I have Windows 8.1 running on my Acer Aspire V3-772G. Windows explorer crashes randomly, and restarts instantly.
Various solutions on the internet are for problems where explorer crashes due to a specific task such as accessing some programs. In my case, it is just random and occurs once in a while.

I have a problem that started yesterday. Every 30 seconds Windows Explorer (not the browser) crashes, then restarts. I run Xmarks within FireFox, I thought this was the problem because Xmarks as of yesterday asks me every 40 seconds if I want to sync my bookmarks, if I choose cancel, Windows Explorer will crash then restart.
When Firefox is closed, Explorer continues to crash and restart, almost every 30-35 seconds. I have Windows 8.1 up to date, with all the latest updates, FireFox is up to date. As of writting this post, Windows Explorer has crashed and restarted (5) times.
I have just installed windows 8.Whenever I connect the computer to the internet the windows gets crashed and computer restarts. Remedy if any?

View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is a strange issue that started happening to me a few weeks ago. On my laptop, I put the computer to sleep, then close the lid. To wake it up, I just open the lid. Recently, about 1/4 of the time I wake up my computer, the lock screen does not appear, but instead it seems that my computer crashes then restarts. I don't have any USB devices plugged into my laptop, just the power cord.

Sometimes I'll be on it and it will restart, sometimes I won't even be near it when it restarts. I've also had it freeze and then I come in the room and my tower sounds like a jet engine and I have to turn it off. Then yesterday the blue (as seen above) cascaded down my screen, froze and gave me the BSOD. I've had 3 crashes in less then 24 hours and I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think I have every driver updated, but maybe I'm missing something.
A couple of weeks ago my old PSU blew up. It did kind of like a explosion sound and some flashing, very impressive. I inspected the motherboard and I could not find any damage whatsoever. Only the PSU seemed affected.
After that I bought a new PSU (Tacens MP700 - 700W), an aftermarket CPU fan (Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO) and some extra chasis fan to improve air flow and lower the temperature. I plugged everything in, and system started with no apparent issues.
However since a few days ago sometimes my PC restarts without saying anything, some other time it just freezes (very annoying) and some other times it gives me a BSOD with the errors CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT. The frequency of these failures:
- Normal use like browsing, email, programming --> not very often
- Playing game like iRacing --> sometimes it freezes
- Playing game like PES2014 --> it always freezes, sometimes during the first match, sometimes after a 2-3 of them
After googling it appears is a hardware problem so I wonder if the damn PSU damaged some of my other components. The thing is the original PSU was intended to be for a quiet HTPC but I started to work from home and suddenly became a work station. I should have improved the PSU among with the other components (CPU, memory, etc.) but I did not think it was necessary. Bad decission I guess.
I've monitored temperature and it does not seem to be the issue as using a benchmark software at 100% CPU during 30 minutes temperature does not go over 65C on the CPU (I live in Spain where ambient temperature is around 30) and motherboard never pass 68-70. Right now while browsing temp is 35 for the CPU, 45 for the mobo and graphic, 30 for HDD. Pretty normal I think.
I have also upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 hoping it was a driver issue but not success either.

I recently purchased this Acer Aspire V3-531 laptop to replace my Acer Aspire netbook which had provided faultless service for 3 years. The new laptop works well, however, I have an intermittent problem when the laptop will shutdown/restart mostly straight after waking from sleep mode and once while idle.
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust the other day i was having problems with the Temporary profile problem, but by the end of the day i finally fixed it. But i also deleted my user account so i found this program that will restore deleted data, it was in trial mode so i only allowed me to download 1 Gb so i got what I thought was the most important like App data, contacts, desktop, documents, KAG, and all of the little files at the end of the screen.
I put all of the things in my account once the problem was fixed. Then every time i open my windows explorer and i try to open anything it says that windows explorer has crashed and then it restarts.
it crashes randomly (no BSOD, just a total crash with a weird lag sound). And when it does, I restart it and I check my CPU temp ... it's around 55C so I guess the problem ain't overheating.
Weird thing is it crashes when I'm not doing much (listening to music on Itunes, browsing on chrome) ... I don't play much games, but it never crashed during one.

I've got a small BSOD problem with my Windows 8.1 x64 installation. An hour ago my computer crashed while I wasnt near it (it only heard the restart peep). The last time it crashed I was able to note the error message, which stated:
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (nvlddmkm.sys)
After googeling a bit I found out, that the BSOD might be caused by bad drivers, so I enabled the Driver Verifier (following this instructions). I hope the crash dump mentioned in the driver verifier HowTo is included within the .zip. I've found another dump file under C:WindowsMEMORY.DMP but thats about 450MB, so I probably cant upload it here. After having a crash with the verifier active I dont know what to do now

Windows 8 x64 explorer keeps crashing and restarting randomly when trying to copy/paste, use context menus, right click options on folders and etc.

i bought a new laptop (HP Envy m6-1140sg) some weeks ago. I have Nortin Internet Security installed.
I wanted to try out that NIS Trial Reset because HP Laptops have NIS already installed. I rebooted my Laptop into safe mode with Network and then started it. I accidentally chose to Purge my NIS. I didn't know what purge means. . I opened the Trial Reset app again and chose to revert my trial to 60 days. Then it disappeared. I rebooted my laptop in Normal Mode and then tried to open NIS. But it didnt come up. I uninstalled NIS and then I noticed this:
When I try to open the Explorer on the desktop, the screen would just go blue and then Explorer closes itself. 2. When I right click a shortcut or anything the screen also goes blue. After the screen goes blue it would go normal again.
PS. I can only open Explorer when i open it through an other shortcut. ex. I got a shortcut to an directory (C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator XaerosoftAirbus X ExtendedDocumentation) That is the only way I can open Explorer, but as i said, the screen will go blue if I right click anything.
About since I installed jdownloader this afternoon (and afterwards removed "search protect" with AdwCleaner and Malwarebyte Anti-Malware), my Windows explorer regularly freezes.
It does so whenever I do a right-click on any folder or disk or on the free space inside a folder or disk. It also crashes whenever I open folder, which I have not recently opened or to which I added a big file (bigger than about 1 MB) recently. I could open some folders since this error came up but after adding a file to them, this is not possible anymore. Windows explorer being able to open some folders is probably due to it cashing/indexing some information. I can read everything using cmd (cd & dir) and execute files directly though.
In safe mode Windows explorer works fine.
What I did so far:
- Following this guide (Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers) I removed all the handlers in the registry in HKCRAllFileSystemObjectsshellexcontextmenuhandlers, HKCRFoldershellexcontextmenuhandlers and HKCRDirectoryshellexcontextmenuhandlers. Deletion of one handle in HKCRDirectoryshellexcontextmenuhandlers called "WorkFolders" only produces an error. I therefore could not delete this one. It did not work. Afterwards I recovered the registry keys.
- I used system recovery to switch back to a state from the day before yesterday.
- I tried disabling all the files in auto-start using the task-manager with no improvement.
- I ran "sfc /scannow", which told me there were some files it was unable to repair. I digged into the log and found the file sfc talked about. The file was completely missing. I got a copy from my notebook and managed to copy that file into the folder. But it didn't work.
What's more, I could not rerun sfc to see if the sfc-error persisted, because my computer froze during login after the restart (during which I also installed some minor Windows updates) and I had to force a restart. This brought up a bluescreen on the first two following restarts. On the third one, recovery came up and I chose automatic repair. After that the system could start again, but "sfc /scannow" now throws an error saying "There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart ...". I tried running "dims.exe /image:C: /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions" in the recovery console, which threw an error saying that it was unable to complete. I also tried rerunning the startup repair, which told me it was unsuccessful. sfc is still not running.
Additionally, and I think this started at about the same time, Avira cannot start its real-time protection anymore. I don't get any useful information out of it, just that it encountered some error. I reinstalled it twice, to no avail.
After updating windows 8 when I try to launch system properties, explorer hangs and restarts itself but I noticed that it gives me activation section Product ID:Not Available.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI often have 3,4,5 sessions of File Explore open at once. [old habit] I can use the keyboard to copy/paste, etc with no problem. But if I use the right mouse click to "copy" or check Properties, or anything else, file explorer freezes for a few seconds, then closes. In fact it closes all sessions and shows the default Windows screen [as if just booting up] and finally all the icons reappear. It takes about 15 seconds for the screen to return to normal.
Replacement mouse does the same. Right click works perfectly inside a file, like to copy text, etc, and inside every other program. Only in File Explorer does it totally crash, no matter if only one open or many.
when i am using IE10 my pc just hangs and does nothing, i have to press the power button to turns it off as nothing works.

I have bought a brand new sata cable, so thats ruled out, the drive is NOT dead, it works perfectly fine and is 100% healthy. the motherboard is not fried, that was just replaced not more than a month ago. the UEFI BIOS is up to date... basically as i said my drive just disapears.. some days ill be able to see it and access files, the next it will not show up in any program at all... I have tried seatools, it does NOT show up in there... im just about ready to throw this damn drive out the window...

1. Make a shortcut
2. RegEdit change the reboot value to 0
3. And checking the main properties of the Shutdown function and removing the "Fast Start" option.
None of them worked. Sometimes my windows is giving me "Light blue" screen where is sad face icon ( ) and said that something went wrong, system need to restart, but that is only sometimes.
When I am trying to shutdown, machine calms down, screens went to black but then, restart happens.
Don't quite understand what happened. My desktop computer restarted by itself, the screen came up blank with a beep. It does not goes to the desktop. What's going on?

I re-installed Windows 8 three times so far but no success.I keep getting the same error just when it tries to connect to internet.

I am using Dell Latitude D520 running in Windows 8. I just bought a new webcam, installed the drivers without any difficulties. But when I try to view my webcam, either Amcap, yahoo messenger, or any programs or websites that displays my webcam, Windows 8 would prompt me that my PC encountered an error and restarts.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I click the "shut down" button, the PC powers off for a moment and then just starts up again... I've tried disabling fast boot option in the power settings but that does nothing. Also every time my PC starts it says "Your PC ran into a problem" and some other info about on how it is a "system failure" and how I can send it to Microsoft. It also creates a MEMORY.DMP file in my System32 folder. This is really bugging me and it's happening since I reinstalled my Windows after getting a new motherboard, cpu and ram. Should I try reinstalling my Windows 8 again or is there a simpler solution to this? Also I have the latest version of BIOS and my system specs are:

I have successfully upgraded 2 Windows 8 pro media centre PC's, a desk top and a netbook, but the 3rd, gets stuck in a continuous loop.
After initiating the upgrade from the store, the download bar slowly works its way up to 50%, the installation process starts, and as soon as it gets to "getting your PC ready" the download process starts again from scratch. This is a very common problem, but Microsoft are still silent on the issue.
It is bad enough that I have to download the file 3 times, rather than just download one ISO, but this one download has now happened at least a dozen times.
All Windows 8 updates had been done and I have cleared the Windows Store cache.
The setuperr file gives

So my windows 8.1 installation became corrupted, so I backed up data and did a clean install after deleting all partitions.
After the install on the first boot, right after the process of "installing apps", it showed an error message saying an error occurred causing windows to restart, and created a memory.dmp file.
I just want to make sure this installation is stable before continuing to update to 8.1, especially after my previous issues. There are also some errors in the event log that I don't understand.
The errors came after install of Windows 8, as that was the key I had.

My windows 8 computer keeps on restarting many times without much gap, and inturn it leaves me a error code before it restarts, and the error code is 0x0000005D. For the first time in a day, the computer works properly for an hour or less, then it restarts continuously by showing that error message. Am unable to fix this because my computer won't stay for a longer time to check out the issue, I have less than a hour to check and solve the problem, so a solution to fix this kind of errors.
