Ive been using my computer for a few years, and it started to get full of crap. it also had alot of bugs so i decided to wipe the computer clean by using the 'master disk' that came with it.now, its suposed the wipe everything. but it didnt. it left my old user folder (in the documents and settings folder), which i cant access, delete or do anything with. its taking up around 80 GB of space on the computer.i need a way to delete this file.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFollowing the installation of a new motherboard a new copy of Windows XP Pro was installed on my computer. I am the only user of this computer. Two user accounts were created: "Administrator" and "Peter". All my programs were reinstalled on "Peter". The computer would only reboot into "Administrator". I called back the engineer and he managed to disable "Administrator". Now when I reboot I get a dialog box telling me that "Administrator" has been disabled and asking me if I want to continue. After clicking "OK" I then get the user accounts screen, I click on "Peter" and the computer boots into "Peter". How can I get the computer to start immediately in "Peter" without all this extra malarky?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI had to do a nondestructive system recovery awhile back. Now my computer has only 120mb of memory. And I believe it's because of a user account that I use to use before I did the system recovery. This user account has a large amount of files on it, and I cant delete it. I don't have the option of loggin into this account because the user account is no longer at the welcome screen or in the Control Panel's User Account section. The only way I know that this user account is still on my computer is because I went to CDocuments & Settings and saw it there. It wont let me delete it because it says Cannot Delete: Access Denied.

When I delete a file from my computer it goes to the recycle bin. When I delete a file from my file server, which is using win2k as well, it does not go to the recycle bin on either computer. I cant rename the file,the context menu for the file is different than any other file, removing the Rename, Delete, and everything Useful... I cant open the File, btw was supposed to be a picture... Ive tried that technique you can use to rename a file, by clicking once on it selecting it, then clicking on the filename again, but beeps as if it was invalid. I have also tried safe mode, which also failed...
after doing a system recovery with a backup i found that the backup file is off no use to me anymore. The only problem is i can't delete it and it is taking up a large amount of space. I already tried going into safe mode to delete but it didn't work. i tried changing it from a read only folder but it says the file is either write protected or in use. i believe it may be somehow in use. if anyone knows how to delete this folder.

How do you clear the list of recent files? My wife is copying some old audio cassettes to CD. View 4 Replies View RelatedIm using WinXP pro. when i right click for a menu sometimes it takes up to 45 seconds for the menu to appear. Also when i delete a file (any size) i takes anywhere from 30 to 90 seconds for my delete file prompt to come up.
ive also reinstalled XP to no avail.
I am curious to know if "choice.exe" is spyware. I ran one of my anti-spyware programs last night and it listed choice.exe and it's partner file in the Prefetch folder as spyware. I went online and it gave it an "8" on the threat level from 1-10. I quarantined both files to see if I could get some advise before deleting them.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using a POWER USER account, Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 /w all the latest patches availible via microsoft update. I was trying to create a .zip file of a folder within the primary directroy of a backup hard drive I use.
For Example:
D:stuff - I wanted to make a zipfile of the folder "stuff."
Then I get the following error "Cannot Create Output File."
However, if I move the folder to the destop or a subdirectory i.e. stuff/more stuff, then the .zip file is created with no problems.
Also, because user accounts [at least in my experience] have a tendency to decay, I created a freash power user account and the same problem persist.
Is this a standard security feature for power user accounts? Is there anyway I can "disable" it if it is?
I would like to delete a folder without deleting its contents. Copy, Paste and then deleting the folder with its' contents etc can work. But is there any way of getting it as a windows context menu? ie right-clicking and selecting delete folder but not contents.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing Windows XP Home, I deleted an old user folder (JAMES), and created a new one reassigning myself as the administrator. Upon deleting, I clicked on 'Keep Files', expecting a shortcut to be available on my new desktop. There is no shortcut.
If I click on Explore, then the old User file (JAMES) I get the following error message: "C:Documents and SettingsJAMES is not accessible. Access is Denied."
If I right click the folder, and click on 'Sharing and Security', it tells me to drag the folder to the .Shared Documents' folder, as I get an error message: "Cannot create or replace JAMES: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use."
In addition, any changes I make to the Properties tab (un-click 'read only', click 'Share this folder') do not get saved after I click on 'Apply'. I cannot find any other Securities tab other than th 'Sharing' tab available on XP Home edition.
There are three seperate administrator user accounts on the copy of Windows Im using. I set up a user account password on one my account and it asked me if I wanted to disable file sharing or the ability for other accounts to view my files and I clicked yes. Now the other user accounts are unable to connect to the internet but I can connect under the account I put a password on.
