Can't Get Boot Menu BIOS Option On Asus X750j Laptop?
Jan 24, 2014My wife has a new Asus X750j Laptop.
I've spent the last day and a half setting it up.Now I want to make a system image of the C: drive using Paragon.
I do this from a bootable DVD, but it isn't set to boot to the DVD first in the boot order.
I've tried tapping the F11, F8, Del, Esc and F2 keys and it just boots into Windows 8.
My computer which has an ASUS motherboard, shows a message when I boot, saying select "Delete" to boot into the UEFI Bios.
But I can't seem to get either a boot menu of the bios option on the laptop.

Jul 26, 2014Just got my hands on a brand new ASUS K95VB notebook on behalf of a friend. I used a USB with Windows 8.1 on it in order to format the hard drive and install Windows. The hard drive is 3TB. I remember trying to install Windows using the UEFI option in the usb startup menu but that didnt work so I proceeded on the non-uefi option.
Now the problem is that only 2 TB are shown and the remaining 1 TB is shown only in device manager as not assigned...
If I understand correctly, the BIOS should be in UEFI mode and then the hard drive should be converted to GPT and then install Windows.
But, no option in BIOS for UEFI to be enabled whatsoever. What on earth should I do?

Jul 4, 2013Bought a new laptop with preinstalled Windows 8, didn't like it, went into laptop bios, think i deleted some drivers or commands to get me into windows 8 again. dont see any driver options, boot options priorities and cant add new ones
Think i deleted the default one, have nothing under boot options. Once I started the machine it goes right to the bios
the boot devise driver into windows i think is missing.

No UEFI Tile And No Option / Function Key For BIOS At Startup
Aug 6, 2013I am trying to boot from USB in order to start using Ubuntu but my problem is that when I go to the advanced settings - troubleshoot - there is no UEFI Firmware Settings, which, from what I have gathered is necessary to be able to boot Ubuntu from my USB flash drive. So far the solution that most people have is that there is no UEFI on that particular computer/type of windows 8, and on the startup screen to press f2, f11, esc, etc but there is no indicator as to what key is is on the ACER splash screen, similar to this. scn101.jpg
Therefor, I cannot get into BIOS?

BIOS Shows UEFI Boot Option But No Shell
Nov 27, 2012My bios shows uefi boot option but no uefi shell... I enabled uefi boot option and booted my dvd it asked me to partition my hd using a GPT format... I even did so so... but when I run

Can't Enable Boot Option In Laptop
Mar 1, 2014Samsung Laptop 365E5C-S05. Under Boot Option Priority, in the Setup Utility the Boot option #1 is Windows Boot Mangager (PO....1). It is disabled. How can I enable it? There is no box to check to enable it.

Sep 11, 2013I have a new Windows 8 laptop and have acquired Windows 8.1 RTM. The install, unlike the Windows 8 install, prompts me for a key. When I installed Windows 8, the installer simply picked up the key stored in the BIOS, as there was no prompt.
Now, however, in 8.1, there is a prompt, and of course I have no way of obtaining the actual key in the BIOS. Is there a way to either force it to pick the key somehow, or is the true way to read the encrypted key in the BIOS so as to enter that at the prompt?

Mar 6, 2014I bought a new laptop asus q500l now i want to make recovey dvds and after looking on the internet in asus forums it seems my laptop has a recovery partiton but no option to create recovery dvds my question now is lets say i have a windows 8 dvd oem will i be able to use that to reinstall my os or is there a way for me to make a recovery dvd reason for asking is i want to install ssd in the laptop but i dont wanna doit without some kinda back up for my factory setup note i do use r-drive image for backing up hard drive.

Dec 20, 2012I just received my new Dell Inspiron 15R-5520 64 bit laptop running Windows 8. It came with a new BIOS that supports both UEFI and Legacy. Compared to the BIOS on my old Dell Inspiron laptop it seems very insecure. I'm referring to access to the boot order. In my old BIOS I could set a password which was necessary for changing the boot order and either enabling or disabling devices within the boot list. Thus one could select the HDD and disable all other devices such as CD/DVD and Flashdrives. The new BIOS includes passwords as well, but they don't restrict access to the boot order and there doesn't seem to be any way to disable devices from the boot list. In the case that my laptop is stolen it's nice to prevent the thief from quickly booting off a CD or flashdrive and accessing all my files, etc. why the new BIOS removed this seemingly important security feature?

Download of the windows install needs the windows key. Cant get it as it's encrypted. Found generic windows 8.1 keys which worked but it said it was the wrong key for those installs. Generic windows 8 keys don't work for the download. Going around in circles and not sure what to do.

Aug 22, 2014I have just bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Before installing everything I wanted to partition the hard drive, for various reasons. To do so, I installed EASUS Pro. (Have used that many, many times on my W7 PC without a problem.) Anyway, it went away to resize the boot partition and now I can't do a !@#%$ing thing. The laptop boots to a 0xc0000225 error screen, and that's it. I entered the UEFI Firmware Settings, and managed to firstly change the fn keys to standard (YAY!) but I CANNOT use the F10 key to save the boot priority to CD/DVD or anything else, so I have nowhere to go from there.

Nov 16, 2013I have a samsung laptop. I turn it on and I can see the bios screen. After that, the screen just goes black and stays that way and doesn't boot. I am able to get into BIOS and I can see all bootable options. I am not able to get into recovery settings or the advanced boot menu.
I burned my Windows 8 iso to my flash drive and plugged it into the computer. I tried automatic repair with it and that didn't fix it. I tried doing a system restore, but it failed saying "System Restore failed while copying the registry from the restore point. The registry in the restore point was damaged and could not be restored." The computer was working during that restore point that. I will try another one though.
It appears that something is corrupt within Windows, but I'm not sure exactly what. I can issue the command in command line, since I can boot to my flash drive, but I'm not sure what files I need to fix or if I'm correct.

Oct 23, 2013The Troubleshoot icon that should be under the 'Advanced Startup' Option is missing. System is a new Dell Latitude 10 ST2 Tablet running Windows 8. Have access to 9 other identical tablets, all configured the same and they all have the Troubleshoot Option. Have tried multiple methods of getting to "Advanced Startup" display (including Safe mode, 'shutdown /r /o', etc.), but all result in only having the 'Continue', 'Use a Device', and 'Turn Off your PC' options - No Troubleshoot. Other than missing this icon, system is working fine. Shy of wiping the disk and starting over.

When I click the UEFI BIOS Firmware live tile via the change PC settings>update and recovery>recovery>etc. my computer reboots normally to Windows and will not open BIOS. I have tried accessing it using the delete and f2 keys, but this does nothing either.
I am up to date in terms of my BIOS, and am definitely running UEFI and not legacy.
Computer Sleep Option Gone
Nov 19, 2013I have had to do a complete reset of my computer recently and ever since I did that I have not had the option of putting my computer to sleep even after checking all my drivers to see if they are up to date. I am also having a problem where when I turn on my computer It will stay a black screen even though all signs point to it working just nothing shows on the screen. After a complete shutdown by holding the power button and turning it back on it works but doesn't let me get into BIOS.

Jul 30, 2014i have recently bought a new laptop, windows 8. Its a Lenovo Ideapad Y50.
At first i had a password and a pincode, i was able to switch between the 2 login options at the login screen, i always used the pincode, as it was faster. I forgot the password. And somehow the option to choose between the 2, is now gone. To conclude, i am unablebto login to my laptop, as i dont know the password and it is not allowing me to login through my pincode. The account is not a microsoft account, so i cant just go to there website and change my password. Nor do i have a password reset disk. I have tried all the passwords i know and have no clue what to do next.
Properties Option In Menus Not Work Normally?
Jan 17, 2014First of all I want to say that this is not much big of a deal to me but still annoying nonetheless. I noticed that in some scenarios, for some reason, the "Properties" option in the rightclick menu of a file doesn't do anything when clicked on. You'd expect that a properties box of the concerning file would show up but nothing is happening. So far I noticed this in the following 2 scenarios:
1. When selecting multiple files in the Recycle Bin at once and then right click and choose Properties. Selecting only one file in the recycle bin and clicking Properties does work normally.
2. When right clicking on a picture that is shown with Windows Photo Viewer and then choosing Properties.
Are these bugs that Microsoft developers might have missed or is my PC at fault here? I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro x64 with Medica Center.
Maintenance :: No Power Option In Windows 8
Jan 23, 2013I recently upgraded to Windows 8 (64-bit) and noticed I don't have power options available. I own an HP Pavilion DV7, usually when I leave the laptop to do something over night, I go into "Choose what closing the lid does" and I get the error saying my power plan info is not available. Whenever I try to create a powerplan it tells me the same thing, but when I hit next, it tells me it can't find the file specified. I have no power options at the moment. I tried resetting to defaults using cmd, rebooted, and the only power option I had (Razer Gamebooster) was gone, and had nothing after.
