Acer Aspire V3-531 Laptop Randomly Shuts Down / Restarts?
Sep 15, 2014
I recently purchased this Acer Aspire V3-531 laptop to replace my Acer Aspire netbook which had provided faultless service for 3 years. The new laptop works well, however, I have an intermittent problem when the laptop will shutdown/restart mostly straight after waking from sleep mode and once while idle.
As some program I use usually are not 100% compatible with Windows 8, I tried to format and put windows 7.
When I installed windows 7, the computer started to heat up and shut down too .. I was convinced that the problem was the BIOS. So I updated it from v2.04 to version 2.13.
I did not notice any difference and the computer continues to shut down. I had only to open a game for 30min.
I went back to change the BIOS to UEFI type and installed again windows 8.
With windows 8 computer already accelerates the fan and he does not turn off so many times.
As the UEFI BIOS type is recommended for windows 8, that have logic ...
However I still find that the computer does not work well. If I play something for 1hour, some times the computer shuts off and sometimes not.
The computer shuts down and after 2-3 seconds, it automatically turns on.
I think this is very strange ...
The fan speeds up a little, but she never arrives at full speed!
So I thought it was a problem in the version of BIOS and I have tried all the ways to replace the original version, v2.04.
Unfortunately, without success!
I no longer know what to do ...

maybe 2 weeks I get randomly BSODs, sometimes with "Multiple_IRP_Completed_Requests", sometimes with "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT" errors.
It felt to me that they appeared more often after starting the computer out of standby/hibernate. But today it happend while watching a video over HDMI. After starting, Windows tells me that it wants to send the following to Microsoft (just in case it's important):
But when i try to install Windows 8, it just doesnt install.it gives me following error :
I Tried everything.i performed a Clean install {deleted all partitions & installed on a new partition}
I even used ACER just UPGRADE ASSISTANT.The OS doesnt install. i tried freaking 15 times just trying to install that OS but still it just doesn't install.
My first build and am having problems with windows booting extremely slow, running buggy and shutting down on me randomly. It typically shuts down during strenuous tasks such as gaming and installation, but has shut down in the UEFI bios, once. When I boot back up I almost always get to the sign in menu but after putting in my password it takes a good 3-5 minutes before the start menu pops up. Sometimes it'll load up to a black screen where I can only use the mouse pointer, and access the task manager. Wondering if it's my motherboard or if it's just a driver problem. Running an ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 with an AMD 8350 black and an Sapphire 7870 XT with two sticks of cheap 4 GB 1333 MHz ram.

This started happening around 4 days ago but, since then I have system restored to a previous point and yet the problem has persisted. It has recently dropped below freezing around where I live which is unusual; however, I am in a dorm and the temperature has remained constant. I haven't really downloaded anything harmful that I am aware of in the past few days either. I also hope I got the dump files thing sorted out correctly considering there is no BSOD.
I have a Acer Aspire E1 570 laptop that I use for college, the laptop is less then 8 months old. For some reason recently it starting going dead at 40% battery charge remaining. I ran a powercfg -energy from the command prompt and it said that my batterys designed charge is 37000 and last full charge untill the battery read it was fully charged is 36526. I use the laptop on the battery all the time while i'm at school. I was thinking maybe just refresh the PC from the recovery i made using the provided software with the computer. I'm unsure if that would correct the issue.
I am currently typing on a Acer Aspire 6935. It originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium and then I bought a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. It took me a while and when I say a while, I mean about 10 weeks to find ALL of my correct drivers and this laptop is special because it has some fantastic speakers. So finding the right driver for the speakers was a pain in the... Without the drivers, my sound horrible. I want to upgrade to Windows 8 because I like the new interface and I like Windows 8.1 Update 1, however, my drivers are a problem. I found the correct drivers but I forgot where I downloaded it from. What can I do? If I upgrade to Windows 8, will it keep my drivers?
I have Windows 8.1 running on my Acer Aspire V3-772G. Windows explorer crashes randomly, and restarts instantly.
Various solutions on the internet are for problems where explorer crashes due to a specific task such as accessing some programs. In my case, it is just random and occurs once in a while.
I've just bought a new Acer Aspire V3 772G. My laptop crashes or reboot by itself every times i play a video game. Sometimes 5 minutes or 2 hours later.
-I update all the drivers from the Acer Website. -I've updated the Bios to 1.15 (the latest). -I've already run a memory test with Memtest86 during 10 hours : no single error. -I've run a CPU test with intel with intel Processor diagnostic. There's a warning which says CPU Frequency Test Passed with Warning!!!
The processor frequency could be affected by power management features. In order to ensure the processor frequency is not affected by a power management setting, enter BIOS, load defaults, and disable any 'Over-Clocking' or power management features that may affect processor frequency. Also, set any software applications which control power management features to default.
I didn't overclocked my CPU. I don't know whether it's overclocked or not. It's a second hand laptop.
-I've tried to test my graphic card with AtiTool but when i run it it says ''The Kernel Mode driver does not seem to be running A device driver is required for communication with your video hardware. -I've also run a hard disk test with HDtune and it seems that i have 381Mb as bad sector.

I have a New Windows 8 Acer Aspire V5-571P Touch Machine, Everytime I go to facebook homepage or a site that has a like button extention the whole system will freeze Things I have tried.
Clean Boot ReInstalled Chrome Removed All Extentions From Chrome (it worked for a few days then the problem appeared again)
It will freeze for 20-40 secounds then everything will be normal untill I reboot the system again?
This issue has been coming and going for the past month and the PC is only a few months new.
I'm starting to think its a hardware or major software issue sinced ive tried everything even re-installing Windows 8 that fixed it for a few days and then the issue re-apperaed and no I haven't downloaded anything that would of conflicted.
The issue does not appear in safe mode or firefox the last time I checked a few weeks ago.
My system started pausing/freezing, log files showing some errors about not finding some *.dll files. The system will still boot; I enabled the administrator account, but have lost the original user profile. All the docs/files are still there in the usual c:usersusername... directories. Installed Seagate's SEATOOLS app and it reported a failure, not completing the process. I used the recovery app from Acer and created a bootable recovery device (Seagate expansion portable drive) and a CD of drivers and apps. I am told this system has a small SSD, but it is hidden because it is for the OS, Windows 8.
I've put an identical replacement drive in; I changed bios to boot from the external USB device and it comes up in what appears to be recovery mode. I select option to completely refresh system, but it then comes up with "drive where windows is installed is locked". I select the reset option, it asks whether I want to re-partition. If I select yes, it returns 'unable to reset pc system drive cannot be found'. If I select no to repartition, it returns 'unable to reset. A required drive partition is missing.'
Using the recovery app, I can get to command prompt; it comes up as windows ver 6.2.9200, x:windowssystem32, The c: dir<enter> command returns efi (D), bootmgr, boot (D), bootmgr.efs and sources (D). I insert another usb stick and those files show up correctly.
Also, a byproduct of installing drive it indicates it can't find a battery now!
Why the reset or recovery options are not able to see the replacement drive? Since I used a Seagate expansion portable drive rather than a 16gb USB drive, is that the problem? I believe Windows 8 won't allow the use of a DVD for the recovery process (size issue?).
Could I consider doing a reformat and clean install of Win7 pro? Will I need to change the boot bios setting from UEFI to legacy? Would I still be able to reinstall Windows 8 at some point in the future if necessary, or should I try to work with the Windows 8 configuration?
Ok, acieved to downgrade/upgrade the BIOS version with the Acer XC-603 to be able to downgrade to Windows 7. Do i really have to delete all partition or can leave the recovery partiton un touched to always be able to recovery the original OEM Windows 8.1 that comes with the machine from out the factory? I always want to be able in case i mess up recover my Windows 8.1 installation thats pre installed on the recovery partition.
My laptop is one year old and is saying the boot configuration data file is missing some required information file:BCD error code 0xc0000034. I do not have a recovery disk or anything
I have an Acer Aspire V5-472P laptop. My problem is that the battery indicator on the taskbar is malfunction. It stays "100%" at least until 2-3 hours and now the battery life ends at around 50%. Before this, it was around 20% then 30% then 40% and now 50%! It just keeps on increasing and I don't know what the problem is! I have changed the advance power settings. There should be a warning for low battery but there's none! I feel like the battery life is getting lower too. Is there something wrong with my battery power apps or something? Or is it a BIOS problem? Or something else?
However I am experiencing problems with the sound. It just doesn't appear to be working, despite the volume being turned up to the max. The problem usually fixes itself briefly after a restart but it then cuts out after time.
None of the playback devices are muted. When I try testing the speakers, I get an error message saying "Device in Use: Please close any applications using this device for playing audio" - however, there doesn't appear to be any device using the speakers.
I have recently started using an HDMI cable to use my laptop through my TV
my laptop upon powering on i get an error message in the top left hand corner stating operator system not found or detected w/e also accessed bios screen via F2 and the HDD not found not to sure what HDD is i think its harddrive info would work. Anyways i purchased a five disk media restore which contains 1 system disk 3 part recovery media and 1 disc titled language. upon attempting to restore the loading gets hung up in the process also tried numerous times and sometimes wont even allow me to select a restore route.
I have had this AWFUL buzzing sound accompanied by what seems to be a frame or so of lag when playing video games, watching Youtube videos, or watching windows media player videos. It sounds like the buzzing sound when you get a blue screen of death and it occurs about every 30 seconds. It comes through the speakers and I have tried different earphones to no avail. I found a youtube video showing the EXACT same sound I recieve! Url....
It's the buzzing sound about 3-7 seconds into the video. My buzzing / stuttering is nowhere near as severe-at least not yet. In fact it seems to have started about week ago, very rarely I was hearing some static while watching youtube videos but it wasn't much and I figured it was from the headphones. I've been having all kinds of problems with my disk and memory usage. I've had some programs hogging outrageous amounts of my disk such as windows protection and now periodically, windows modules installer worker. Something is wrong. This should be a powerful laptop more than capable of handling basic idle windows. Even when I have just firefox and windows media player open.Is something like windows media player supposed to take so much of my disk? I have updated everything I can including my graphics card and the sound drivers.
I wanted to install w7 so i accidentally formatted some drives. then noticed i cant install w7 because of the gtp partition. as you can see in the pic partition 1 the recovery one looks like it wasn't formatted( i cant remember as i formatted the partitions 3 months ago) so is there any way i can use that recovery partition to restore windows 8
I have tried the alt+F10 menu. none of the following ways in the menu let me restore or reset the laptop. i tried all of the options in the picture none worked
So I am left with an laptop with no os how can i restore the pre installed Windows 8 or install w7 (i have a w7 cd)
My friends were playing around with my old laptop which was an Acer aspire v5 with a core i3 by trying to guess my pin. No matter how many times they tried, it wouldn't lock or anything. I got that laptop replaced because it was malfunctioning. The replacement was practically the same model but with a core i5. Again, a friend tried to guess my pin but after a lot of tries, the pin entry box disappeared and got replaced by a password entry box.
I forgot my password because I rely too much on my pin which is shorter and easier to remember and the "sign-in options" button disappeared so I can't log in with my pin. I also can't log-in using my Microsoft account password which I changed. I'm pretty sure this isn't because of the model change. Oh and another detail is that my old laptop's OS was windows 8 when my friends played with it while my new one's OS is windows 8.1. I have really important files there and it's new so I haven't had time to back-up.
A couple of weeks ago my old PSU blew up. It did kind of like a explosion sound and some flashing, very impressive. I inspected the motherboard and I could not find any damage whatsoever. Only the PSU seemed affected.
After that I bought a new PSU (Tacens MP700 - 700W), an aftermarket CPU fan (Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO) and some extra chasis fan to improve air flow and lower the temperature. I plugged everything in, and system started with no apparent issues.
However since a few days ago sometimes my PC restarts without saying anything, some other time it just freezes (very annoying) and some other times it gives me a BSOD with the errors CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT. The frequency of these failures:
- Normal use like browsing, email, programming --> not very often - Playing game like iRacing --> sometimes it freezes - Playing game like PES2014 --> it always freezes, sometimes during the first match, sometimes after a 2-3 of them
After googling it appears is a hardware problem so I wonder if the damn PSU damaged some of my other components. The thing is the original PSU was intended to be for a quiet HTPC but I started to work from home and suddenly became a work station. I should have improved the PSU among with the other components (CPU, memory, etc.) but I did not think it was necessary. Bad decission I guess.
I've monitored temperature and it does not seem to be the issue as using a benchmark software at 100% CPU during 30 minutes temperature does not go over 65C on the CPU (I live in Spain where ambient temperature is around 30) and motherboard never pass 68-70. Right now while browsing temp is 35 for the CPU, 45 for the mobo and graphic, 30 for HDD. Pretty normal I think.
I have also upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 hoping it was a driver issue but not success either.
Find attached the SF report. Added new crash info:

I bought an Acer Aspire V3-571G brand new a few weeks ago and I'm sending it back for a refund. I'm currently having problems with formatting it. I need to remove all my personal information from the laptop but Windows 8 was pre-installed with no recovery disks in the box. When I try to format the main drive it says I can't because thats where Windows 8 is installed and running from. This is my view from Disk Management:
As of a few days ago, none of the apps in the "windows" menu will open. My Store also will not boot. It opens, animates, and closes. I've tried many solutions, none of which have worked. *Note*: My resolution has not changed. It is still 1366x768.
Solutions I've tried: 1. Changing resolution: fail 2. Running "sfc /scannow" in CMD in admin mode. Result: stops at 53%, says it it unable to fix corrupted files Also tried opening the .log file. Says I'm not an administrator, when I have set my profile to admin. (I am the only user) 3. Clean boot, attempted to "sfc /scannow": fail 4. Using Microsoft account and local account. (I used a local account originally and tried switching to an MS account. This did not fix it.) 5. System "Refresh": says it is unable to complete refresh after reboot. 6. UAC was not changed, although I tried playing with the settings. Did not work. 7. My Anti-Virus has not been modified in any way. No firewall should be affecting this. 8. This happens on any internet connection.
I really do not want to resort to restoring the computer to factory settings.
I have an Acer Aspire M7710 which I installed Windows 8 on.
I wanted to use the reset windows option under the advanced settings option. After selecting the reset option it said it would reboot. This was about 5 hours ago and all I have had is a black screen.
Eventually I powered off my computer after 4 hours waiting as something seemed wrong. When I powered my PC back on I get nothing, just a black screen again.
I thought I would just boot from the Windows 8 dvd and reinstall but for some reason I can't boot from dvd anymore.
I googled around looking for option how I could enter my bios or change the boot order for cd/dvd but I can't get any keyboard shortcuts to let me boot from dvd or enter the bios.
I upgraded to Windows 8 and now I noticed that the headphones won't work. First I followed some troubleshooting that concluded on uninstalling the audio drivers including some Intel version of the driver and then when I rebooted then the sound worked.
Now it happened again and I really don't want to be uninstalling the driver every time I want to use the headphones. I downloaded the latest driver on Intel site and updated but no results.
I checked on sound settings and there are no headphones detected. Maybe there is some way of forcing the detection.
Name of the Intel to driver: AUD_Win8_Win7_6.0.1.6914_PV.exe
I have Acer v5 touch which I only just purchase A few weeks ago. For some reason every 30 minutes the internet keeps dropping out, When the system Carn't connect I can connect to the internet with my tablet just fine so I dont know if its the router?
My family has reported that there having issues aswill but it seems to be at diffrent times. So I carn't tell if its the computer or network dropping out, I have read that acer has had previous wifi issues a few months ago. This leaves me comfused and how to fix the problem. Its A brand new machine so if it is the laptop why am I already facing issues with it??
I have windows 8 installed on my Acer Aspire TimelineX and everything is working great, but sometimes I have the battery indicator, and sometimes I don't , I hate not knowing when my laptops gunna die.
