I work at a small accounting firm and was wondering what the "64x" implied for the XP Pro OS. We have the "Microsoft Action Pack" and were curious as to whether the 64x (bit?) meant anything special; i.e. if it won't run/install on certain computers.
Or is it exactly the same as XP Pro?
Even though I have deleted the Microsoft Money program, every time I get onto or do something on the Internet I get a message that Windows Installer is searching for Microsoft Money 2002 System Pack. The it comes back and says "Error 1606. Could not access network location..." Since Microsoft no longer supports this 2002 System Pack, I can't seem to totally disable this continual search for an update. how to disable/delete or whatever to get rid of this annoying reaccurance?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI start up my computer, I get this message pop up: Fatal Execution Engine Error (0x7929f276) By accident, I went to my control panel and clicked on Administrative tools, and clicked on the Micrsoft.Net Framework 1.1 Configuration and got this same error message: Fatal Execution Engine Error (0x7929f276) so how do I get rid of it then? I went online and found out that I needed to go to my Add/Remove Programs and put a check mark next to the "Show Updates" which makes it show all of the Microsoft .Net Framework stuff. I did that, and managed to remove the Service Pack 3. BUT when I tried to remove all of the Service Pack 1 it said something like that "something is already in the process of installing, please wait till it gets done"

If so, I haven't heard anything, and Microsoft service packs usually generate a lot of media attention. I thought perhaps Microsoft would bundle SP3 with the upcoming Internet Explorer 7. If there is no SP3 on the horizon, I suppose Internet Explorer 7 will be released by itself.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a full HP system restore and the Computer guy who came to my house installed the Service Pack 3, the latest version. I used to have Service Pack 1. I have had quite a few problems since then because of the full system restore and having to re-install alot of my programs, etc. But anyway I noticed today, that down in my system tray (or whatever you call it) on the bottom right of my computer where all the little icons are, there is this Microsoft Updates Automatic Updater with the yellow shield and it said that an update ready to install so I tried installing it. And this is what it said:

What should I do? Do I have to get it all in sync somehow and is this messing up things on my computer? Also does this mean I am missing out on all the correct updates for my computer?
I have had Windows XP on my computer for 3 years, during that time I have had no problems with updates. A couple of days ago updates were running when I got the following message box. I am running XP SP3.I have been doing some desktop customization and somehow have gotten all of my .lnk files to behave strangely.If I double-click a .lnk file (a shortcut) it opens an explorer window (file browser not internet explorer) to the "my computer" directory.(for example, if i double-click my recycle bin it opens the recycle bin folder if i make a shortcut to the recycle bin and double-click that it opens an explorer window set to "my computer")if I right-click the .lnk file I see that the "explore" option is bolded indicating that this is the default action of a double-click. if instead, i choose "open" then the .lnk file behaves normally. now, i know that in order to change the default actions for a file type, i go to control panel->folder options->file types and find the extension that i want to modify.for some reason .lnk is not in my list of file types.... so then i tried adding it to my list but when i do this it shows up after i have done it but "apply" is greyed out and then if i close the folder option window and return to it there is no .lnk extension in the file types list.

View 4 Replies View Relatedas i turned on my laptop today i realized that there is no start menu. All my desktop icons are there, though they take longer than normal to load and taskmanager works fine and i have all my navigation menus as well. I am also unable to run msconfig, even in Command Prompt. When i type in msconfig, i get the following message.msconfig is not a recognized command. Another problem that i have been having is that if i click on a window, and taskmanager was infront of it, taskmanager does not move behind my active window. I am running windows XP, on a Presario V2000 with a 60 gig hd, and a 512. i have tried everything to get it to come back, i have booted in safe mode and tried that way, i have also used StartUp Mechanic to disable everything that i do not recognize in hopes that something is blocking the start menu from loading. I am okay with a computer, but the simpler the instructions the better.

Well i only have one user, never had another user created until recently (temporary fix) is there anything i can do, the main user is called the owner, it says its the computer admin, but i guess there is still an admin user, i cant get to that. the only way i can get ms office to work was to create a new user, open all the office programs, export the office registry, and import it to my main user, thats the only thing that works, for a little bit.

Once I installed sp3, I could not get past the windows loading screen, so I started in safemode and uninstalled sp3 that way. My question is, does uninstalling sp3 remove sp2 as well. I can not see sp2 under add/remove programs, but my windows update history says I downloaded sp2 last May.

I have to right click and select 'open' every time. if i right click, the menu opens there and 'search' is on the top in bold instead of 'open'.

This is my moms pc, Dell 2400 xp home service pack 2 512 ram 2.40 ghz Pentium 4 ht dual processors, 40 gb HDD mostly free.The key board were talking about here is the standard keyboard and mouse shipped with dell products when you don't get upgrades.It will work in set up and bios,also when I ran diagnostics it worked. I do not know how to load drivers,I tried to see if that would work.When windows loads up,no mouse or keyboard to move around. There must be a virus or something hanging it up. If I reload windows my disk is ser pac 1a, will that be ok? Even if I do repair ,it still gets rid of service pack 2,seems I read that.Correct? Can I do this without keyboard functions in windows? should because the only typing is in the setup,correct?
