My computer says that my DVD and CD drivers are missing files and may be corrupt, i wonder if anyone knows how i can find thes files again or has any info that can help me.
View 14 RepliesTrying to get the Photosmart C6280 drivers to install for the past few days. Whether it's installing from the CD or downloaded drivers, I still get the same message. Right before it starts to install the drivers, it says that some files need to be deleted and that I have to restart. So, I restart, and the installer comes back up, only to tell me to restart again. I got past this when I ran the installer in safe mode, but I was unable to start the Print Spooler to continue the setup.

I have used this cd in the past and it has worked ok.Do i just need to get hold of another copy of xp?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI get this cyclic redundancy check error when I try to copy files from a DVD-RW onto my hard drive. I burnt said DVD about two years ago using Cyberlink DVD Solution Power2Go. I get this error with mulitiple DVDs, but not all of them (I've got five and I get this error with only three). Also, I get the error with some files, but not others (on the same DVD). I really can't lose these files! My guess is they were burnt wrong, but I'm really not sure. Is there any way I can recover these files?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have ms bundled on windows XP my hp pavilion 1335w. I have saved a lot of word processing documents for my new (3 mos.) job. Now when I try to re-open them for revisal, or even just to look at them, I get a msg in a small window that says "Works task launcher cannot open the file you selected. It may have been either moved or deleted." If I can't get to some of these, I will lose my job! And I don't even know where to go for help, this is the first place i've tried. Can someone either sove the problem, or tell me when I can go for the answer?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI was running System Mechanic as a routine - (i.e. not a virus, or spyware problem), and Windows XP decided it wanted to do an install of some service pack automatically - which it did an auto reboot in the middle of SM running! Grrr...system froze when it came back up. I came back to just see the frozen screen and SM screen closed - and it ookedrebooted. Now when the computer is turned on in safe mode or regular, it just does a DOS listing of missing drivers - very extensive list. Got a CD hard copy of System Mechanic - but now am told if I use it to rescue the computer, it will delete my files! Yikes!My computer, Xplio, came with Windows installed. The rescue disk, if I can find it, (may be in storage) I believe also says it deletes files if used...one reason I didn't keep it out and easily found. 1. How do I save / rescue my files???? I have many years of nonprofit work on the computer I don't want to lose. 2. Can the computer be "saved"? 3. Is there a way to use someone else's Windows XP disks with their passwords (legitimate copy) on my computer to reinstall the missing drivers? OR - can all the drivers be downloaded from somewhere - ideally for free? I can prove I have/ had legitimate right to Windows XP - I noticed Microsoft charges for tech support - guess I am naive - was surprised it would charge for first call ever!
View 7 Replies View RelatedAbout 6 months ago I installed a 500-Gig Maxtor External HD I use as a "back-up" source.When I first installed it, it worked fine. Then I had a system crash and had to re-install WindowsXP Pro. Now this external drive is not recognized. A drive icon is also not displayed in My Computer. In System Hwde Devices, there is a yellow exclamation mark next to the (Maxtor 500-Gig) USB Mas Storage Device. I have made several attempts to uninstall this drive and re-install it but the same identical message appears each time: Mass Storage Device Not Recognized. I'm also getting a Code 39 error code informing me that the drivers for this device are either missing or corrupted. Some time ago I was told that I would have to uninstall and re-install Windows XP Pro if I wanted to correct this issue. Is this true?

No sound is obvious but video controller is not. Video seems okay. Where do I find drivers for this machine. XP Pro, Home and MCE are different OS's ... as far as my experience. The drivers are not the same.

I also enabled it using my backup software but it is still not recognised. Any sudgestions?? I used to have both Nero and Instant CD/DVD installed. I removed Nero just in case there was a conflict with the software but it still remains the same.
View 2 Replies View RelatedLately my pc has experienced lots of different problems. It all started one day when I installed a program named xfire. It was running fine with xfire until I came home from school. Heres a list of the problems:
1. live messneger has forgot my email and runs slowly when i attempt to retype it.
2.Live messneger cannot connect at all. It just comes up with this message straight away
3. The copy of windows I'm running has been classed as an illegal copy by the microsoft website (my pc has a preinstalled installation of windows which was on when it was bought from a store).
4.Many installation programs now come up with errors about missing files.
5.I can't find any viruses with avast,ad-aware or spybot.
6. I uninstalled ie 7 which somehow allowed the normal windows messenger to work without the scripts errors I got before, but now I can't reinstall ie7. The setup always comes up with a missing file error.
recently me my brother and sisters computers all got the same virus it seems and where all on one wireless net work and it started with my sisters laptop sayin the harddrives not instaled wheni start it up and nothing els and my brothers desktop kept feezzeing like my desk top did then mine stoped turning on all togther and would get to the desk top and crash and take 3-4 trys to get started then i did a destructive system recovery on my brothers comp and it is fine perfect like the day we got it then i did it to mine and it started up and worked but kept frezzing on the desk top and then now when i start it up and try to restore from last know workin configuration it says windows/system32/config/system is missing or corrupted hit r to start repair from original cd rom disks and i dont have those is there a way i could find this file and put it on a cd form one comp and fix my comp with it? or do i have to go buy a new windows and hardrive? and when i try to boot it any ways it says system not fully installed error

Windows XP is the operating system. When booting up, error message states that the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>system32hal.dll Please reinstall a copy of the above file. Hello again I just had to switch computers out so my husband could use mine and changed hard drives and noe the older one is saying that following file is missing or corrupt <Windows root>system32hal.dll. and I have put in my XP disk and cant get it to work to even try to repair I don't think I could even reinstall.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI received an automatic upgrade for IE 7 and proceeded with the installation. It malfunctioned so I removed it via Add/Remove programs & re-installed IE 6. Ever since, IE 6 is no longer funtional. When I try to do a System restore, I get error message "ierutil.dll file is missing...re-installing will fix this problem". I cannot access "Help and Support" due to this file being missing. In addition, the 'Backup' option is missing from System Tools. I am running Windows XP with SP2 and am currently using Mozilla Firefox as a web-browser. Has anyone experienced this and know how to re-install iertutil.dll? Please provide assistance if you are able.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try to start it up, I get an error (before the XP logo and the progress bar) that says that Windows cannot find certain files. I have tried safe mode, last known good configuration, etc. Nothing works.I tried booting from a KNOPPIX Linux Live CD, but for some reason it refuses to boot.I have Win XP Home (preinstalled) on this computer, but it also has a recovery partition (which will erase all my files if I use it - this is a last resort only) and a Win XP Pro upgrade CD.
First of all, how can I get KNOPPIX to run correctly? If I can get it to work, I can get the files I need and do a wipe and reinstall of Windows (which would fix a LOT of things).
Second, if that doesn't work, can I use the XP Pro upgrade CD to get the system back up enough to get the files?Third, if that fails, how can I partition my hard drive and install Linux, then access the Windows partition and save the files I want?
I need to get into some user hidden files like application data etc so I can reconfigure some things.I run CFS3 and when there is a conf problem sometimes one needs to delete the Appdata folder to reset it as well as dropping in files so I do not have to do a new complete confg of controls.I have it on my smaller PC but completely forgot how to set it up to see on my new build.

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy computer won't reboot. It started when I tried to update windows to sp2 and it had an error so it couldn't finish the update so it uninstalled whatever it installed. I rebooted and it goes into a loop, first the manufacture logo, the windows xp logo and it goes right back to the manufacture logo and starts that process again. I tried to go into safe mode and even the last best configuration to start and it still goes into this loop. What should I do? I don't want to reformat if I don't have too.

It is telling me: the file "asms" on windows xp home edition service pack 2 cd is needed. Type the path where the file is located and then click okay.I enter d: ( my cd drive) and nothing. it says: globalrootdevice cdromoi386 in the path line. nothing. I have read as many posts here as I can and it is stopped in the middle of the installation at 39 minutes waiting for me to become an instant genius and solve it.
