I am curious to know if "choice.exe" is spyware. I ran one of my anti-spyware programs last night and it listed choice.exe and it's partner file in the Prefetch folder as spyware. I went online and it gave it an "8" on the threat level from 1-10. I quarantined both files to see if I could get some advise before deleting them.

When the computer is connected to the internet via a DSL modem the start menu runs extremely slow. When the modem is off it acts normal. The computer is not mine but a colleges who has asked me if I've run accross this before and I'm a bit dumbfounded. He has adware and norton anitvirus running. Hasn't found anything on his computer.

When I delete a file from my computer it goes to the recycle bin. When I delete a file from my file server, which is using win2k as well, it does not go to the recycle bin on either computer. I cant rename the file,the context menu for the file is different than any other file, removing the Rename, Delete, and everything Useful... I cant open the File, btw was supposed to be a picture... Ive tried that technique you can use to rename a file, by clicking once on it selecting it, then clicking on the filename again, but beeps as if it was invalid. I have also tried safe mode, which also failed...
my computer is filled with all sorts of spyware and adware. Ive used all teh chekc programs etc. and deleted whatever i could but yet the pop ups continue to come. In add/remove programs i deleted everything i could but some things couldnt be deleted because the .dll files were missing or something along those lines. please review my hijack this and advise me further. In addition when i go to a website i must enter www or it doesnt connect to the site. on my other computer i can do that. what can i do to fix it??
Ive been using my computer for a few years, and it started to get full of crap. it also had alot of bugs so i decided to wipe the computer clean by using the 'master disk' that came with it.now, its suposed the wipe everything. but it didnt. it left my old user folder (in the documents and settings folder), which i cant access, delete or do anything with. its taking up around 80 GB of space on the computer.i need a way to delete this file.

The only problem is i can't delete it and it is taking up a large amount of space. I already tried going into safe mode to delete but it didn't work. i tried changing it from a read only folder but it says the file is either write protected or in use. i believe it may be somehow in use. if anyone knows how to delete this folder.

How do you clear the list of recent files? My wife is copying some old audio cassettes to CD. When she is done with each cassette, she deletes the files from the computer but they still show up on the files menu. This bothers the heck out of her so she is bothering the heck out of me to get rid of the file listing.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIm using WinXP pro. when i right click for a menu sometimes it takes up to 45 seconds for the menu to appear. Also when i delete a file (any size) i takes anywhere from 30 to 90 seconds for my delete file prompt to come up.
ive also reinstalled XP to no avail.
After migrating my win xp pro system to a bigger hard drive using the Western Digital tools, everytime I try to empty the Recycle Bin, an error dialog pops up stating Error Deleting File or Folder: Access Denied..When I explore the Recycle Bin folder, it's empty. Then I try to empty the Recycle Bin again. The same message appears.

After defragmenting my hard drive the report tells me the 12.2GB file is unable to be defragemented so I know the file is somewhere but I can not find the AVI file nor the folders RECYCLER or NPROTECT. I'm sure it's related to a menu toolbar that I've created on the desktop (it's on autohide) If I boot up the pc it's not there, but if I click on the autohide toolbar to access a program, this wierd file appears on the task bar and won't go away. The funny thing is that I can't find out if it relates to one specific program. I've tried them all individually and some where along the line it' triggers this file. A website told me to run a search for programs with "backweb" in them and unistall/delete them. I deleted one program (application?) from the C:/ drive and now my computer is frozen. View 14 Replies View RelatedThere are two excellent spyware removal apps available and they are both FREE so there is no reason to not use them regularly. The two best apps there are for removing spyware are SpyBot Search & Destroy and Ad Aware. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU USE BOTH OF THESE APPS SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES AND VICE VERSA, YOU ARE NOT SAFE USING JUST ONE OF THEM. There is one other app that I HIGHLY recommend is for spyware prevention, SpywareBlaster. This app sets certain registry entries that prevent spyware from ever installing, it DOES NOT run in the background using any resources, you just set it and forget it. Once you have installed these three MUST HAVE apps you then need to update them and keep them up to date. I would recommend checking for updates weekly, it’s just like your antivirus app, you need to stay protected from the latest spyware out there. To update SpyBot just open the app from your start menu (use the advanced mode option) and select “search for updates” it will then show you what updates are available for download, always install all the updates. Another feature that SpyBot has is called “Immunize”, you will see an icon for it. Select the icon and under “Permanent Internet Explorer Immunity” select “Immunize” this works in the same way as SpywareBlaster in blocking new spyware. It also gives you the option of locking your hosts file against hijackers, I highly recommend using this option as well. To update Ad Aware just open it and select “Check for updates now”. For SpywareBlaster it is mostly the same, open it up and select “Check for updates” once you update this you then must select “select all” and then “Protect against checked items” so that the updates you just did take effect. Anything these apps find is spyware and should be removed, if you choose not to remove what is found then you have no one to blame if your pc crashes due to spyware or your privacy is invaded (including these companies stealing your credit card number and identity

Each time I try connecting tho the Net, despite changing the default homepage which has been changed to c:secure32.html I get a warning message about spyware I have also run Spybot Search and Destroy and the Lavasoft Ad-ware and removed all of the critical objects.

So far I have tried to run Spybot S&D, Registry mechanic, ewido anti-spyware, Spyware Doctor and SpywareBlaster all of these programs seize when carrying out a scan and I have no option but to close the pc down with the power button.
