Multiple Taskbar On Same Screen Using Dual Screens
Sep 15, 2014
Some weeks ago, I noticed an odd problem with my taskbar.
While using my laptop at home, I use an exterior monitor to extend my desktop, and usually set the monitor as my primary. Occasionally, I would notice that my open apps would appear to be greyed-out (and therefore un-clickable) on my secondary screen. All the pinned apps would be full colour, but would only respond to clicking as if I was starting a new version of the app (e.g. a new browser window rather than switching to the existing one).
It appears as though a second "ghost" taskbar was over top the main one, and only on one screen. This ghost taskbar would block any attempt to click on the taskbar underneath. Unlocking the taskbar and moving it, for example, to the side, would confirm this as the ghost taskbar would drag and snap to the edge, leaving the normal taskbar at the bottom of the (same) screen.
The ghost taskbar would disappear (or perhaps merely move behind the main taskbar) if the taskbar is swapped with the primary screen (causing the tray to move over).
A reload of Windows Explorer via Task Manager seems to be a temporary fix, as is restarting the computer. However, this issue may appear multiple times per session, and within a short time of any reload/restart. This also does not seem to occur when using only the laptop screen.
I do not run any desktop customization software, and have triple-checked for any Windows, Microsoft, or driver updates. I am moderately competent in doing repairs to the computer so long as I have reasonably detailed instructions on how to do the fix.

I'm runnig windows 8 on my Sony labtop. The labtop is located in the kitchen. I connect the TV in the living room in ''dual screen mode'' to the labtop. When i'm listing to music on the labtop (windows media player), the 2 screens won't go to sleep even if I choose 1min to the sleep programing function. I found that there's two ways to choose the delay, in ''power saving'' mode and in control pannel. The thing is that the fix image on the labtop that is duplicate to the TV is actually breaking the TV (the images stay like phantom).
find a way to activate the ''fluid ligns animation'' on the TV afer one minute of inactivity on the labtop while listing to music.

I have a brand-new HDCP supporting monitor (native resolution 1920 x 1080,) on which I play the latest blu ray movies from the computers built-in blu ray drive, and a 9 year old flat screen non-HD plasma TV (on which I watch You Tube, BBC iPlayer and 4OD, streamed from the PC via a VGA cable,) both connected to my GT610 NVidia graphics card.
It seems I can only get them at the same resolution. My desktop does however have it's own on board graphics processor. Is it possible to run these two devices at different resolutions? (Since the ancient flat screen can only handle resolutions up to 1600 x 1200.)

I'm running 3 external monitors on a Lenovo docked laptop. With Windows 8 it was running perfectly. Since upgrading to from Windows 8 to 8.1, at the most inopportune times, randomly and frequently throughout the work day, everyday, all the monitors will cut out, making the disconnected sound. They will briefly, maybe half a second consolidate all the open windows on the laptop with an illuminated screen, then go black and then all the monitors will turn back on, consolidating all the open windows on the one external monitor set as my default main monitor. Then I will continue working, moving all my windows back to where I want them, and it will randomly do it again, usually when I'm concentrating on something important. It's like it knows!
The same thing has happened with an external projector, though not with all projectors.
I have updated Windows, and all the graphics drivers. And my business partner is having the exact same problem, so it's not isolated to my computer. Windows 8.

So I have been getting Blue screens on and off for a fair time now ( few months ) from once per week to multiple times per day. I have been trying to fix the problem for a fair while but I feel I am getting nowhere in which the frequency of the blue screens doesn't seem to change no matter.
Steps I have taken so far:
- cmd>sfc /scannow: This might have been a culprit to some blue screens. At first when run I would get "corrupt files found but not fixed". After spending some time trying to refresh windows 8.1 and failing (as I only had Windows 8 key), eventually I did a clean install of windows 8 (and still having the same message). I have since acquired a windows 8.1 key and used that to refresh windows, and now the message is from sfc when run is "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations".
- Windows memory test : So I ran this and had no errors.
- cmd>verifier: I have recently tried that with no crashes ( I think I set it up correctly and when I rebooted it booted normally to windows following steps here : [URL] ....).
- Moved graphics card slot: So I move my graphics card down one slot on my motherboard in case there was a dodgy connection, but this didn't work
I have attached the output from the SF Diagnostic tool and also an additional text file generated from WhoCrashed with some additional information.

I have two screens and my current settings are: I got my taskbar on both screens with the opened windows in it's own taskbar.
This is good, but I just miss one thing: I can't attach a program/shortcut to the taskbar that is not my main screen/taskbar.
So I have to go to my main screen to open a program from my taskbar.

I started using a second monitor recently, and ran into an issue when opening a folder. When I try to open any folder both screens will flash grey and then go back to normal, but the folder won't open. If I try again then the folder will open with no grey flash. If I switch back to just one screen, the same thing will happen, along with all of my icons being rearranged.

I am trying to extend the taskbar to my 2nd monitor on Windows 8.1
I tried to use the tutorial on this site but I don't have any of those options. This is what it looks like for me:
Is there any other way?
PS - If it makes a difference: Primary computer resolution: 3200 x 1800 2nd monitor: 1920 x 1200

Windows 8.1 menus - but here goes:- I'm trying to set up my multiple monitors in 8.1.
I would like to be able to have different programs pinned to each monitor, i.e. display 1's taskbar would have calculator, chrome, and utorrent pinned to it, and then display 2's taskbar would have download folder, wow, xbmc, etc pinned to it.
I cant seem to have individual programs pinned to each display - its either have all of the same pinned programs on both taskbar, or none on the extended taskbar.

After sorting out my problem installing multiple Hard Drives and getting past that I am now faced with another problem, which is that no screen is displayed on start-up to allow selecting other drives to boot from.
I can select other drives to boot from if I boot up into the default drive and select "Change PC Settings" but that is very slow and allows mistakes if one is tired.
I think the reason for the problem is because I installed all the drives on their own separately (took out the other drives) and they are now all installed properly except for this problem.
I only need to boot from the default drive when I need to do something with that particular drive or to boot from "Windows 7 Ultimate" I tried to fix the problem with Drive Freshen (I think its called) but that didn't work.
Is there a way to fix this problem and have the screen that offers to allow booting from another drive added to the default drive, without doing a total re-install?
On a multi boot system it is the first screen to display before booting the OS, and shows all the installed Drives in boxes with their names (labels) on, so that you can choose which Drive to boot from..

How do you change Windows 8 to startup with the list of users on the computer rather than the user who logged in last? I know you can hit the back button but it's just annoying adding unnecessary steps to logging in. How to change this?

Since Yesterday I've gotten the Window's 8 Blue screen saying the Error "MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE REQUESTS" now i got this multiple times yesterday, even got the "BAD_POOL_HEADER" Searched around and found out this was probably a Driver Error and updated my Drivers. Only my Video Card needed an update and after Installing the latest driver and restarting my Computer everything seemed fixed. But today i got the same IRP Error again.
I have an Busted up USB port and thought that maybe the Driver was confused about it and made the error so i Deactivated the specific driver to that Port, But after getting the same IRP error and restarted the comp again i got the "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" error at startup
Now my I comp started normally and I'm waiting for the next Error so I don't know what do to. I found out that there's some error Logs (C:/windows/minidump) but I don't know a program that'll make them readable.

Just reinstalled Windows 8.1 and can't figure out what the deal is. I have a four monitor setup, and all of this worked perfectly before I reinstalled. I actually remember dealing with this issue before, but I couldn't remember how I fixed it.
Basically, with two monitors, everything works perfectly. The minute I connect my third monitor, it's like all the screen flicker, and then I get logged out and back to the start screen.
I've tried updating nvidia drivers but it doesn't work.

Recently my laptop is giving me a problem. I was cleaning it up by uninstalling unused programs and deleting documents and files no longer needed. After doing all this and running CCleaner, I restarted by laptop. I noticed that it took an unusually long time to start up and log in. When it finally logged in, I was a at a blank purple screen... my Start screen. I was able to open the task manager and get to the desktop where my background is just black, but i have the taskbar. The taskbar only has the start button, which I cannot press, and the battery, internet, sound icons on the lower right.
I am unable to click any of these icons though. I cannot access the charms bar or anything Windows 8 Start menu related. No icons or programs are there for me to click, so the only way to access anything is by beginning a new task from the task manager. I tried to restore my laptop, but it did not fix the problem. So then I decided to do a factory reset (I saved all important files to a flash stick), but Windows 8 requires a media or installation disc, which I do not have because I downloaded the Windows 8 update. I do not think accidentally deleted any important files originally, because I was mainly just deleting from My Documents. How can I reset the laptop without the installation disc, or how can I obtain an installation disc without having to rebuy Windows 8?

The "Pin to Taskbar" function, though always available for programs, appears temperamental in regard to data files (txt, doc, pdf). At the moment I find that if I pin a file to Start, the "Pin to Taskbar" option will then appear if I right-click it on the Start Screen or All-Apps Screen (though it still won't appear in the Desktop environment). But I'm sure I've tried that before and it didn't work then.
At any rate, on one occasion (January 9th) I was able to pin two files to the Taskbar from the All-Apps Screen (after making them appear there by putting shortcuts to them in the Start Menu folder). And yet -- although those two files are still on my Taskbar -- that method fails to work now!

The icons on the taskbar at the bottom of my screen become distorted. They'll generate copies of themselves, overlap other icons, and the start menu button disappears. Whenever I try to click an icon, it opens the icon to its left, as if the mouse needs to be calibrated. When I open the start menu, every time I scroll my mouse across a shortcut, it disappears. Poof. Just like that. I scroll my mouse over the icons a few more times, and usually, they'll come back, but if I scroll again, they disappear once more. Thus, I'm not able to open any programs from the start menu. Additionally, my background (which I normally have cycling through a folder of wallpapers) goes completely black.
This happens without warning; sometimes I'm playing video games and it happens when I alt-tab, sometimes I'm browsing the internet and it happens randomly, once I was just looking at my screen without running any programs or tasks and it happened. It will fix itself anywhere from a span of 2 minutes to half an hour.

I built a computer recently. Since day one I get BSODs but the drivers, and Bug/Checks listed are never the same.I was thinking it couldn't be a single device or driver so I've:
Replaced the MOBO.
Repair Installed the OS.
Replaced the RAM.
It BSOD'd multiple times between each change.
The only things I've run are IE/FF and Ableton Live 9. Ableton is usually running during the BSOD but it was not the last time.

So, yesterday I installed Windows 8
UNNECESSARY DUAL-BOOT SCREEN
So, I installed after formating my SSD, which had Windows 7. There is also a 2 TB HDD for anything besides the system. Since almost everything is on that drive, I didn't format it. Anyway, Windows now thinks that there is a Windows 7 installation, even if there isn't. I don't know if it is because of that HDD or the "reserved by system partition". This happened once on W7, but only on the first boot. It must have updated the registry on something. Now, with Windows 8, every time the screen appears.
I've upload a picture from Disk Management, but since it's in portuguese : C is the Windows 8 drive; D is the HDD and E is the "reserved by system" partition.
EDIT: Changing the boot order in the BIOS for the DVD -> SSD -> HDD (before it strangely was DVD -> HDD -> SSD) now shows 3 options in the dual boot screen, including 2 Windows 8 installations.
NUM LOCK ALWAYS ON
My BIOS has set Num Lock to be always on and Windows 7 always had it on. But Windows 8 doesn't. I'm talking about the login screen. Is there any way to have it on even for that screen?

I have a Laptop with a 120GB Solid State Drive. My primary operating system has been Windows 7 Ultimate. Recently I decided to try and Install Windows 8 Pro Along side windows 7 . Dual Boot. I read about Dual Booting in this Official Windows 8 Magazine and it seemed easy. I ran into a few problems:
1. I was able to 'shrink Volume' to create another partition of atleast the 20GB minimum required for windows 8. I did 25GB's because my 120gb solid state drive was almost full with other windows 7 files and partitions. The problem I ran into was in creating a 'New Simple Volume' and formatting my new 25GB's of space. An Error message saying "not enough memory or space available to perform operation" kept popping up.
Am I getting these error messages because I already have 4 different partitions on my drive? The different partitions were A: Windows 7 OS and Files, B: Windows 7 Hibernation, C: Windows 7 Recovery and D: an unknown 8gb primary partition
2. I decided to delete the Windows 7 Recovery partition, because I have my Windows 7 DVD, and I didn't mind re-installing everything if I were to mess up. Plus my OS doesn't run from that partition, and I'll have room to create my new Windows 8 simple volume. (probably a dumb decision)
3. Disk management didn't want to delete my Recovery partition (probably for good reason) and merge it's free space with my 25GB' partition that I had previously created and was unable to create the New simple volume in. I had to use a 3rd party program called Paragon Partition Manager free edition to do this. I had to restart my laptop for Paragon to delete the 2GB recovery partiton and merge the space with my un-formatted 25GB partition. After the Paragon program finished, my laptop wouldn't boot windows 7 and just hung up with an Intel boot agent screen.
4. Luckily, I had already made my Windows 8 bootable flash drive to Install the OS. Since Windows 7 wasn't booting, I decided to go ahead and try to install windows 8 with my flash drive. It worked! I found my 27GB partition in the setup menu, was able to format it, and install Windows 8. Now windows 8 starts up! My other partition with windows 7 also shows up in Disk management and In my computer!.
5. My biggest question is, How can I make that Windows 8 Dual boot screen pop up when I turn on my laptop? I can boot into windows 7 if I go to Disk Management in Windows 8, Right click my windows 7 partition, and click "Make Active partition". I then hit restart, and my laptop boots to Windows 7 no problem. I Can boot into windows 8 by doing the same Thing in Disk Management in Windows 7. "Make Active Partition" and restart Pc. So in a sense, I have what I want; Windows 7 and Windows 8. But, I shouldn't have to go into Disk Management each time I want to change the system Im using. how to get the Windows 8 Dual Boot option at startup?

Strange problem I am having with my windows 8.
I have an ASUS laptop running 8.0 which I am running with a second screen (dell monitor) connected via VGA. I have it set so the external monitor is the primary screen and the laptop is the secondary screen. It is set for a taskbar on each display, with the primary taskbar containing the shortcuts on the monitor, so when I click them they open there. It's been working fine for months.
So I switched it on today and my taskbar shortcuts have jumped to the taskbar on the second (laptop) screen, however my external display is still set as the primary and still has my desktop icons, trashcan etc but a blank taskbar (like the one that used to be on the secondary display)! When I click the shortcuts which are now on the taskbar of the laptop screen they open on the monitor. (ie the wrong screen) I disconnected the monitor, turned off the extended desktop and set it to just use the laptop screen. All my desktop icons moved to the laptop screen but the taskbar shortcuts vanished and I was left with a blank taskbar. If I plug the monitor in again and extend the desktop they reappear, but on the wrong screen. Even if I reboot without the external screen connected I get no shortcuts until I plug in the monitor and set it to extend the desktop. I have checked all the taskbar settings and they are all correct.
