How To Extend Desktop Screen On TV

I'm trying to extend my desktop screen on my TV. I have my laptop connected through an HDMI cable to the TV. When I choose extend desktop, nothing is shown on the TV. The TV is blank. Windows does detect the TV screen because both displays show up in the "Screen resolution" dialog. The TV also indicates that it has a signal.
The screen has been extended because when I move the mouse to edge of the screen, instead of stopping, it keeps going. When I drag a window, it does not stop at the edge but it keeps going. However, neither the mouse or the window is shown on the TV. Of course, I can move the mouse and window back to the laptop.
I have a Dell Inspiron laptop, Windows 8.1, Intel Core i3-4010u, 6GB RAM, Integrated Intel HD graphics. I have Sceptre X325BV-FMDR TV. Not sure if this is an issue with my TV or laptop.

I'm using Windows 8.1pro,also I use HDMI to sometime output video files on a TV screen,that works fine. HDMI cable is always plugged in,primary display is set to my computer monitor.I don't always use TV screen and because of existing cable connection my OS extends image to second screen and my mouse cursor alway disappear when it goes to borders,that is an annoying situation,is there a way to disable/eanble extend display on second screen without unplug the cable,just like I can set default output sound device (computer/hdmi sound) ?

I've tried just about everything, but can't seem to find a setting to stop this action. The screen on my laptop (Sony Flip 15A, intel4400/geforce735) seems to increase and decrease in brightness between screens. It's rather annoying not just because of the change, but also because it takes several seconds to occur and it occurs in discrete steps. I'm running the latest drivers from both intel and nvidia. I've tried turning off adaptive brightness and disabling the sensor service, and all effects (fade in, UAC, etc) have been turned off. A video of the condition is shown below:

It even happen when no programs are opening/closing - for example, if I view a dark background web page and then a lighter background, the brightness shifts. I can't imagine how awful this will be in photoshop.

I have something to ask about my partition problem here :
That's my partition list, and I want to extend Unallocated drive (that I recently used for Ubuntu) to drive C or D, but I can't do that because I can't click "Extend Volume" at drive D.
What I supposed to do ?

I have a Windows 8 system on a SSD with about 200gb free on the left of the C: partition (left over from previous OS I dual booted). The ssd is gpt partitioned and boots using EFI.
I tried moving the partition to the left using Gparted which worked but windows wouldnt boot. I tried recreating the bcd files with no success. After doing some research I was lead to believe it was due to keys under HKLMSystemMountedDevices having the partition offset hardcoded as it would start to boot windows then crash with an error saying boot device inaccessible.
I got it booting again by moving the partition back to the correct position and recreating the bcd files again.
So are there any guides or tools that can move the partition to the left and update the relevant areas of windows so that it can boot? Or extend the partition to the left without breaking it?

After installing Windows 8 my computer had four partitions; I thought they'd be fine but want to change it to have two big ones, one for Media and one for typical C: usage. I moved everything out of D: to delete the volume so I would have free space to the right of C:, which I've read is what you need to do in order to extend partitions using Disk Management. However, the option is still greyed-out when right-clicking C: as shown:
I did this because I've read mixed things about using 3rd-party software to extend partitions; some that don't truly extend it and just trick your computer into merging the two... I like doing things the purest way possible and would like to truly combine C: with the free space to the right of it. Why the option is not available?

After installing Windows 8 on my main partition C, it is getting nearly full. So, I just have tried to merge some free space from Partition F in Disk Management. But, that doesn't work. Some people tell me that is because the free space is not adjacent to my C partition. I don't know whether it is right. I simply want to extend my C partition successfully.

New Laptop - I successfully resized, partition 600gb to 500gb --- 100gb unallocated space as i thought Iwill dual boot (8 MONTHS Ago).
Decided dont want to - Want to know EXTEND unallocated space - But CANT
I easily shrinked it but cant extend it. When right clicking the "extend" is faded out and i cant click it.
No luck with Esus partion manager ...

disk management won't allow me to extend empty 46GB volume.
Do I need to do an Fdisk ? or use a third party program to do this ?
Before I do this I must create a windows setup disk because I do not have one at the moment , all I have is a Dell usb Restore.
deleting the D:volume partition is easy but then Im left with empty partiton , I want to extend this to c: so that my c:418 goes back to 464gig.

I have Windows 8.1 x64, I have a 1TB drive attached on USB 3.0 port, the disk has four partitions, two are not allocated, I am trying to extend the volume on one of the active partitions, a Healthy, Primary partition but I get a message "The operation you selected will turn the selected disk(s) to Dynamic disk(s).
I'm not sure what it means but how do I get the extended volume to be a Basic volume?

I have 2 Devolo AV 200 Smart, 2 Devolo 200, 1 TP-Link 300 Mbps Wi-Fi Range Extender being fed from a TP-Link N600 ADSL2 Modem Router. All great working together. Recently my wife got, (from the Amazon Vine program), Sagemcom F@ST plug, 501P/502W. Can I mix the different make's to extend the Wi-Fi and LAN coverage throughout my house? I might need to get some more, Homeplugs, at a later date, when the decorating is finished in the other rooms. The Sagemcom plugs, apparently, are paired to each other at manufacture, no setup required and they will associate automatically with each other once plugged into the ring circuit. Will the Sagemcom associate with the Devolo's?

Since upgrading to 8.1 I have started going directly to the Start Screen from the Lock Screen. Before in Windows 8, I went to Desktop. I have my taskbar at the bottom of Desktop which contains all the icons I want to access and it means now I am going back to Desktop from the Start. How can I organize my laptop that I don't directly to Start Screen from Lock Screen but go to Desktop?

Is there a way to make the desktop button/tile/link to the desktop on the start screen to be a different image besides what is really on your desktop screen?
For example, lets say I want a photo of deep space on my tile desktop button, but don't want that image as my desktop screen. Just the tile.

I'm on a desktop, so I don't want to get any of those hints of what wonderful things I could do if this was on a touchscreen.
why would it show these things on a non-touchscreen anyway?!
I can not click this away! Can't work like this.
Is there some setting to disable these hints and the sidebars that slide in from left and right?

I'm waiting to see if this old hardy perennial will work on the new Windows 8.1 when booting directly to the desktop.
You can currently bypass the Windows welcome screen at boot time quite simply (although on Win 8 it simply takes you immediately to the start screen).
Simply do this to sign in automatically at startup:
Log On User Account Automatically at Windows 8 Startup
Reboot machine -- and you will be taken straight to the start screen.

My mouse works fine on the tile screen, but won't click when on the desktop screen. It moves fine and if I move it to the corner I can click on the setting button, but its anything on the desktop,or programs that run from the desktop that are effected.

I want to be able to screen mirror from my W.81 desktop wired to my TV thru Xbox 360 and Roku 3 without having to buy yet another device (Miracast) to do so. I know this can be done via Devices/Play/Xbox/IE App but the problem is that most content won't play properly with the IE App-IE browser yes but not the App for some reason. This same content will play on Chrome but I can't screen mirror with Xbox with Chrome. I really want to be able to do this without spending more money.

I have a Windows 8 HP laptop and the screen is just flashing. I have looked through other users posts and tried a few things but nothing is fixing the issue. I can't get past the flashing screen to enter Control panel, Safe boot or anything as the flashing is preventing me getting anywhere!! Lots of photos not backed up so don't want to lose them!

I deleted the default desktop tile (the one that shows your desktop wallpaper) from the start screen. I've tried Recuva to see if I could still recover the file, and searched the internet and the installation disk. Unfortunately, the file it is nowhere to be found... Is there's another way to retrieve it?

Is there a way to add the start screen I.E. tile, to my desktop from the start screen?
how can I get the I.E. shortcut icon back onto my desktop screen?

After start-up and when I click on the desktop tile, my windows 8.1 HP Envy laptop flickers between the Start up screen with all the tiles to the desktop then to a blue screen then back to the Start up Screen with all the tile and so on.
Can't seem to get off that merry go-round. HP Tech support has me hitting the F11 key to get me to recovery manager so I can back up my files.

Right out of the blue, windows 8 loaded up painfully slow so i restarted my HP g6 laptop.After restarting the laptop the user login screen appeared fine fine but as soon as i login the metro tile screen flashes to a default coloured desktop screen and back to to the metro screen every second. It is continous and you can't access anything as the screen jumps to the other one before you can even do anything!
My laptop is only a few months old and there has been no hardware change/upgrade.I managed to get into the system restore and restored to a point a few days before this issue started but, when the laptop restarted, the issue remain and the screen jumped between the 2 screens.
There are no error msgs or any can of beeps that appear. There was nothing of any note that happened prior to this issue occurring and the laptop worked fine until this issue.
