When I delete a file from my computer it goes to the recycle bin. When I delete a file from my file server, which is using win2k as well, it does not go to the recycle bin on either computer. Is there any I can tell the file to go to the recycle bin when they are deleted

Ive been using my computer for a few years, and it started to get full of crap. it also had alot of bugs so i decided to wipe the computer clean by using the 'master disk' that came with it.now, its suposed the wipe everything. but it didnt. it left my old user folder (in the documents and settings folder), which i cant access, delete or do anything with. its taking up around 80 GB of space on the computer.i need a way to delete this file.
after doing a system recovery with a backup i found that the backup file is off no use to me anymore. The only problem is i can't delete it and it is taking up a large amount of space. I already tried going into safe mode to delete but it didn't work. i tried changing it from a read only folder but it says the file is either write protected or in use. i believe it may be somehow in use. if anyone knows how to delete this folder.
I was running an original Windows XP and had made my documents inaccessible to other users. However, a worm attacked my dll files so i reinstalled Windows without formatting my hard drive. As a result, my old documents are still in my C: drive and i can't delete them to make space.
I have copied some files from my Mac to my PC. I get a file that starts with "._". I also get the file I copied. When I try to delete the file that starts with ._, I get a message saying cannot delete file, can't read source disk
When you create several files in a word processor or spreadsheet or other program, the program will list the files you recently created the next time you start it, down toward the bottom of the File button on the menu. How do you clear the list of recent files? My wife is copying some old audio cassettes to CD. When she is done with each cassette, she deletes the files from the computer but they still show up on the files menu. This bothers the heck out of her so she is bothering the heck out of me to get rid of the file listing.
I have a folder in My Documents labelled "Misc." I guess I gave it that name quite some time ago, but it is empty and I can't get rid of it. When I click on it I get, "Error deleting file or folder - Cannot delete file. Cannot read from the source file or disk."
My 2nd drive isn't allowing me to delete any files from it. when i try i get an error that reads "error deleting file cannot find specified path". this started occurring when the wires on the drive came loose causing the drive to intermittently lose power. i fixed that and now i'm screwed.what i've done: i tried deleting from safe mode and that didn't work. i checked all the wires on my drives and they are fine now. i got a program called "moveonboot" that deleted a few files, but i want to fix the problem, not find a way around it.
Im using WinXP pro. when i right click for a menu sometimes it takes up to 45 seconds for the menu to appear. Also when i delete a file (any size) i takes anywhere from 30 to 90 seconds for my delete file prompt to come up. ive also reinstalled XP to no avail.
I am curious to know if "choice.exe" is spyware. I ran one of my anti-spyware programs last night and it listed choice.exe and it's partner file in the Prefetch folder as spyware. I went online and it gave it an "8" on the threat level from 1-10. I quarantined both files to see if I could get some advise before deleting them.
After migrating my win xp pro system to a bigger hard drive using the Western Digital tools, everytime I try to empty the Recycle Bin, an error dialog pops up stating Error Deleting File or Folder: Access Denied..When I explore the Recycle Bin folder, it's empty. Then I try to empty the Recycle Bin again. The same message appears.
I downloaded a video file (12.2GB) from my digital video camera, made my movies and saved them, then I deleted the downloaded file but the memory (12.2GB) is still occupied on my system. After defragmenting my hard drive the report tells me the 12.2GB file is unable to be defragemented so I know the file is somewhere but I can not find the AVI file nor the folders RECYCLER or NPROTECT. This is eating a huge chunk of my hard drive and I need to get rid of it.
The other day, I was deleting unneeded files on my laptop. I deleted Think Vantage Access Connections, thinking it was just another space consuming file. After this my internet stopped working do you think it was because of the file. If so, what can I do to get it back and if not what can I do to connect to the internet. The laptop is not sending out a signal, and all the other phones, and computers are working in the house.
I have been trying to delete pics. When i press control and click on each pic to delete a bunch at one time, I get copies of the files im trying to highlight. I thought I was clicking on create shortcut, but it is creating a copy of all I have highlighted even before I get to the delete menu.
I downloaded a bios update from Dell. After using it, I can not delet it from my desktop. I get a message that says, " Close any programs that might be using this program and try again". This has happened to me one other time. The way I got rid of it that time was using "system restore". I would rather not do that this time.
When a virus problem was found, my friend eliminated a file when Norton advised him to do so . After deleting the file he now receives the below error message each time the computer is booted. crogra~1softwar~1soproc.exe
I did a google search on the runner error -Invalid Backweb Application ID "137903"-. A website told me to run a search for programs with "backweb" in them and unistall/delete them. I deleted one program (application?) from the C:/ drive and now my computer is frozen. The mouse moves; however, I am unable to open anything including the recycle bin so that I can put the program back on the computer. I have tried to restart and it still happens.
I have fixed this problem in the past in repair mode and i want to do the same with this, but, there is no filename at the end of the statement see below Windows could not start because the following file is corrupt or missing windowssystem32configsystem Can this be fixed in repair mode without having to be reformated or reimaged.
when accessing any application or programme from my hard drive I get the following error message "The file or directory c: is corrupt and unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility." I then click to get rid of the error message and the utility works fine. I have run chkdsk several times but it does not shift this error message.
My PC always reboot... anyway, when trying to reformat or to repair, this error found "INF file txtsetup.sif is corrrupt or missing, status 4096. Setup cannot continue.Press any key to exit." is this a virus? im using OS (windows xp sp2). Is there a way to retrieve my files using repair? because i have a lot of files there.
Im doing a clean, brand spanking new install on a machine that has no floppy drive. I have switched around the boot sequence in the BIOS to boot the CD ROM first, and that recognizes the disc ok. Windows formats the unpartitioned hard drive to NTFS. At first I got an error saying the NTFS.SYS file was corrupt, so I wiped everything out, and began again. This time I partitioned the hard drive first, and it seems to want to go futher, and I no longer get the NTFS.SYS error, but when it begins copying files, it hangs at about 18 percent when it starts copying 'driver.cab' and I get a Blue Screen saying PFN_LIST_CORRUPT.
If it's an exe it will just fail and say its corrupt If it's an archive like a rar at the end of extracting it will fail and say the volume is corrupt.
1-50MBs - sometimes corrupt 50-500MBs - usually corrupt 500-3GB - 100% of the time corrupt
I just boot up my computer and a black screen (which i've seen before and has only led to re-install XP) came up saying the following file is missing or corrupt: /system/ntfs32(I don't recall the exact file name - next time I will write it down). But i'm sure many have experience with this. Now somehow I was still able to enter Windows after reboot and F8 (never happened before - i've always had to re-install). What can I do NOW to prevent this next time from happening and perhaps (almost certain actually) having to re-install Windows XP? Can I get that file from somwhere? Am I missing a service Pack? I have SP2 for Windows XP Professional version 2002. (I double checked My Computer>Properties).
When trying to turn on my computer i get the following message: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: Windowssystem32configsystem You can attempts top repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair. i have done endless searches on my desktop to try to find a step by step out of this problem. i have followed such things as: >>Problem: You turn off your computer one day and then go to restart to find an error message that says: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt C:windowssystem32configsystem You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup CD-Rom. Select "r" at the first screen to start repair.
