My mouse works fine on the tile screen, but won't click when on the desktop screen. It moves fine and if I move it to the corner I can click on the setting button, but its anything on the desktop,or programs that run from the desktop that are effected.
Bought windows 8, and everything immediately opens if my mouse is over. I don't click, it is just over a link, or an app, and it is opens. And YES, I did not chose at mouse setup, the function. What to do?
It seems Windows 8.1 doesn't like my old graphic card drivers like Windows 8 did. In many cases when turn on my machine it boots to desktop but it doesn't show it - it just shows my mouse cursor and pure black background. When i click the power button tho, the desktop pops up for a second then the shutting down screen appears. After few reboots i finally managed to get to the desktop and use my computer (chances are 1:5 reboots lol).
I followed some tutorials i found on the internetz , explaining how sometimes ATI and NET framework 3.5 doesn't work together - this is not the case 'cause i tried following this tutorial to uninstall , clean and reinstall the latest drivers available for my crappy videocard + NET framework. Didn't worked...
I noticed something interesting while booting to Windows. IF there will be black screen with cursor - the boot time takes 1-2 seconds, IF everything will be alright - the boot process will take about 25 seconds. (just thought i should tell you this as well)
And finally here's my configuration: Pentium 4 , 3.2GHz ATI Radeon X550 2GB DDR2 RAM
whenever I right click on the desktop to sort my icons windows 8 freezes and its explorer starts. I've installed my graphics card driver and it still won't like me get the right click menu is there any way to fix this?
How can we reset the size of the screen that is presented after clicking on a tile in windows 8? I have two monitors and have my desktop going across both monitors the way I like it. However when you click on a windows 8 tile, the screen it brings up fills both monitors. its annoying because whatever I am viewing is centered down the middle of two monitors and trying to read it is awful. I want to be able to set the window size that appears after clicking a tile to be half a screen (only one monitor). How to accomplish this? I know you can go to desktop mode and it will be sized however I like it, but I need to change the size of the windows after clicking the tile.
I'm using windows 8.1, 2 Screens detected and using the feature extend, however when I slide my mouse to the right it will not move to the next screen like it did on Windows 7, instead it opens the menu (the Windows+C menu).
I have been using Windows 8. Very often when I am on the internet or on the desktop screen and I move my finger on the mouse pad, the Start screen automatically comes on. This happens when I move my finger on the mouse pad and the screen automatically goes to the Start screen. Something that would prevent the computer screen moving to the Start screen even when I do not want that screen.
My Windows8PC shows black screen with only mouse cursor instead of login screen. I tried chkdsk but it shows no errors. Even when i start in safe mode the screen stays black. I think it's a graphic driver problem, but i dont know how i can deactivate or delete the installed driver via cmd.
On a new custom built desktop, running Windows 8, I am having the annoying problem with the mouse lagging or sticking on the screen. It can do this differently at times, depending on what program I am in. For instance, on the desktop a few moments ago, just running the mouse pointer back and forth slowly across the screen, it would tend to stick for a couple of seconds when in line with the icons that are on the right side of the screen. As if there was an imaginary line stopping it. In Internet Explorer, it did not want to go to the upper right area where the favorites and home icons are. But at times, the mouse is perfect.
I've upgraded my video card drivers right from the manufacturer's website. It as if something runs in the background intermittently and hangs the mouse for a second or two.

The task manager was showing processing was a little high so I ended tasks I thought shouldn't be running like the store and then I ended what i thought was internet explorer, but it was windows explorer and it black screened and when I restarted it the mouse stopped working and I kept trying to do stuff i thought would work and restarting and then the keyboard also stopped working.
I am using Windows 8.1 with all the latest updates.
I'm trying to get into safe mode, but when I do it is only a black screen with in each corner it says "Safe Mode" and the whole screen blinks every few seconds resetting the cursors position. The cursor and text are only visible when I am moving the mouse, otherwise it's all black. I can't do any button combinations like CTRL ALT DEL or anything.
Normal mode works fine, and I can't think of any viruses/malware that work allow you to work in normal... but not safe mode.
I have all my Windows 8 options disabled (Windows 8 mode, fast boot, secure boot) to see if it was those but to no avail.
Every time I try, I have to go into safe mode. It sticks, so I can't just reboot/reset and go back into normal mode. I have to go into the emergency cmd and do bcdedit to delete the safeboot value.
I usually clean my PC every so often, the same with OS re-installation but nothing is wrong with the normal mode and the OS still seems quite fast with the SSD.
I have never seen safe mode function, this is the first attempt at running it in safe mode. What could cause this? I can't get into safe mode but can get into normal mode...
After i updated to Windows 8.1, I logged in and everything was gone, Just a black Screen and the mouse was visible and able to move but nothing else. I've tried Safe Mode, didn't work and i also went to Task manager to see if it would do anything and it didn't.
I tried updating to Windows 8.1 Update 1 and in didn't go through properly (it hard froze and crashed) and now won't boot past the BIOS. I cannot get into Windows and I cannot get into the Recovery Menu.
I tried recovery USB's and any I create either from a 3rd party or Windows itself results in loading to a black screen with a mouse cursor. Only one worked, Acronis (probably because its Linux) and it showed all the drives ruling out a hardware issue but sadly it cannot repair Windows.
So it seems I might be a victim of the black screen issue some had when moving to Update 1.... BUT the difference is I cannot boot into the recovery menu at all and any recovery media boots to a black screen.
How to get out of this screen and actually boot into anything which will allow me to try to fix the MBR or go back to a restore point.
I thought the point of recovery software was that it loads no matter how corrupted Windows is... obviously not! Something is stopping all of them booting properly.
I have a problem in my dual boot machine. I decided to remove Linux mint 17 from my dual boot with windows 8. I used easeus partition manager to delete the partitions associated (root, home and swap). Then I got unallocated space just before my windows partition. So I moved my windows partition to the extreme left possible. Then I merged this unallocated space with my second storage partition.
These steps required reboot (specifically the moving of windows partition). When I rebooted my PC I got an error that grub was not found. I realized that I had forgot to fix MBR and load windows boot loader. So I used windows 7 recovery disk (yes windows 7 as I don't have windows8 recovery or installation disk). I got a windows 7 style boot loader instead of windows 8's graphical one which has advanced recovery options built in. But I proceeded. Then eases did its job with the partitions. After a reboot now I am stuck at a black screen after entering my password with a movable mose cursor. I can only press Ctrl+alt+del. Selecting task manager from it does nothing.
Since I don't have windows 8 disks and windows 8 boot loader I am not able to refresh or reset my PC. Neither can I shift restart my PC to get advanced boot options. One more thing to note, that while entering password, I noticed that the lock screen and account pictures have changed to defaults of a freshly installed windows.
I've tried just about everything, but can't seem to find a setting to stop this action. The screen on my laptop (Sony Flip 15A, intel4400/geforce735) seems to increase and decrease in brightness between screens. It's rather annoying not just because of the change, but also because it takes several seconds to occur and it occurs in discrete steps. I'm running the latest drivers from both intel and nvidia. I've tried turning off adaptive brightness and disabling the sensor service, and all effects (fade in, UAC, etc) have been turned off. A video of the condition is shown below:
(Vimeo was taking forever to process)
It even happen when no programs are opening/closing - for example, if I view a dark background web page and then a lighter background, the brightness shifts. I can't imagine how awful this will be in photoshop.
My computer freezes when I right click on Defrag from the search menu. When trying to open it, nothing happens. I am able to get to defrag from the control panel.
Ive got a bit of annoying problem with one of my Windows 8 computers. For some reason when I right click in the bottom left corner the administration tools don't appear like they do on other computers. Oddly though they do work fine on the same computer using another user account.
I use a roaming profile and I've tried deleting it and allowing it to be reloaded but that hasn't worked.
Edit: just want to add that the administration tools menu works fine on all other windows 8 computers using the same roaming profile.
I installed Windows 8.1 earlier and had this (apparently common) watermark error on the desktop about SecureBoot having a problem.
I went into my BIOS, made sure it was enabled, and then set up some kind of "key" that the directions said to do. I clicked save and exit, and after that instead of booting into Windows, I'd be at a black screen, everything running inside my computer, and with my keyboard and mouse both turning on at the same time, then turning off at the exact same time 3-4 seconds later along with a quiet sort of clicking sound inside the computer. Over and over, looping endlessly.
I opened it up, checked connections, removed parts and tried booting with each thing moved. It only finally booted when I removed my graphics card and plugged my monitor into the onboard DVI port.
After that I shut down, put my graphics card back in, booted with the monitor still plugged into the onboard DVI, and it booted without issue. I then plugged the monitor back into the graphics card DVI port and rebooted. Went back to the clickly flashy no-POST cycle. After repeating this whole process a few times, I realized that when it's in that cycle, if I just plug the monitor into the onboard DVI port, I get the POST beep and everything boots up.
Eventually I just did some messing around in the BIOS, turned SecureBoot off as well as disabled onboard graphics and then booted the PC back up with the monitor in the graphics card DVI port. It boots fine now, I've rebooted 5-6 times now and it goes into Windows 8.1 no problem.
I have had this problem with my hp Envy 6 ever since I got it. I installed windows 8 on it however when ever i would right click anywhere in my computer (the view/refresh menu would come however the new/view/sort one would not come) it no matter if it be with the trackpad or a mouse the blue circle would start spinning forever and i would be forced to close the folder i currently have:
Core i-5 1.7 Ghz 4.00 Gb RAM 64 bit Windows 8
(I am not all that sure whether or not i have windows 8 or 8.1 so i can't really say)
I have provided a recording that i have provided in the attachement below:
i bought a new laptop (HP Envy m6-1140sg) some weeks ago. I have Nortin Internet Security installed.
I wanted to try out that NIS Trial Reset because HP Laptops have NIS already installed. I rebooted my Laptop into safe mode with Network and then started it. I accidentally chose to Purge my NIS. I didn't know what purge means. . I opened the Trial Reset app again and chose to revert my trial to 60 days. Then it disappeared. I rebooted my laptop in Normal Mode and then tried to open NIS. But it didnt come up. I uninstalled NIS and then I noticed this:
When I try to open the Explorer on the desktop, the screen would just go blue and then Explorer closes itself. 2. When I right click a shortcut or anything the screen also goes blue. After the screen goes blue it would go normal again.
PS. I can only open Explorer when i open it through an other shortcut. ex. I got a shortcut to an directory (C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator XaerosoftAirbus X ExtendedDocumentation) That is the only way I can open Explorer, but as i said, the screen will go blue if I right click anything.
At present I cannot run any program installer except by right clicking and choosing 'Run as Administrator'.
This has happened twice recently and the cause is totally unknown to me. I have just recently re-installed everything afresh, and this morning I have got the same problem - I clicked on an installer and the following error message popped up:
Unable to execute file in temporary directory. Setup aborted. Error 5: Access is denied.
I installed programs called vaultClient by SourceGear, Mumble (a chat client) on my machine, needed to do a reboot. After rebooting, the Start interface show up with all the tiles and what have you, but clicking into Desktop rendered nothing, clicking any of the program tiles, nothing. Going into Apps and trying to open programs, nothing.....I can't do anything but look at the Start interface, but when clicking on my machineName icon to Sign out, that works.
App that works well with Windows 8.1, to make clickety sounds when you type on a regular keyboard? You know, so it will sound like a typewriter or something like that. Something that gives you a little audio feedback when you type, but doesn't have gimmicky, "funny" sounds.
I tried ClicKey, which is a good program because you can adjust the sound level, but it didn't work well for me. It stopped clicking after while.I also tried KSG, but it didn't work at all. I tried quertick, and it works fine, but you can't adjust the sound level.
today my PC was working totally fine until I decided to finally put risers on my motherboard (also known as standoffs).
I had to remove everything and put it back together. Everything is seated firmly as can be now though.
When I turn on my PC all of the fans spin and all seems well. No beeps, etc. however, I believe the hard drive is making some sort of click noise. I extensively pinpointed it to there.
I can't tell if the OS is booting up since I don't know how to produce a noise without seeing anything.
I took out the CMOS battery but no fix. I reseated all components, firmly pushed in cables.
I will try booting without HDD in about 10 minutes. I'm trying some things.
I tried 2 different monitors and dvi slots.
EDIT: Put everything back together and it works now. I .. don't know what went wrong. But it works now. A stressful day that was.
I have the touch keyboard toolbar enabled in Windows 8. I'm talking about this:
It used to work just fine a couple of days ago but as of yesterday or so it stopped working. I click the keyboard icon but nothing happens. This still happens after resetting.
I'm trying to extend my desktop screen on my TV. I have my laptop connected through an HDMI cable to the TV. When I choose extend desktop, nothing is shown on the TV. The TV is blank. Windows does detect the TV screen because both displays show up in the "Screen resolution" dialog. The TV also indicates that it has a signal.
The screen has been extended because when I move the mouse to edge of the screen, instead of stopping, it keeps going. When I drag a window, it does not stop at the edge but it keeps going. However, neither the mouse or the window is shown on the TV. Of course, I can move the mouse and window back to the laptop.
I have a Dell Inspiron laptop, Windows 8.1, Intel Core i3-4010u, 6GB RAM, Integrated Intel HD graphics. I have Sceptre X325BV-FMDR TV. Not sure if this is an issue with my TV or laptop.
