed but once Windows XP reboots there is no new partition.
Im trying to install Suse Linux 9.0. But I really want to have 2 new partitions, one for Suse, and the other as a back up.
I am running Win XP-SP2. I wiped my hard drive due to irresolvable software conflicts. I reinstalled XP-SP2, Office, Norton, the printer and scanner and my digital camera software package. All were updated and working perfectly until Sunday. I booted up the machine only to get a warning that says One of your disks may have errors let the computer reboot itself (which it will do repeatedly, stuck in a reboot loop) or you can hit any key to ignore this warning. You have only ten seconds to read all this and make a decision.
Once the computer boots up, everything seems to work as normal except for system restore. I tried to restore to the day after I reformatted and installed everything and all I get is an error saying Cannot restore to that point, please choose another point to restore tooor something to that effect.
a message keeps popping up saying the following: Cannot load dialog. Error 623: The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection. All I can do is click the close button and it goes away and nothing else seems to happen, but it pops up again in a few minutes.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi had was my motherboard cpu fan not working in its cpu fan pin, so instead i have it hooked up to a case fan pin. I am not sure if this means i have a faulty mobo or not.
I installed my brand new Creative sound card, I installed its software and drivers all fine and the PC restarted fine. Next creative wanted to update the drivers and I let it. After it was done installling the new drivers it needed a restart. On restart I could not even get to the post screen and was displayed with an error saying USB over current, PC shutdown in 20 seconds. At first i could not get past this error at all, so i tried taking out the sound card and putting inserting it again. I did not get the USB error now and was happy.
I played Battlefield 2142 for a few hours then shut it down. Now today when i get home from work and turn it on i saw that USB over current error again and got frusterated. After taking the sound card out and putting it back in I had some new problems. I only saw my Asus Splash screen saying "press delete to enter setup" although pressing delete did nothing, it just hung on that screen.

I have since moved... just set up the system and am getting the same error except this time shutdown/restart isn't working ( The OTHER problem I realize is this... this is a tempory move! Most everything I own is in a storage unit, boxes to the back, furniture to the front and guess where my disks are? Right! I put printer, shredder, disks, everything I didn't just HAVE to have in the storage unit.
Man, my computer for the last two weeks have been crashing like an emo. I mean, when I play GTA: San Adreas, in 20 minutes, I get a BSOD with a stop error. When I put hardware acceleration to full, in a half an hour, I get a BSOD with a similar error. Believe me, I got three kinds of errors, and some were from different time. I believe the problem either came from the either the PSU, new 512 mb of ram, old 512, CPU, system board, or the graphic card. I'll try to post the error as best as I can. So, is there a solution to this?

Also, sometimes, after it tries to recover from a serious error, the computer shuts down during the bootup before I can choose which XP version I can choose.
Also, I hate to say this, but I'm not using a legit windows copy sp1, but I have updated to sp2.

I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one.
When I'm trying to start up Windows XP Home Edition I receive an error box without an error message, I can just click YES or NO. Neither option let's me continue. When starting up in Safe Mode, everything works fine.

When I connect to The Internet, any program that I open freezes for like 10 minutes, after which it unfreezes. During this time I normally restart my computer, with no success. If I open Windows Live Messenger and Internet Explorer 7 together it freezes normally. Pinball, WordPad, Sound Recorder, and Volume Control cannot be restored. Also, I tried using my Toshiba Recovery DVD, with no success. It says Loading RAMDISK Image, then it reboots and loads the exact same system with no changes made.

Then shortly after the laptop would show a blue screen, displaying "KERNEL STACK INPAGE ERROR" and then reboot. After the reboot, my laptop seemed to run fine, I downloaded AVG antivirus software to check if there was a boot sector virus (?) and after running the laptop for about 30 minutes, it showed the blue screen again and reboots.
