Whenever I try to start it up, I get an error (before the XP logo and the progress bar) that says that Windows cannot find certain files. I have tried safe mode, last known good configuration, etc. Nothing works.I tried booting from a KNOPPIX Linux Live CD, but for some reason it refuses to boot.I have Win XP Home (preinstalled) on this computer, but it also has a recovery partition (which will erase all my files if I use it - this is a last resort only) and a Win XP Pro upgrade CD.
First of all, how can I get KNOPPIX to run correctly? If I can get it to work, I can get the files I need and do a wipe and reinstall of Windows (which would fix a LOT of things).
Second, if that doesn't work, can I use the XP Pro upgrade CD to get the system back up enough to get the files?Third, if that fails, how can I partition my hard drive and install Linux, then access the Windows partition and save the files I want?
I was running System Mechanic as a routine - (i.e. not a virus, or spyware problem), and Windows XP decided it wanted to do an install of some service pack automatically - which it did an auto reboot in the middle of SM running! Grrr...system froze when it came back up. I came back to just see the frozen screen and SM screen closed - and it ookedrebooted. Now when the computer is turned on in safe mode or regular, it just does a DOS listing of missing drivers - very extensive list. Got a CD hard copy of System Mechanic - but now am told if I use it to rescue the computer, it will delete my files! Yikes! My computer, Xplio, came with Windows installed. The rescue disk, if I can find it, (may be in storage) I believe also says it deletes files if used...one reason I didn't keep it out and easily found. 1. How do I save / rescue my files???? I have many years of nonprofit work on the computer I don't want to lose. 2. Can the computer be "saved"? 3. Is there a way to use someone else's Windows XP disks with their passwords (legitimate copy) on my computer to reinstall the missing drivers? OR - can all the drivers be downloaded from somewhere - ideally for free? I can prove I have/ had legitimate right to Windows XP - I noticed Microsoft charges for tech support - guess I am naive - was surprised it would charge for first call ever!
My computer crashed and when i started it back up i got a black screen saying 'system32 is corrupt or missing' or something similar to that, so we reformatted it, now there are problems. It refuses to update. It was reformatted early yesterday, but it hasn't run a single update.i can't go to the Microsoft website and manually download the important updates, because after i hit download i get a 'page cannot be displayed' notice.Internet explorer won't open. not a big deal for me because i use Firefox, but my dad uses IE. when i try to open it i get a 'IE has encountered a problem and needs to close' notice. No page pops up or anything. I've been trying to convince my dad to get a new computer for years, and he always said 'not until this one's completely dead'
My mothers computer crashed. she gave it to some kid to get the itunes files off of it. the kid deleted all the files on the disk except the user profiles and their documents because Windows Xp write protects them. I need to get those files off of the drive. How do I go about doing this?
one of my computers crashed, but the main harddrive could be saved.I installed the harddrive into a different computer where it is now a slave drive.before the computer crashed i had a file on the desktop where i placed alot of large files. now, when i try to access documents and settings from the new computer the folder that is the username that would contain the desktop files, i get the error message access denied, not accessable.i can access the desktop files for "all users", and another user folder i created for a friend of mine. but i cannot access the desktop files that i created for my user account. i am certain that the file that contains the files i want is on the desktop.
I purchased a 200gb external USB hard drive (HAMMER) a few years ago. It seems that over time Windows XP has been migrating critical files over to it or something. I have been finding strange folders with strange properties. Anyways, the computer boots up just fine when the HD is off, but if the HD is ever turned on and then looses its connection, the computer usually shuts down or restarts itself. If anyone knows exactly what's going on or how to fix this problem,
i was going to transfer some pictures from my memory card to my computer. When i clicked on my computer this window popped up and said " Your computer was infected by unknown Trojan . It is dangerous for your system critical files can be lost Click ok to download the anti-spyware program to clean your system recommended
I am having trouble viewing power point slide shows people send me via email.I recently did my critical and security updates and since doing that it hasn't worked to view these files..they worked before the updates. When I try to open a .pps file I get this message:This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel.
I am trying to fix a friend's computer. When starting up, I get the following error message:Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
but I got an error that c:windowssystem32configsystem could not be copied because it could not be found. The computer has Windows XP SP2.
Hello again I just had to switch computers out so my husband could use mine and changed hard drives and noe the older one is saying that following file is missing or corrupt <Windows root>system32hal.dll. and I have put in my XP disk and cant get it to work to even try to repair I don't think I could even reinstall.
I experiance this problem mostly when i'm gaming so it makes me think that whats causing it could be an overheating issue. anyway in the middle of a game the computer will just restart and when windows loads it says Windows has just recovered from a critical error.
Installed new hard drive, along with XP Home (recovery disk). Before my system crashed all my motherboard drivers were on D: partition.XP loads okay, but it is unstable - for example I cannot start msconfig under "Normal" start up. It crashes. I will not list all the BSOD - but XP doesn't like something.I have no devices connected apart from basic graphics card (which XP loaded the drivers for okay). I am waiting for XP Pro to be delivered, so I am hoping that my unstable XP will become stable after I upgrade (or full installation) of a retail version.
Prior to installing my current XP (one time of at least 30 others - as kept crashing),I tried to load my motherboard drivers from the disk my manufacture supplied.is it possible that my XP Home is unstable BECAUSE I do not have my motherboard drivers loaded? That might seem a naive question - but I honestly do not know, and I've started to become a tad paranoid as these problems have been ongoing for 5 weeks.
Windows xp crashed, wont even open. I get an error: <windows root> / system32/hal.dll is missing or corrupt. I dont have a xp disk, it did not come with the pc when i bought it. Came with xp already on it.
I received an automatic upgrade for IE 7 and proceeded with the installation. It malfunctioned so I removed it via Add/Remove programs & re-installed IE 6. Ever since, IE 6 is no longer funtional. When I try to do a System restore, I get error message "ierutil.dll file is missing...re-installing will fix this problem". I cannot access "Help and Support" due to this file being missing. In addition, the 'Backup' option is missing from System Tools. I am running Windows XP with SP2 and am currently using Mozilla Firefox as a web-browser. Has anyone experienced this and know how to re-install iertutil.dll? Please provide assistance if you are able.
My computer has been running really slow lately, and whenever I turn it on there are two error pop ups saying that some files are missing.I also downloaded Registry Booster, because I heard it's pretty good, although the free version doesn't do much, and it says I have 994 registry problems.
My computer says that my DVD and CD drivers are missing files and may be corrupt, i wonder if anyone knows how i can find thes files again or has any info that can help me.
I'm trying to help a friend out.His XP crashed - says it is missing some config files etc.I cannot boot up in safe mode, can not repair via the recovery console and when I try to reinstall, it says there is an installation in progress and it won't go any further. (My friend tried to reinstall somehow, and has a few 1/2 installed versions accross his different hard drives.I want to restore from a ghost image we have, but the problem is, there is 7 months of data files (not backed up!) that I want to get saved first.I can boot up via a win98 boot disk and see the files, but I can't work out a way of getting them accross to another hard drive easily. In the old days, I'd use xcopy with the "/s" switch to take all the sub directories etc, but I can't find xcopy in XP or get any copy functions to work
Only since I installed the game messenger has my computer been crashing. Tonight was the second time. It says my VTdisp display driver has stopped working correctly. Something like that. Then my desktop icons are huge and the color of everything is all messed up and I then have to reboot.Any advice, my computer runs XP is only a year old and ran perfectly until this happen. I forgot to create a restore point before installing the game. I am scared about what could happen to my computer.
A friends HP Media Center PC m7077c crashed. Had no recover disk, etc. Installed XP Pro SP2 and I need drivers (according to Device Manager). No sound is obvious but video controller is not. Video seems okay. Where do I find drivers for this machine. XP Pro, Home and MCE are different OS's ... as far as my experience. The drivers are not the same.
Well I have a dell computer that crashed, and my intelligent brother thought it would be smart to use a emachine restore disc to fix it.Needless to say this did not help. Is there anyone out there that can give me any info on getting this computer back up.When I turn it on it comes up to a screen that has 7 options:,boot from hard drive, boot from ide cd rom,ide diagnostic, and a few other choices. However no mater what you click on it comes up and says "trouble loading operating systems.I must say I do not know much about this.I guess my question is.Can it be saved with out changeing hard drive. I have a disc from dell that is labeled "operating system"and another that is labeled.Drivers and hardware
I have exhausted all my normal possibilities and I could use some help. Anyway, I was installing XP on a wiped hard drive and the computer froze in the middle. No it will not start in XP.It just restarts. It will start in safe mode, but what should I do from there? I already ran repair, same thing happens.I tried to format and reinstall, same thing.
I need some real help here because I am baffled. I installed Panda Titanium antivirus 2005 on my bosses computer. When I went to restart it after the install it wouldn't restart it would get stuck at the blue welcome screen. Tried booting it into safe mode and it wouldn't even boot there. So finally I had to use the Windows XP disk and do a recovery. Well when I did that she lost all of her applications. I had to reload Office, Adobe, and it said that the Panda Antivirus was not installed correctly. So I tired to reinstall it and I get an error of Class not registered.I hoping not to have to do format and reinstall Windows Xp but I think there is some corruption in the computer.
Gaming, music/photo storage, internet surfing, music making, and video editing just to name a few. Basically, what im saying is my computer is my "lifeforce" . I generally would claim i am generally computer literate. But, I cant find a reason for this to happen. ANYWAY!I turned it on one day, having done nothing to presumably harm a computer, and it goes to the windows loading screen with the blue bar and stay there forever, seriously i timed it the other day, from 1-9 pm it was "loading".I scanned everything while running in "safe mode". no problems. I tried restoring it to an earlier date said it restored successfully, but still sat at loading screen forever.
I cannot remember word for word as it came and went off that fast. This is what happened. I did the restart as told and it did come back but then it happened a third time and upon the restart the computer will not come back on. Or let me explain further...the actual computer will turn on when I push the button, but no picture or desk top or anything will come on on the monitor. I tried another monitor to rule that out and still nothing. I also was told to try restarting in safe mode but still get nothing coming up loading on monitor just a black black monitor screen. I really need to get this back up if not for anything else but to save all my lost stuff before I have to get rid of it.
Last night my girlfriends daughter tried to install a game on her PC (one of these tycoon games) it froze half way through installing and then switched itself off. When trying to restart it, it asks whether to restart in Normal or Safe mode etc and then it gets as far as the Microsoft Windows XP screen and then restarts itself again. It gets to the same stage everytime and restarts. It won’t allow me to start in safe or normal mode.
A while back my computer crashed and I had to do a recovery. Now all of my pictures are gone and my wife is pissed. We did back-up some of the pictures, but were missing almost a year and halfs worth including my son's birthdays and first t-ball games. Is there any way to get them back?
I decided to run a defrag on my computer before going to bed one night. When i woke up the next day my computer continued to reboot itself. It would reach the windows logo screen and run that for a while then i would stall for a little bit and restart. I then would shut it off cause i didnt want to mess with it and it would continually boot itself up and start this process over again. I'm running Windows XP Pro with an Athlon XP processor. I have 2-120 gig hard drives on a RAID. I have tried to do a repair with the Windows XP disk but the disk doesn't recognize the version of Windows already on the drive like it would usually do.
I had a windows auto update shield icon appear I clicked it and downloaded the update. after it downloaded it said I needed to restart computer..click here. I did and my computer would not restart or start black screen would click down seconds and try again but it would not start. Im'SURE the update caused this, as I have not done any other thing to cause it.I had to use system recover and LOST everthing and now I can't get back online till Monday I need a internet tech to come out because I can't get back on.
My windows was not loading properly and so i used windows pro sp2 cd and repaired my current installation. Once that was done when i tried to update it didn't happened and so i went to microsoft.com and downloaded a fix patch and it worked. After that my ca internet security 2008 suite was not loading anymore with windows and so i just unistalled it and reinstalled it and windows started to crash. Now when it crash it gives me multiple of blue screen and nothing till i restart and same thing continues.
