Stuck In Option Windows 8 BIOS - Don't See Any Boot Lines
Jul 4, 2013Bought a new laptop with preinstalled Windows 8, didn't like it, went into laptop bios, think i deleted some drivers or commands to get me into windows 8 again. dont see any driver options, boot options priorities and cant add new ones
Think i deleted the default one, have nothing under boot options. Once I started the machine it goes right to the bios
the boot devise driver into windows i think is missing.

Can't Get Boot Menu BIOS Option On Asus X750j Laptop?
Jan 24, 2014My wife has a new Asus X750j Laptop.
I've spent the last day and a half setting it up.Now I want to make a system image of the C: drive using Paragon.
I do this from a bootable DVD, but it isn't set to boot to the DVD first in the boot order.
I've tried tapping the F11, F8, Del, Esc and F2 keys and it just boots into Windows 8.
My computer which has an ASUS motherboard, shows a message when I boot, saying select "Delete" to boot into the UEFI Bios.
But I can't seem to get either a boot menu of the bios option on the laptop.

Jan 3, 2014Paint Shop Pro 7 is installed on my Windows 8 computer yet when I open a picture it is not an option to open with it.
I prefer this, even though some of the options are newer and better because I know PSP7 inside and out and can maneuver and edit so much better than learning a new program. I don't really want to learn a new program. Why isn't it an option? How can I make it an option?

Jun 6, 2014I had a picture password, but it hid itself, since I got it wrong to many times. I do not have a pin password, regular password, password reset disc, and I cannot enter the bios. So my question is, how do I get to my picture password, without a the choice to enter my computer, since I forgot my password. Let me give the details. I go to my picture password, and get it wrong to many times, so it then closes the window and goes to the regular password screen, but there are no sign in options. But In the password settings it says the picture password is still there, so is the picture password hidden, deleted, or do you have to be in the password settings to get it back? I have forgotten my regular password, and do not have a pin password.

Dec 12, 2013I just built a desktop with a sabertooth x79 motherboard, and am running Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit. When I click the UEFI BIOS Firmware live tile via the change PC settings>update and recovery>recovery>etc. my computer reboots normally to Windows and will not open BIOS. I have tried accessing it using the delete and f2 keys, but this does nothing either.
I am up to date in terms of my BIOS, and am definitely running UEFI and not legacy.
ASUS K95VB Notebook - UEFI Option In BIOS
Jul 26, 2014Just got my hands on a brand new ASUS K95VB notebook on behalf of a friend. I used a USB with Windows 8.1 on it in order to format the hard drive and install Windows. The hard drive is 3TB. I remember trying to install Windows using the UEFI option in the usb startup menu but that didnt work so I proceeded on the non-uefi option.
Now the problem is that only 2 TB are shown and the remaining 1 TB is shown only in device manager as not assigned...
If I understand correctly, the BIOS should be in UEFI mode and then the hard drive should be converted to GPT and then install Windows.
But, no option in BIOS for UEFI to be enabled whatsoever. What on earth should I do?

Aug 6, 2013I am trying to boot from USB in order to start using Ubuntu but my problem is that when I go to the advanced settings - troubleshoot - there is no UEFI Firmware Settings, which, from what I have gathered is necessary to be able to boot Ubuntu from my USB flash drive. So far the solution that most people have is that there is no UEFI on that particular computer/type of windows 8, and on the startup screen to press f2, f11, esc, etc but there is no indicator as to what key is is on the ACER splash screen, similar to this. scn101.jpg
Therefor, I cannot get into BIOS?

Setup Installation :: Windows Boot Manager - Deleted UEFI Boot Option?
Mar 24, 2014After creating a UEFI bootable USB thumb drive with Rufus (using Windows 8.1 Enterprise ISO x64), for a Dell Optiplex 3010 (configured as UEFI only, no CSM, latest firmware version, Windows 8 installed), I didn't see a USB boot option, so I tried to add one manually. Unfortunately I erased the existing boot option (boot manager) by mistake. Although there were two boot options for PXE booting, the machine will not start anymore, even when there is an active WDS server on the network.
I also see Led's 2 and 3 lighting up, meaning according to the manual 'hardware ok but bios possibly damaged/corrupt'.
I understand I cannot start the machine from a bios boot disk because of GPT partitioning, and the UEFI USB boot disk I made might be corrupt (as it didn't show up as a boot option), however I don't understand why it won't boot from the PXE network card, as these boot options are still there.
ASUS K75DE Windows 8 And 7 Dual Boot - Boot Options Grayed Out In BIOS
Dec 15, 2013I just got a refurbished ASUS K75DE laptop, and it came with Windows 8 on it. I am wanting to run a dual boot with Win7, so I disabled fast-boot just fine, and went into the UEFI BIOS and disabled the secure boot.
While I was there, I did like I have always done and set a BIOS boot-up password. I then proceed to boot to my Win7 installer USB Flash drive, but I was running low on battery power so I aborted the install and shut the computer down to try again later.
Now however when I get into BIOS to select boot priority, all options are grayed out except for system time and a few other non-essentials. At the bottom of the first BIOS screen it says "User Level : User" and I can't seem to find a way to reverse this issue. So now I'm stuck, can't boot to anything but the HDD because it is first by default.
BIOS Boot Order Change - Windows 8.1 Does Not Boot?
Apr 27, 2014.I have an HP Pavilion Slimline PC desktop. It does not allow me to boot from CD/DVD drive or USB connection. Windows 8.1. I wish to be able to use the boot options cd/dvd and all the USB options. I can't use any of the options. I list bios setup options and suggestions given to me from articles but I'm not sure I'm afraid of error. I don't have that much experience in bios setup.
Articles have said in BIOS setup Security is to be disabled. I suppose Legacy remains disabled(?). It is suggested that I shutdown and reboot.
BIOS Setup > Storage > Boot Order has this list:
UEFI Boot Sources
Windows Boot Manager
USB Floppy/CD[code]....
At bottom of this Boot Order Window are the options: F5=disable Enter=drag F10=accept ESC=cancel
Windows Boot Manager at the the top stops all other options.beneath it. How does that 'drag' work. Don'tr I have to move 'Windows Boot Manager' to the bottom?
And move ATAPI CD/DVD drive to the top? of this UEFI boot sources list?
Is it true that if there is an error in the BIOS Boot Setup and Windows 8.1 does not boot, the BIOS Setup will come up instead so one can do a fix?

Jun 18, 2014Windows to go doesn't seem to have a Fast boot option -- Not a real issue since I use an SSD for this but just curious. I suppose if Windows to Go is being used on different computers and the idea is to use the external device totally then it obviously doesn't make sense to store a file on the Host PC's HDD.
Anyway two screenshots -- you can see the Windows to Go doesn't have a fast boot option. Ist screenshot is from Windows to Go -- both running Windows 8.1 enterprise update 1 x-64 on REAL (not Virtual) Machines.
Can't Boot Other Than BIOS?
Apr 10, 2014Last night before going to bed my laptop said it was going to update within a day. I closed the lid as usual and the next day, when I opened it, it was stuck on a blank screen for a few minutes then up came the Asus screen, then into Automatic Repair, then Diagnosing your PC, then "Repairing Disk Errors. This might take more than an hour to complete."
I let it run for about 4 hours but with no effect. I tried a few times to no avail. No matter what I do - F8, F10, F12 - I can't do anything other than get into Bios. I fiddled around with some options, but there weren't many and nothing worked. Finally, I removed the hard drive and attached it to another laptop with a caddy and couldn't get in - it is corrupted and unreadable.
So do I simply need a new hard drive? Or is it possible the problem is even worse? A friend says he has a tool that might be able to retrieve some of my files, but at least my most important ones are in Dropbox.
The other concern I have is that even when I install a new hard drive, I don't know how to get an operating system back up. The laptop didn't come with a disk. How do i go about installing an OS? Windows 7 would be preferable, although it did have 8 on it previously.
The laptop is Asus Ultrabook S400C. It doesn't have an internal cd drive.

Jan 15, 2013I've seen all the tips on setting up a dual boot while installing Win 8 with an existing win 7 installation but I can't find any way to add a boot option AFTER installing win 8.I have an image of win 7 that I want to put on another hard drive and then be able to dual boot either 8 or 7.
I tried using easybcd and it appeared to save the entry but it wasn't there when I booted up.
On a side note I also can't seem to change the timeout value before it boots. It always reverts to 30 seconds. I tried msconfig with the same results.
I do have an added boot menu for a recovery via Farstone recovery. It added it to the win 8 boot menu so it must be possible to add the win 7 somehow.

Apr 15, 2014I have installed windows xp pro on a separate partition on my hard drive , i am already running windows 8.1 on my c drive the problem is when i boot up i only get the option to boot into windows 8.1, windows xp does not appear in the boot menu, i installed windows xp on my spare partition to run some older programmes but when my pc boots up it boots straight into windows 8.1 there is no option to boot into windows xp.

This computer also has the 64 bit edition of Windows 8 installed on it. Windows 8 is driving me up the wall!!! I have had numerous problems with it since day 1.
As recently as a few days ago, my system was running reasonably okay. Then I downloaded a driver for my network card from the dell.com website. From that point on, I cannot get my computer to boot up properly. I have turned my computer off and on multiple times in hopes that it would correct whatever is wrong.
When I first turn my PC on, it will stay stuck at the Dell logo window for a while.
Sometimes it will make it past that and it will give me an error message that says:
"error sending end of post message to ME, system HALT!"
Also, I sometimes get a message which says:
"the last USB device you connected to the computer malfunctioned, and Windows did not recognize it.
Try reconnecting the device. If windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly."
This is insanity. I have NOT connected any new USB devices to my computer.
I do not know what to do. I figured that the easiest thing might be to try simply reinstalling Windows 8 from scratch. So I inserted my Windows 8 reinstall disk that Dell sent me when I bought this thing. However, my computer will not boot from this disk. So I guess I am stuck.

May 27, 2014I'm trying to boot from the bios into a Windows 8.1 Recovery USB. When it loads it just goes to a black screen with moveable mouse pointer and will sit like that endlessly. However when I boot with an Acronis USB for example everything comes up on screen fine.
Why this is happening or what it indicates?, all this is occurring outside of Windows so things like drivers shouldn't be affecting the display.

Dec 20, 2013When I turn the power on, my desktop PC (a Hewlett-Packard) goes into a BIOS startup routine that says "Preparing Automatic Repair" and then "Diagnosing Your PC" which has to finish before it will load Windows or any OS. I've seen it before, and usually it just takes a few seconds. But now it's stopping at the "Diagnosing" message and won't go any further. I turn it off and on, and it does the same thing again. I can get into the BIOS menus and choose other options like booting from another drive, recovery options, etc. but no matter what I choose it starts the BIOS over again and gets hung up on the "Diagnosing" step, so I can't boot ANYTHING.
Any way to bypass or break out of this BIOS startup loop so I can get to Windows?

Setup Installation :: Remove Ubuntu Boot Option From OS List
Feb 2, 2013I had ubuntu within my windows 7 earlier. Later when i installed windows 8, i formatted the partition ( E: ) in which ubuntu was installed, since the wubi uninstaller was not working. Still when i start my system, it shows ubuntu listed in the boot list. I tried to load it once. It gave an error. There is no error when i select the default windows 8.
Now i checked the boot option in the msconfig as per the thread, but only windows 8 is listed there, no ubuntu. But still it is listed in the boot menu. I tried the disk manager, the only partition without NTFS file system is the one with status "healthy (OEM partition)". I dont know whether its a ubuntu partition. And there is no option to delete it also. No other ubuntu partition. I want to remove the ubuntu boot option from my os list. How to do it?
