I am running WIN-xp-he-sp2 os. When I try to search for a file, I get the following Error Messagr:"Unexpected Error. Action could not be completed". What is my problem and how do I correct it?
View 6 RepliesI am well above the 15% required by windows but for some reason it won't defrag properly with the default defrag on windows. I also tried another program that did the same.
The log gives the following errors. I also had used ccleaner and all kinds of reg cleaners prior to use
my printer seems to have disconnected itself from the computer. Upto now, everything was fine, but when I went to print something, nothing would happen when I clicked the 'print' button.However, after I tried printing from notepad, it still comes up with 'Operation could not be completed.I reinstalled all my printer programs, (I HAVE A CANON MP130) but still no results.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just completed a clean reinstall of xp. After installing Photoshop CS3 & iTunes my computer has been running severely slow! I know it's the "Bonjour Service" that is auto installed when installing both programs. I have stopped the program through "services" and have been instructed to remove a file via cmd prompt but when I try to do this I get a message stating C:program is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Windows XP on a machine that was just put together. I started installing XP 4 or 5 hours ago. It's saying 37 minutes remaining right now. almost three hours ago it was at 39 minutes remaining. This isn't my first attempt installing xp on this machine. I've swapped out the HD, the CD drive, tested the memory and checked the jumpers. Everything appears to be okay in the bios (although i'm not an expert). Nothing seems to work. I'm sure it's not the CD, i used it earlier today on my machine with no problems. Any ideas what the problem could be?

When I try to install SP2 I keep getting :" Unable to read or write to database" And then it said:" Service pack 2 did not complete" I also check the Microsoft website and i said I was getting a error code: 0x800710D9
View 4 Replies View RelatedI tried running system restore and after the computer restarted, I got a message saying the restoration could not be completed. There was no explanation why. In case it matters, I have about 2 GB harddrive space left.Also, system restore has worked in the past.

For quite a while now, whenever my system tries to install the latest version of Win Media Player, most of the installation happens and then I get an error message saying the installation wasn't completed and that I must log on as administrator. Since I am the adminstrator, I guess I've somewhere along the line lost my administrator rights.

Hello, I have a computer that I built by myself but I have always had a problem installing programs due to registry problems. A prime example of this is when I tried to install AVG Free antivirus.

I am running XP SP3.I have been doing some desktop customization and somehow have gotten all of my .lnk files to behave strangely.If I double-click a .lnk file (a shortcut) it opens an explorer window (file browser not internet explorer) to the "my computer" directory.(for example, if i double-click my recycle bin it opens the recycle bin folder if i make a shortcut to the recycle bin and double-click that it opens an explorer window set to "my computer")if I right-click the .lnk file I see that the "explore" option is bolded indicating that this is the default action of a double-click. if instead, i choose "open" then the .lnk file behaves normally. now, i know that in order to change the default actions for a file type, i go to control panel->folder options->file types and find the extension that i want to modify.for some reason .lnk is not in my list of file types.... so then i tried adding it to my list but when i do this it shows up after i have done it but "apply" is greyed out and then if i close the folder option window and return to it there is no .lnk extension in the file types list.

I can connect to the internet and surf for a while and i disconnect it. But when i go back later to get on it, it will connect and everything but when i search for something, it will first display this: No Page To Display on the bar Action Canceled internet explorer was unable to link to the web page you requested. The page might be unavailable. Then it says to refresh the page or try again later, etc. When i hit the refresh button it displays this error message: The page cannot be displayed. The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

View 4 Replies View Relatedas i turned on my laptop today i realized that there is no start menu. All my desktop icons are there, though they take longer than normal to load and taskmanager works fine and i have all my navigation menus as well. I am also unable to run msconfig, even in Command Prompt. When i type in msconfig, i get the following message.msconfig is not a recognized command. Another problem that i have been having is that if i click on a window, and taskmanager was infront of it, taskmanager does not move behind my active window. I am running windows XP, on a Presario V2000 with a 60 gig hd, and a 512. i have tried everything to get it to come back, i have booted in safe mode and tried that way, i have also used StartUp Mechanic to disable everything that i do not recognize in hopes that something is blocking the start menu from loading. I am okay with a computer, but the simpler the instructions the better.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy existing C: drive. First I was getting the "Error 983" error. Then I un-installed SP2 which was causing a gang of problems, freezing programs for a couple mins mostly. After I got it uninstalled I did a disk defrag, then a chkdsk /f. Now I have partitioned the drive using PM8 again and this time after the reboot it is telling me it is completed but once Windows XP reboots there is no new partition.
Im trying to install Suse Linux 9.0. But I really want to have 2 new partitions, one for Suse, and the other as a back up.
when i tried to right click on my drives, i.e. c drive, removable disks, the option only includes open and explore. However, when i tried to right click on folders, the available option includes open, explore and search.. how do i include the "search" option?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI work at a small accounting firm and was wondering what the "64x" implied for the XP Pro OS. We have the "Microsoft Action Pack" and were curious as to whether the 64x (bit?) meant anything special; i.e. if it won't run/install on certain computers.
Or is it exactly the same as XP Pro?
here a stumper for me. . . maybe one of you knows how to fix it...when in my computer, if i double click on any of the drives, it opens up a search window instead of opening the folder! its sooo annoying. I have to right click and select 'open' every time. if i right click, the menu opens there and 'search' is on the top in bold instead of 'open'.
