I am trying to extend the taskbar to my 2nd monitor on Windows 8.1
I tried to use the tutorial on this site but I don't have any of those options. This is what it looks like for me:

PS - If it makes a difference: Primary computer resolution: 3200 x 1800 2nd monitor: 1920 x 1200
I have 3 monitors attached to the PC and I would like 2 of the to display metro and the 3 just for normal desktop, is this possible? Also, is is possible to make it so Metro doesn't hide when i interact with a desktop application?

Apparently there's supposed to be a checkbox that reads "Show store apps on taskbar" but that isn't there! I have a version of Windows 8.1 that doesn't have this option. I really liked this feature. This worked for me until I installed a fresh installation of Windows 8.1.

I would like to be able to have different programs pinned to each monitor, i.e. display 1's taskbar would have calculator, chrome, and utorrent pinned to it, and then display 2's taskbar would have download folder, wow, xbmc, etc pinned to it.
I cant seem to have individual programs pinned to each display - its either have all of the same pinned programs on both taskbar, or none on the extended taskbar.
Some weeks ago, I noticed an odd problem with my taskbar.
While using my laptop at home, I use an exterior monitor to extend my desktop, and usually set the monitor as my primary. Occasionally, I would notice that my open apps would appear to be greyed-out (and therefore un-clickable) on my secondary screen. All the pinned apps would be full colour, but would only respond to clicking as if I was starting a new version of the app (e.g. a new browser window rather than switching to the existing one).
It appears as though a second "ghost" taskbar was over top the main one, and only on one screen. This ghost taskbar would block any attempt to click on the taskbar underneath. Unlocking the taskbar and moving it, for example, to the side, would confirm this as the ghost taskbar would drag and snap to the edge, leaving the normal taskbar at the bottom of the (same) screen.
The ghost taskbar would disappear (or perhaps merely move behind the main taskbar) if the taskbar is swapped with the primary screen (causing the tray to move over).
A reload of Windows Explorer via Task Manager seems to be a temporary fix, as is restarting the computer. However, this issue may appear multiple times per session, and within a short time of any reload/restart. This also does not seem to occur when using only the laptop screen.
I do not run any desktop customization software, and have triple-checked for any Windows, Microsoft, or driver updates. I am moderately competent in doing repairs to the computer so long as I have reasonably detailed instructions on how to do the fix.
I have multiple sites open at the same time and it's stacked one a top another in my browser on the taskbar. Is there a way to move these sites around to put it in a different order?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed an update this morning (the little action center flag in the bottom corner of the desktop told me to), after which my start screen displays nothing except the background, whenever I search for anything it says "This app can't be searched". Nothing relating to the start screen can open, so I pressed 'Windows + r' to get myself to desktop. I can open IE in desktop but can't view in start. System Restore failed and no matter how many times I try it will not work. When I look through Control Panel at the recently installed updates I can't find the one I installed this morning. next step is to do a system refresh - but there's a catch.
I can swipe in to bring up the charms bar (that's what it's called, right?), and I then click on settings. At the bottom i select "Change PC Settings", but along with every other part of Modern UI, nothing happens. As far as I know, from this menu that I cannot open is the only possible way to do a system refresh/reset, thus I am stuck with an inoperable operating system.
On a 1920 x 1080 display, windows 8 looks too small, is there any way to increase it without changing the resolution ?

I'm not sure what to type into the search... I get C++ , cloud storage, driving conditions in India and New York, driving games.
I hate having to jump to desktop > my computer to see how much is left.
I re-enabled desktop gadgets but they are still are terribly ugly... and are always "group" with other info I dont want like cpu speed, etc.
The Troubleshoot icon that should be under the 'Advanced Startup' Option is missing. System is a new Dell Latitude 10 ST2 Tablet running Windows 8. Have access to 9 other identical tablets, all configured the same and they all have the Troubleshoot Option. Have tried multiple methods of getting to "Advanced Startup" display (including Safe mode, 'shutdown /r /o', etc.), but all result in only having the 'Continue', 'Use a Device', and 'Turn Off your PC' options - No Troubleshoot. Other than missing this icon, system is working fine. Shy of wiping the disk and starting over.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI built a computer recently. Since day one I get BSODs but the drivers, and Bug/Checks listed are never the same.I was thinking it couldn't be a single device or driver so I've:
Replaced the MOBO.
Repair Installed the OS.
Replaced the RAM.
It BSOD'd multiple times between each change.
The only things I've run are IE/FF and Ableton Live 9. Ableton is usually running during the BSOD but it was not the last time.

That's my partition list, and I want to extend Unallocated drive (that I recently used for Ubuntu) to drive C or D, but I can't do that because I can't click "Extend Volume" at drive D.

I'm trying to extend my desktop screen on my TV. I have my laptop connected through an HDMI cable to the TV. When I choose extend desktop, nothing is shown on the TV. The TV is blank. Windows does detect the TV screen because both displays show up in the "Screen resolution" dialog. The TV also indicates that it has a signal.
The screen has been extended because when I move the mouse to edge of the screen, instead of stopping, it keeps going. When I drag a window, it does not stop at the edge but it keeps going. However, neither the mouse or the window is shown on the TV. Of course, I can move the mouse and window back to the laptop.
I have a Dell Inspiron laptop, Windows 8.1, Intel Core i3-4010u, 6GB RAM, Integrated Intel HD graphics. I have Sceptre X325BV-FMDR TV. Not sure if this is an issue with my TV or laptop.
I have a Windows 8 system on a SSD with about 200gb free on the left of the C: partition (left over from previous OS I dual booted). The ssd is gpt partitioned and boots using EFI.
I tried moving the partition to the left using Gparted which worked but windows wouldnt boot. I tried recreating the bcd files with no success. After doing some research I was lead to believe it was due to keys under HKLMSystemMountedDevices having the partition offset hardcoded as it would start to boot windows then crash with an error saying boot device inaccessible.
I got it booting again by moving the partition back to the correct position and recreating the bcd files again.
So are there any guides or tools that can move the partition to the left and update the relevant areas of windows so that it can boot? Or extend the partition to the left without breaking it?
Just upgraded to 8.1. Now, it won't let me extend my desktop to a second display like I had with 8.0 ....
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter installing Windows 8 my computer had four partitions; I thought they'd be fine but want to change it to have two big ones, one for Media and one for typical C: usage. I moved everything out of D: to delete the volume so I would have free space to the right of C:, which I've read is what you need to do in order to extend partitions using Disk Management. However, the option is still greyed-out when right-clicking C: as shown:
I did this because I've read mixed things about using 3rd-party software to extend partitions; some that don't truly extend it and just trick your computer into merging the two... I like doing things the purest way possible and would like to truly combine C: with the free space to the right of it. Why the option is not available?
After installing Windows 8 on my main partition C, it is getting nearly full. So, I just have tried to merge some free space from Partition F in Disk Management. But, that doesn't work. Some people tell me that is because the free space is not adjacent to my C partition. I don't know whether it is right. I simply want to extend my C partition successfully.

deleting the D:volume partition is easy but then Im left with empty partiton , I want to extend this to c: so that my c:418 goes back to 464gig.

I'm using Windows 8.1pro,also I use HDMI to sometime output video files on a TV screen,that works fine. HDMI cable is always plugged in,primary display is set to my computer monitor.I don't always use TV screen and because of existing cable connection my OS extends image to second screen and my mouse cursor alway disappear when it goes to borders,that is an annoying situation,is there a way to disable/eanble extend display on second screen without unplug the cable,just like I can set default output sound device (computer/hdmi sound) ?

I'm not sure what it means but how do I get the extended volume to be a Basic volume?
I have 2 Devolo AV 200 Smart, 2 Devolo 200, 1 TP-Link 300 Mbps Wi-Fi Range Extender being fed from a TP-Link N600 ADSL2 Modem Router. All great working together. Recently my wife got, (from the Amazon Vine program), Sagemcom F@ST plug, 501P/502W. Can I mix the different make's to extend the Wi-Fi and LAN coverage throughout my house? I might need to get some more, Homeplugs, at a later date, when the decorating is finished in the other rooms. The Sagemcom plugs, apparently, are paired to each other at manufacture, no setup required and they will associate automatically with each other once plugged into the ring circuit. Will the Sagemcom associate with the Devolo's?

I have had to do a complete reset of my computer recently and ever since I did that I have not had the option of putting my computer to sleep even after checking all my drivers to see if they are up to date. I am also having a problem where when I turn on my computer It will stay a black screen even though all signs point to it working just nothing shows on the screen. After a complete shutdown by holding the power button and turning it back on it works but doesn't let me get into BIOS.

Question: What would be a secure plan to be able to restore a new disk to a near-current state?
I'm thinking a second HDD and something like Acronis and bypass the MS backup tools. Or perhaps boot from the install DVD and use Macrium Reflect.
